Exploring the Philosophy of Suffering & Death in Dark Fantasy

Hello everyone, I’m working on a project and want to discuss the core philosophical frameworks of three of my characters. I’m honestly looking for thoughts or any critiques regarding the philosophical themes these characters represent.

The story centers around three opposing responses to the inevitability of death and the value of human suffering:

Theme 1: Existential Nihilism

  • The Concept**:** He possesses ultimate power, but his morality and drive to live are tied to a single anchor (his sister). In lamer terms, I could describe him as selfish spider man. He finds joy in helping people but if he had to choose the people of NY or his aunt, Gwen Stacy or anyone he loves, he'd always choose the people he loves. When that anchor breaks, his heroism erodes, and he collapses into Existential Nihilism.
  • The Question: His story asks: If personal power cannot prevent suffering of the people he genuinely cares about is the effort to protect others worth it? His eventual fate results in committing suicide, accepting this question and finding the friction of life to be meaningless.

Theme 2: Active Nihilism

  • The Concept: Character 2 represents the urge to force meaning onto something that doesn't have meaning. Finding random death ("ugly accidents") unsatisfying and unpleasant, he develops a dark god complex where he "curates" deaths to give them narrative form. For example, he slaughters the parents of a child, deliberately leaving the child alive to see if the child would succumb to existential nihilism as well or try to avenge his fallen parents only to fail inevitably.
  • The Question: If life itself has no meaning, then can he give death meaning by curating death? His crisis occurs when unscripted acts (like Character 1's suicide) expose his view points as a coping mechanism to the absurdity of the universe and death in general.

Theme 3: Heroic Absurdism

  • The Concept: Character 3 begins as a rationalized coward, using the concept of an afterlife to justify apathy ("if death leads to paradise, why bother fighting to live?"). However, as the story develops his mindset slowly shifts to Heroic Absurdism: he realizes that the sweetness of the afterlife is present in the bitterness of life.
  • The Question: His arc asks the simple question: Would you rather have a glorious end but a life not worth living, or live a defiant life but miss an end worth dying for? When he fights, he rejects artistic "poetic duels" in favor of primal, ugly survival - proving that existing through the mess is the point itself, and that's what inevitably makes the cold of embrace of death slightly warmer because death is a sign that you've endured enough and you can finally live a peaceful afterlife.

What I wanna know

  1. How do these three perspectives clash theoretically?
  2. Are there specific philosophical texts, authors, or dark fantasy works that explore this exact friction between curated fate vs. raw absurd survival?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these underlying themes!

Revision Timetable

So basically im gonna be done with my entire mdcat syllabus by 22th July. This is my plan for chem, bio and phy revision:

22 - Atomic Structure + Chemical Bonding ; Coordination + Evolution + Work and Energy
23 - Revise entire Organic Chem + Test for both Bio and Phy (I've finished their syllabus before and did a few of their topics as well)
24 - Chem equilbrium + reaction kinetics ; Inheritance + Digestion ; Fluid Dynamics
25 - Respiration + Revision of previous topics (bio syllabus revised again yay) ; Test of topics i did previously ; Waves + Electronics
26 - Electrochem + thermochem + gases ; FLP'S and revision ; Thermo + nuclear + electronics
27 - Stichometry + Solids + liq ; FLP's ; Electrostatistics + current + AC
28 - S and P Block + Transition metals + Industrial Chem ; FLP's and rev ; Electromagnetism + Electromagnetic induction + dawn of modern physics
29 - 30 is revision and tests

from 31, my mocks are gonna be happening so im defiently gonna be doing those. I lowk gotta no life for these 2 weeks cause im screeeeeeewed if i dont.

My mocks are gonna be continuing from 31 to 14th aug, so im gonna be practicing and revising weak concepts during that time.

Basically, the point of this post is, first is there any amendments i should be making to this timetable? I'm hoping to cover the high yielding topics first before actually covering the minor topics, so any advice would be great!
