Period Poverty Kit - What do you think?
Hi everyone,
I am currently developing a minimum viable product (MVP) for a non-profit/community kit called Stitch n' Sew. The goal is to address both visible and invisible period poverty by providing an accessible, discreet, and reusable period care solution.
I've attached photos of the current prototype kit above. It currently includes:
- 2–3 reusable cloth pads (or materials/patterns to sew them)
- A discreet transport/storage pouch
- A simple pocket care and washing guide focused on low-resource settings
(NOTE: I do have prototypes images for these, but images aren't supported.)
Before taking this further, I want to make sure this is actually practical, dignified, and helpful for people who need it most. I would deeply appreciate any honest feedback or thoughts from this community on a few specific points:
- Is the storage pouch practical for keeping used pads hidden and contained while out in public or at school/work?
- Does a reusable option feel feasible if laundry access or private drying space is limited? What washing/drying constraints should I keep in mind?
- What essential info or tips would you want to see in a discreet care guide?
- Is there anything critical missing from this basic 3-part kit that would make or break its usefulness?
I would like to emphasise that the nature of this solution is small scale on purpose, to later be scaled up, rather than starting with this huge budget that I cannot promise. As someone who's both gone through period poverty and witnessed it firsthand before I could really understand what it was, I'd appreciate your feedback so much. Please be kind! I'm in highschool and honestly hosting this kind of thing is quite new to me.
Thank you so much for your time and insight. Please feel free to be completely specific. Your feedback will directly help improve the design.
