19F, oldest child, living with my parents and two younger siblings who are teenagers. I’ve had a nice childhood where all my materialistic needs were met and so were my siblings’. However, my emotional needs have been neglected for the longest time. I’m not really sure if my siblings feel the same too or not.
Now here’s the thing. My dad is mostly out of town for work and being the eldest child i feel its my responsibility to make the house a place where everyone feels included and heard. My youngest sibling has got the least amount of quality time spent with my dad, so i took upon me to make him feel heard and included and loved. Same with my sister too. BUT I’VE NEVER GOTTEN THE SAME IN RETURN. My little siblings ALWAYS mock me, make fun of me, call me names, never respect me and at times use slur words too. Obviously to retaliate, I’d do the same and that has strained our relationship ALOT and we’re js 19, 16 and 13 y/os, dk what will happen when we are older.
About my parents? My mom is mostly a mere spectato. Only 20 times out of 100, would she take stand for me. My dad is the same too. They’d just ignore all this. And this has made my self confidence and respect for my family just go down hill.
Its not like I never raised my voice against this. But everytime I did, after a little back and forth, the discussion ends like it wasnt important enough.
My parents don’t take me seriously. I love to have fun and enjoy life unlike my siblings who are addicted to playing games and are always “serious and laid back”. If my parents got a chance, they might even create statues of my siblings to keep in our house.
Additionally, I decided to choose a less conventional career path/degree bc I liked it wheareas my sister proceeds to get 99 percentile in JEE Mains this year. I’m very happy for her. What bothers me is how now my parents are giving are so much attention that they almost don’t care if I’m sitting right beside or not.
Similarly, everyone decided to go for dinner last night. I am interning rn, I had work to do but js bc my dad is in town and we’ll spend some quality time w him, I decided to compromise on work. GUESS WHAT?? We didnt go bc MY BROTHER said NO.
WHY TF DOES HIS OPINION MATTER WHEN EVERYONE IS READY TO GO FOR DINNER??
I love my family and I pray that things get better bw us but this constant bullying has made my mental health really bad BC YOUR HOUSE IS SUPPOSED TO BE YOUR SAFE HAVEN.
Today, my little sister was bullying me right infront of my father to which he just laughed and said “Tum samajdaar jaldi nahi bangaye toh ino (little sister) bade behen banjaate”
I feel miserable right now.
