Any opinions on quality - going to do some baking and ten bucks a bag for King Arthur just ain’t hitting it.

I don’t want to be kicking myself later either though.

Aldi Süd in the US has always been a bastion for savings and helping families put quality food on their tables. Then, it began to evolve into something even better; we began seeing quality German foods enter the stores. And THAT is what the Americans love about Aldi.

Now that Atty McGrath is at the reigns you can see our Aldis slowly turning into depressing shitholes reminiscent of a bad neighborhood Walmart. Workers are overworked and unhappy. The produce quality is falling. The are replacing what's in the packages with low quality imposters. And the savings, albeit under a Trump administration, just aren't there anymore.

To continue putting on our table at home what Aldi provided in one stop has now evolved into us shopping at Walmart for some items and local butchers, and other sources for the quality meats we used to get at Aldi.

Thanks to McGrath I gave away my lucky Aldi shopping cart quarter. We'll not be back...

I’m a huge fan of Aldi but an hour ago I had a moment of disgust when a “service dog” was licking pizza and similar products on lower shelves and the dogs owner was just letting the dog do it.

Equally as disgusting was the fact that I reported it to an employee and nothing was done. Further to that I spoke to a manager who then disappeared and came back to tell me
they would check the footage and then take some action. I objected and said I saw it live and know what happened and impressed upon them that the most important thing is to get the product that a dog licked off the shelf. The manager then indicated that they would do so. I informed
him I’ll wait to see action taken. I walked over and showed him and he said they will take them in the back and sanitize them and then place them back on the shelf.

I love dogs but there is no time that I would want to consume food after it was licked by a dog.

Doing a sub search gives me the impression that, like many products, the fig newtons were well loved years ago, but have gotten worse recently. That is a mixed opinion, though, not universal.

So what say you? I've never had Aldi's version, so I can't say. I want her first fig newton experience to not be marred by some whack-ass version. Thanks for your help!

EDIT 2: I got both! The person in question liked the Name Brand better. Looking at them, the Name Brand was clearly more loaded with actual figs. Figs was the first ingredient, whereas it's pretty far down the aldi list.

2 people said they liked Aldi better. Me and one other person thought, flavor wise, they were close enough that I don't know if I could tell them apart. Both pretty dry.
