My husband thinks we should remove the door to our basement. Yay or nay?

The stairway is nicely finished, and he is working on insulating and finishing the entire basement. We are in NY so cold winters. He says once it's finished the heat in the basement will negate any cold air coming up the stairs. He also says that many homes purposely leave the basement door off as a design choice. From a design perspective do you like it or no?

Looking for shade tree ideas for sunny backyard, zone 6a

Our backyard gets too much sun. We already have a Catalpa that provides great shade, and we'd like to add another shade tree. Our yard has a downward slope which you can see in the side photo. The spot is about 15 feet from the back and side fences. So the ideal size would be about 20x20.

We'd like something with fall color and not a slow grower. Some options we're considering are First Flame Maple or a serviceberry.

How many weeks after surgery should I schedule a hair color appointment?

I am wondering how long is reasonable to wait before I can sit in a chair an hour and a half, and also sit back to have my hair washed. I have to schedule in advance or I won't get an appointment. I am having anterior LTHR.

I think this is the prettiest flower I've ever grown

Double click cosmos. It's breathtaking with the sun backlighting it. What a work of art!

I am having left THR. Does it matter which side of the bed I sleep on or is one side easier to get in and out of with an operated left leg?

Just want to make it easier on myself if possible.

How much should early picks influence the qb pick?

I would like to draft a mid-to-late round qb. Let's say in earlier rounds I draft one or more of CMC, Pickens, Mcconkey, Burden. Should that be the tie breaker in deciding to draft Purdy/Dak/Herbert/Williams? Those qbs are all going close together.

Need something tall for back of this bed, any suggestions?

It can't get too wide and shouldn't get more than maybe 8' max. I have a don egolf redbud on the other side.

My absolute favorite

Been buying all the raspberry bags, which I like better than the strawberry. I know the calories add up, but in my mind these are a healthier frozen option over ice cream.

Anyone else have hip arthroscopy and then hip replacement later on? What are the differences in recovery?

I had a labral tear & FAI repair done in December '25. So sometimes I think I know what recovery will be like, but then I'm afraid it could be different. I know everyone says arthroscopy takes a lot longer to recover from. But what about the first week? Is it worse after a THR than the scope because of the incision? Are some things more difficult? I want to be prepared.

Cat Quests lover seeking recs

For some reason I absolutely loved the Cat Quests, so I looked for similar games and ended up with Kataria Fables, which I thought was the most boring game ever. It doesn't have to be exactly the same or involve cats, although thats a bonus. I don't mind some combat like CQ but I guess I find the farming stuff boring.

Why is Swift going so high when he's in a 50/50 split? How is it any different from Warren/Dowdle?

I had Swift last year, and it was very clear he's 50/50 with Monongai. I understand Swift is a consistent 8-10 points a game. But why is his ADP so much higher than other 50/50 splits?

Thoughts on bronze fennel?

I am thinking of planting bronze fennel in the back center of this bed next year. (In place of the little fire chief, behind the lilac.) I feel like I need some height there, and I love the look of them. However I read about the caterpillars eating them, and I wonder if that just makes them look bad eventually?

Thriller type without gore, disturbing themes, animal suffering

I like thriller type exciting books but do not want the dark, disturbed, horror-ish stuff. And especially no animals dying, even of natural causes lol. Very hard to find, any recs?

A little unsure

I am 56F and I had hip arthroscopy 19 months ago. The surgeon said he saw grade 3 arthritis that the imaging did not show. He said it would made recovery much harder. True enough, my hip actually got worse over time. I saw a replacement surgeon and he said the decision is totally up to me. I didn't really like that answer! I know it's about my pain level and quality of life, but it's a hard decision to make since it's major surgery.

MRI shows mild progression of deterioration since the last surgery. But xrays do not show that arthritis is as bad as what the surgeon visualized. I went ahead and scheduled the THR for September.

I am just a bit uncertain. I can walk without much pain, but sleeping is difficult. After a few hours I keep waking up from the pain. So now I am on sleeping meds so I can get back to sleep. And sitting long is very painful, which makes long car trips impossible. The surgeon was clear that I have no options left except THR. Any advice?
