Patrick Brontë: Irish Father to English Genius

Patrick Brontë: Irish Father to English Genius

I have put together quite an extended piece on Patrick Brontë as there is not much accessible literature available on him. Hopefully this may be of interest to some of you and it contains a number of interesting tidbits about the girls upbringing. I understand this thread is dedicated to the works of his far more famous daughters, so please feel free to remove if not considered relevant.

Behind the Walls of Cork City Gaol

A piece I’ve put together about the history of the Cork City Gaol. It’s a great attraction and I’ve made an effort not to spoil or take away from what you’ll learn on a tour of the place. We should all support it if we can. Hopefully some of you may find the article of interest.

River Lee to be drained for Luas

Thank you, Echo. Another balanced and reasonable article. Thank you for always adding substantively to a debate. (I post this ironically, if you can’t tell 😉)

More Luas Moaning

Don’t worry folks, Virgin Media have only gone and decided to cover the Cork Luas. I’m sure it’s definitely balanced coverage and not just more whinging and moaning disguised as journalism 😉

The best part is where she opens the broadcast by stating that Bishopstown GAA will be “losing part of its critical infrastructure.” As a resident back down here on earth, I know she is referring to the unused space between two pitches. I wonder how many other people know that 🤔.

And so it begins

Cyclist was pushed directly into oncoming traffic as they noticed this. During the entire year or so that the public realm works were going on in this area, it was not possible to do this, and yet the business carried on. Now that they’re finished, liberties are quick to be taken 😉

Latest MacCurtain Street Parking Trends

The latest trend on MacCurtain street is no longer just to park up on the footpath, it’s to stop completely in the middle of the road and just throw on the hazards. The vehicle I photographed here was one of three doing the same thing at different parts of the street. This particular one almost smashed into a cyclist as he got out of the van (cyclist had to swerve last minute into traffic… luckily there was no one in the opposite lane). A full coach bus had to manoeuvre into oncoming traffic to pass. Worst of all, a Garda car cruised on past and made no attempt at enforcing the rules of the road. And yes, the red car behind is doing exactly the same thing, except they don’t have the excuse of being a goods vehicle, they were just ordinary people seemingly waiting for someone. What a mess. Planters pushed back all over the street for cars to lamp themselves up onto the footpath.
