What are the risks of entering direct deposit details in CRA MyAccount?

I've always relied on paper cheques, and I'm now thinking of setting up direct deposit.

I'm just wondering are there any risks to this?

I've sometimes come across horror stories on the web where someone suddenly found out that they owed a huge amount in tax (by missing some information, letters, or some obscure error that never got corrected) and then they lost a huge amount of money in one day.

That's my worry with setting up direct deposit. That some error might happen and the CRA will deduct money from my account since its now linked to them.

To make things more tense, I've been targetted by a scammer before who claimed that they were a collections agency and they actually checked my credit (I saw it on my credit report). I don't know for sure if it was a scammer or some legit agency but they looked very shady.

Or.......does entering your deposit info make no difference at all because the CRA already knows where you cash their usual cheques?

Can such a thing happen?

Is it creepy to cite someone's full name after looking them up on the internet/social media?

I'm in a weird situation. I had to get a certain document signed by someone (a formal acquaintance, not a person friend), but I later realized that they wrote their name in a weird, untidy manner. They signed it, and then wrote their name underneath. The last name was what's untidy.

So now I'm scared that if i send this, the authority reading it won't be able to recognize the spelling, so they won't be able to process the document.

So what I did was, I went on google and entered the first name of that person and their organization, and it gave me their linkedin (which showed their full name).

So I'm now attaching an additional piece of paper to this form and explaining "If you are unable to properly read the name on the signed form, I was able to find them on Linkedin and here's their full name". Just as a precautionary step. Because if it turns out that they can't even read the name, they might not be able to type it out in their system when processing it.

Is this a creepy thing to do? It feels like I'm going over some boundary. Even though its all public information. But I feel like the person who signed it might be thinking "How dare you look me up on Linkedin and copy my name from there"? Or am I overthinking?

I can't get them to sign a new form because getting this form itself is a horrendous task. Plus it took a lot of difficulty to even set up that event where they signed it.

Can I add extra text to my CRA lost-cheque form?

I was supposesd to get a CRA cheque in the mail, but it never came. So I asked CRA for a lost-cheque replacement form.

The form requires me to sign, as well as a non-family member witness.

I got someone to sign it, but they have written their name and the date in a very illegible way. I'm scared they might now say "we can't read the name properly so we can't process the form".

So I was wondering is it ok for me to add extra text (by pen) at the bottom of the form (below the bottom margin that designates the signing area) and just write out the name of the person who signed? And the date?

Will this cause additional problems? Or is it ok? I am not going to touch the area where that witness signed or wrote their name. I'll leave that as it is.

Can't fill census form because nobody in my house is cooperating

I live in a shared house. I got the census mail earlier last month. When I tried filling it online, I got a notification that the number in the letter (which you're supposed to enter on the website to access the form) was already used, so I assumed someone else filled it out.

I then got a "final census warning" letter in the mail to fill it out. When I entered that number, it opened a form and asked me how many people live in the house and asked me to enter their full names and personal details.

Nobody in my house is cooperating. They said "Forget about it" even after asking them multiple times. They are stubborn about it. And I don't know their full names (I rarely see them).

What do I do now? Do I just say 1 person lives in the house and put my own name?

Haven't gotten CRA refund yet. Can't complete the "uncashed CRA cheque form" either.

I got the email early in May of my notice of assessment and that I am entitled to a refund. I still haven't gotten my cheque in the mail.

When I asked them what I can do, they told me they can send me a form to sign to request a duplicate cheque.

The form requires a witness signature (non-family member). I can't fill that out either because I have no friends (not kidding). I also work from home.

Why are they so hellbent on punishing people like this? Can't I just go to a CRA office in person and explain the situation?

I AM NOT paying $80 for a notary to sign that letter. Yes I know I should have set up direct deposit in my CRA account, but I didn't.

I didn't get the CRA cheque in the mail, but they had no problem sending me multiple mail warnings to complete my 2026 census.

Why do they have to cut the grass so often?

I live in the suburbs and in the summer time, there is NEVER any silence here. There's always some stupid gas powered contraption running (either a leaf blower, lawnmower, wheedwhacker, saw, pressure washer).

WHAT WILL HAPPEN..........if you don't cut the grass? Are you afraid the dinosaurs will come back and we will return to the stone ages? Why does it need an army buzzcut all the time. Why can't you just mow it once a month?

Why is it never quiet in any neighborhood here?

Seriously there is never a quiet time period of more than 2 hours in any neighborhood. Especially in the lusher areas (South Vancouver, Surrey, etc.).

There is ALWAYS some motorized contraption running loud. I get the lawnmowing is a thing, but it never just ends there. There's always a branch to saw off, always some leaves to clean up, always some extra grass to trim so that it looks perfectly symmetric.

None of these things are necessary, but why do people have to use some noisy contraption? How hard is it to saw off a tiny branch with just a regular saw and some muscle power? Or even use a RAKE instead of a loud leaf blower?

Its like people are trying their very best to move as little as possible.

I came to Canada 7 years ago, and had opened a bank account with a foreign bank here (that has branches in Canada).

I stopped using that account in 2022. And it has $0 in it.

I recently got an email from them saying that I have to send them my Tax Identification Number (TIN) because of some new rules they've gotten. And if I don't send it to them, they will freeze my account and report me to the CRA for non-compliance.

I can't understand why they are asking me NOW for it. I do not run a business and have not used that account for any business related activities. Plus I haven't used it since 2022.

I'm not comfortable sending my SIN by post to them (they told me that mailing them by post is the only way to give my tax id number). They don't even have the option to send it to the electronically.

Can I just ignore this? Is it a big deal? I don't use that account, so they can freeze it. I've already filed my taxes for this year.

Whether its gardening, cleaning walls, trimming grass or even BLOWING LEAVES FROM THE F*CKING GROUND. Every activity has become as noisy as possible and there's always some cockwomble in every neighborhood that's doing something.

My neighbor was using a gas powered pressure washer to wash his railings. Motherf*cker have you ever tried wetting a cloth with soap water and rubbing the thing? Or use a brush.

And what the f*ck happened to leaf rakes? I can't even remember that last time I saw one. Now everyone use a stupidly owerpowered gas powered blower machine because they don't want to bend down even one inch and do anything resembling exerice.
