I am just beyond happy by the up-tick in my ability to read for longer periods of time. While recovering from burnout over the last year, this had been a challenge because I would end up falling asleep within 10 to 15 minutes. I couldn't make it through a book to metaphorically save my life.
Quick side note: I don't read from paper books in either form. The printing or preservation process has something that makes my stomach upset. So I read from my iPad.
Anyhoo. Continuous Scrolling is AMAZING! I'm not dyslexic, but I do have issues with reading line by line. Sometimes reading the same line 10 times until I finally put my finger down and start pointing.
I have access to two library systems, one uses CloudLibrary and the other uses Libby. CloudLibrary has this within the app...Libby does not, unless you have it sent to the Kindle app which does.
Thought I'd share. Back to my book.
Ok, so preface with a short story. We are going through a post water damage kitchen repair. It's a nightmare. My partner and I are surviving OK...hanging on my the tips of our fingernails. But with an open walls of the kitchen in the warm climate that I live, out popped a cockroach. The drain was not capped and the tape that we used failed. A day or two later, another one does a jig at my partner's feet. In this time, I am on the other side of our small condo and I hear them yell "HELP!" and then I rush to attend to them, tells me what is going on, and I swoop up the crunchy critter to show it to the bin (with a squish along the way).
It has stuck with me ever since. Like, my short term memory is struggling, but that really hung on. They yelled "HELP!" They yelled "HELP!" without much or any hesitation. And they yelled it in a way for an immediate response, and got it.
I am incredibly jealous of that skill because I can't ask for help in the calmest of situations, and I lose access to word usage and structure when I am in panic mode. I can't ask for help! I've always felt as if others in my life see my needs as though they can be treated so lackadaisically.
Example, I got hurt as a kid (7yo) while playing. Really bad. Later, one of my parents just told me to stop crying and to eat my dinner. hours upon hours later, I'm still crying. Same parent takes me to the ER. Arm is broken in 2 places. Get back home and I am told to eat a bowl of cereal and then head to bed....without even acknowledging what went down.
So, it's been erased from my vocabulary. I don't even ask for training when starting a new job or project at work because I'll just end up figuring it out anyway.
What a sarcastically lovely feeling.
…of some kind.
I am having an INCREDIBLY stressful time in my life, having to maintain normal daily life with my husband and my cat…housework…being adults.
But also we are initiating some life changes that are going horribly. Like, we have a flood in our condo from our upstairs neighbors…but we’re trying to put it up on the market to sell.
I have not cried yet.
I have not yelled yet.
I have not melted down yet.
I haaaaave gotten snippy.
I tapped out of work after all of my stuff for the day was taken care of to remove one thing from my mind.
I want a medal. I want a few medals.
Only somewhat kidding, but do you have an easy reward system that you do that shows the good days or good things achieved in hard times? I think having a visual will be a good way to keep me in check that I can do hard things or have hard times and make it through ok.
Live in a condo community in the south end of town nearing the Cathedral City line. Every day of the week, I have my slider and at least one bedroom window open on the morning. Fresh air and all.
But Sundays…I smell an electrical smell. I don’t know how else to explain it.
Is there something else known that goes on that I just haven’t learned yet? I need to get this checked off of my curiosity list.
