Men who have ended a healthy long-term relationship: how long did it take you to truly move on, and did you still miss your ex even if the breakup ended on good terms?

I’m specifically looking for answers from men who have personally gone through this, or from people who have experienced something very similar.

For context, my ex and I broke up (he broke up with me) after a relationship that lasted 4.5 years. He’s 29, and I’m 25. The breakup wasn’t because of cheating, abuse, or a toxic relationship. It ended on good terms (he broke up with me because he felt like I wasn’t growing and was one spot in life and he wanted to see me grow.) We have been broken up for 1.5 months now and been in NC for exactly a month.

My questions are:
- Did you still miss your ex after the breakup? If so, for how long?
- At what point did you genuinely feel like you had moved on?
-Did your feelings change over time, or did you know right away it was over?

I’m not looking for assumptions about my situation or generic advice like:
“Move on.”
“He’s already with someone else.”
“They never come back.”
“Stop waiting for him.”

Please only answer the questions based on your own experience. If your comment is just going to be negative, judgmental, or unrelated to what I’m asking, I’ll remove it and you will get blocked and reported. I want this thread to stay focused on the question I’m actually asking. I know people on this subreddit can be mean and nasty as hell.

So, thank you in advance to anyone willing to share their honest experience!!

Dumpers who ended a healthy relationship—did you ever regret it?

I’m curious to hear from people who were the one to end a relationship that wasn’t toxic, abusive, or filled with constant fighting.

Maybe you still loved your partner, but you realized your values didn’t align, the timing wasn’t right, you wanted different futures, or something just didn’t feel right long-term.

Looking back, did you ever regret your decision? If so:

What made you realize you regretted it?
Did you ever reach out or try to reconcile?
How did you cope?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who ended things with someone they genuinely cared about, not because of cheating, abuse, or obvious incompatibility, but because they believed it was the right decision at the time.
If this doesn’t apply to you, you don’t have to leave negative comments.

this is your sign to NOT break no contact! (or at least so soon)

if you’re reading this and is planning to reach out to an ex partner, please read before deciding what’s best for you. (this is all from my own experience)

my ex and i broke up officially a month ago (he broke up with me bc he didn’t see any growth from my end) he had actually wanted to break up a month before that but i kept fighting for him and not taking no as an answer.

everytime he told me to respect his decision, i was in denial and i would show up to his house, call or text him a handful of times which pushed him away even further. he did not like that at all yet i never gave him space.

the first two times i tried to go no contact, it would last a good three days bc i would text or call him for some dumb reason (for example, i asked him if i could come to his basketball game to support and also give a letter. he was kind enough to say yes) the second time i tried no contact also lasted three days before i showed up in front of his door step. the following time the no contact lasted a bit longer (6 days) until ONCE again i showed up to his house and he was very upset at this. he told me im not respecting his boundary (which now thinking back about it hes 100% right) he also said when i was giving him space, he was starting to have hope for us again until i broke no contact.

breaking contact after a few days or a week is extremely short (yet during that time i thought it was reasonable) funny enough. i was actually on this subreddit and doing my research to see if i should reach out after a week. what were the answers? it was a “do not do it” yet i did it anyway and nothing came good of that. i just pushed him away further when at one point he was starting to have hope and i pretty much blew it.

no contact is meant to give you and that person space to process and be better people. whether if they ever reconcile again or not. work on yourself for you. if they ever do come around that’s great. if they don’t, you’d still be a better version of yourself.

my advice for you is do not break contact after such a short amount of time. and if you do decide to do it anyway, ask yourself why and is it worth it. do you see actually good outcome from that? did you guys end on good terms for reconciliation to possibly work out.

please don’t be like me and keep showing up after they’ve asked for space. i regret it so much and i wouldn’t want anyone to go through it. you’re just hurting them and yourself even more!

Tell Me About Your Successful Reconciliation With an Ex-Partner and How It Went!

i want to hear specifically from people who successfully reconciled with an ex-partner.

how long were you apart? who reached out first? what caused the breakup? what changes had to be made for the relationship to work the second time around? did you both improve communication, rebuild trust, go to therapy, set better boundaries, or simply need time apart to grow?

please share how the reconciliation happened, what made it successful, and how the relationship is going now!

this post is NOT asking for opinions like “move on,” “they never come back,” or “getting back with an ex never works.” i already know that reconciliation does not work for everyone. i am asking about successful experiences specifically.

if you have not had a successful reconciliation and have nothing relevant to add, please do not comment, bc i will either delete it and wont care for it lol. i am looking for real experiences that directly answer the question, not pessimistic one-liners or unrelated advice. 🤷🏽‍♀️ bc i know some ppl in this subreddit can be hella pessimistic lol

Asked the universe for two specific things and was delivered. Thoughts?

I’ve been getting into/ practicing spirituality recently after going through something extremely significant in my life and I wanted to share something that honestly caught me off guard.

On Friday while I was driving home, I said out loud:
“Dear universe, please let me see a green car if what I’m hoping for is meant to happen.” (I don’t want to say the exact thing I’m wishing for as it is personal)

I kept driving but didn’t see a single green car during the entire drive. When I was literally about two minutes from home, I was like “Well, I guess it’s not happening. I’m basically home already.” Right after I thought that, a green car drove right past me. What made it so strange is that I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen or noticed a green car. They’re incredibly uncommon where I live or just in general I guess.

The next day, I wanted to test it again. This time I asked for a purple car instead sometime this week because I feel like they’re even rarer and I can confidently say I’ve never seen a purple car in my life. But… nothing all day. Then today, right before getting off a freeway, a purple car drove right past me and like I said I’ve honestly never seen purple cars before either, which is why this feels so surreal to me.

I’m not trying to convince anyone that this proves anything. I know everyone has different beliefs. But these two experiences happened back-to-back after asking for very specific signs, and it made me wonder if anyone else has experienced something similar after asking the universe for a sign.

I’d love to hear your thoughts or similar stories!!

Any successful reconciliation stories after a breakup and no contact?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to hear from people who have successfully reconciled with an ex after a breakup or divorce especially after a long-term relationship, no contact, and real personal growth.

Please be gentle with me in the comments. I already understand that the future is uncertain, and I’m not looking for reminders like “it’s not guaranteed,” “that doesn’t mean he wants to get back,” or anything that shuts down hope. I’m trying to hold onto hope in a healthy way while also respecting the breakup, giving him space, and focusing on myself.

For context, my ex and I broke up after a 4.5-year relationship. The main reason was that he felt like there wasn’t enough growth on my end when it came to lifestyle, career, consistency, and overall direction. May and June were very emotional and messy because I kept breaking no contact, asking for reassurance, and trying to get answers from him. Looking back, I can see that it made him more guarded and overwhelmed.

The breakup became fully official on July 1. Since then, I’m trying to genuinely respect no contact and stop emotionally chasing him.

Even though we are broken up, he has said he still loves me, he is not dating or open to dating anyone, he is not opposed to getting back together, he sees a possibility in the future, he is “leaving the door open,” and he told me to trust the universe and time. Our families are also very close, his mom supports me, he still has my location, and he still pays for my gym membership so I guess theres still some indirect connection.

I’m using this time to grow for myself, not just for the relationship. I’m focusing on the gym, work, emotional control, consistency, and becoming more secure. I know that if reconciliation ever happens, it cannot come from me begging, chasing, or forcing it. It has to come from real change, space, and both people choosing each other again naturally.

I've been a wreck this whole month and it got even worst after the official break up and Ive been crying nonstop.

I would really appreciate hearing from people who have been through something similar and ended up reconciling.

  1. How did no contact work for you?

  2. How long did it take before you or your ex reached out?

  3. What changed during the time apart?

  4. What helped rebuild attraction, trust, or emotional safety?

  5. What advice would you give to someone who still has hope but wants to handle it in a healthy, mature way?

I’m not looking to be told to give up. I’m looking for honest but hopeful stories, advice, and perspective from people who have actually been through reconciliation after a breakup.

Thank you all in advance!
