Could my bobbin *be* any fuller?

Could my bobbin *be* any fuller?

I'm still working on the plying of my TdF singles. I had three full bobbins with one week each, 20g a day so 140g singles per bobbin. That was pushing it but at least they stayed within the "lines", they're advertised as holding 130g. And then I forgot that I had only one free bobbin for me plying 🤣 So this is 140g in 3ply and it shouldn't have been a gram more but it fits 😄

Please prove my IT husband wrong

So we're on holiday and I feel like there are AI generated pictures and posters EVERYWHERE. However, my "trust me I work in IT" husband keeps telling me that it's really not that bad and I'm seeing things that aren't there. The most recent example is in this kids park we're visiting. I said something along the lines of "at least that AI farmer has five fingers" and now husband is annoyed that I keep pointing out things that I think are AI (because of the style and the font for example). I'm going to stop because it obviously bugs him but maybe you can settle this for me: is this just unimaginative design or is it an example of the way AI makes everything look the same?

I lost 35lbs and somehow got "larger" boobs

I got fitted about 18 months ago after finally realising that trying to fit my breasts in just any available bra didn't work. I grew up in poverty and this was a really really huge step for me. I went in with 105F(which is basically the largest size that any affordable shop stocked) and walked out in 90J. It felt like a WORLD of difference, I'm sure many in this sub can relate. Fast forward to present time. I've switched jobs a year ago and went from a job with very irregular hours in my hometown to a very regular job 15km from home. I bike to work, sleep better, have more time for myself so less stress... you get it, I lost weight. Bra's on the smallest hook did nothing to help with my backpain so back to the bra store.

I ended up with 85L, FFS 🤯. So a smaller band but relatively larger boobs. Why in the world would that happen?

I know it's better to wear the right size and I immediately noticed a huge decrease in back pain, but if even losing this much weight doesn't help with my breast size (relative to my body size) I'm seriously considering surgery.

To end on a positive note, the lovely seller had my favorite bra in my new size and I found a couple of beautiful new bra's and a very supportive sportsbra. So at least while I consider surgery, my ladies are supported and wrapped in bright colors.

First nine days, for today we rest.

I'm very happy so far 😊

Fiber is 80% shetland wool and 20% tussah silk, spun from the fold, on my Ashford traditional. Exactly seven days fit snugly on one sliding hook bobbin so by day 21 I'll have my 3 bobbins (plus one for plying) nice and filled.

WIP Wednesday: I finally feel crafty again!

I finished a large DP a couple of weeks ago and immediately started the next one. Then I got distracted. I'm probably not the only one that happened to. But lately, I feel like I'm back at crafting so I told myself to just do one small square and see where it goes. The spark of joy is back! I'm doing a couple of crafts at the same time but I'm happy to just create again :)

Day 4

I'm really starting to see what this will be! I'm going from light to dark and back (or at least: that was the idea but I messed up on the first pick and I'm going to ignore that 🤣) and I will be weaving this with a handspun natural grey BFL or I'll knit an blanket/scarf it with some handspun white Texeler and switch every other row. I'm so looking forward to the end result! I've been in a spinning rud for a while and I feel like I'm back!!

Mellow has a hay poke :(

We're all set to go to the vet in an hour and I think I caught it early (very sure she was fine yesterday when they got their evening yummies) but still, I hate to think that she's in pain and not showing it. Piggies sure are tough!

Please send good thoughts to my sweetie oldie ❤️

Recycled wool

So I recently upgraded my Traddie to a double treadle. The seller was so kind to include a bag of fiber with the purchase. It's 60% recycled wool of various sources and 40% recycled sari silk. I'm used to spin wool like Texel, Zwartbles, Shetland and mountain sheep but I'm trying to expand my choices and I've done merino, BFL, cashmere and even some camelids. But this is something else! The staple length is sooo short and the sari silk has its own specific challenges. But I LOVE these colors!

There are so many slubs that I think I'm going to ply it with a nice and even thread. Any suggestions on colors?

I can spin a white thread and dye it myself.

WIP Wednesday

I've done a couple of pieces with round diamonds, this is my first larger, more decent quality and with square diamonds. I started at the bottom and wasn't really happy with the brown leaves but it's really growing on me. The tulip colors are really vivid. I got a tip over here to use contact paper instead of using a scalpel to cut up the plastic cover and it works like a charm!

I'm really looking forward to finishing this 😊

Different cut on square drills

So I took the advise I got at my previous question to heart and started a painting that I actually like: these tulips.

However, I found after I started that the drills have been cut differently in the same batch. I've only done round drills before and they don't seem to have the same problem. Some are cut diagonally and some are cut straight. Is this normal?

It's been kind of a hassle getting these paintings (I got the wrong ones at first and communication with the shop isn't exactly fast) and I think I'll get a better and faster response over here. Really appreciate the help!

Finish a project you dislike?

I got this canvas from a friend, she doesn't know where she got it. It might be the local equivalent of the dollar store, who knows. The level of detail is just very low and after finishing the first half, I just don't like it at all. I can see that the end result will look nowhere near as detailed as the picture suggests.

I kind of feel obligated to finish it for practice (it's not like she wanted it returned or something) but I just know it will end up somewhere in a binder.

What do you do with a painting you dislike?

I got this cute sloth from marketplace. It was real fun, but there were some frustrating parts that might be because there is some AI involved in the process? I feel that there was a lot of confetti (I usually do cross stitch where we use the word to describe several loose color crosses, instead of a more grouped effect, is it a DP term too?) and for some reason two very similar colors (898 and 938) were given D and O. And the 40x50 turned out to be 25x35cm als well 🤦‍♀️

So I thought I'd order domestic to prevent this. Got the wrong order (double 🤦‍♀️) but I checked the painting and it has over 13000 black 310 diamonds. I have to return it but still, I don't know if I prefer these huge black spots over confetti.

I guess I fell in every beginner trap there is. Any tips to prevent this happening in the future? I'm in the Netherlands btw so I prefer to buy European, no Amazon or Temu/Ali/Shein.

Also, now that I've finished it... can I just cut the white sides off? Is rolling the bits on safe enough? I've seen people spray the finished artwork, is that really necessary? I'm planning to store my finished painting(s) in a binder until I decide which I want to frame.

I got this braid years ago when I just started spinning. I had a 80's Louet S10 at the time and it wasn't a match. Braid ended up in a storage bin. Just took it out, it's the perfect spring color combo! I'm so happy to get started and I love the color match with my Kromski Fantasia wheel.

It's 100% superwash merino (not my favorite base but still...) and I plan to chainply the single.

We lost our beloved Choco last weekend and Ice (yes they were named by my kids) has been so off since then! So today we went to the shelter and Ice had a date with Marshmallow. They're about the same age, about four or five. Mallow was brought to the shelter because she didn't do well alone after she lost her friend. She's a bit skinny but according to her caregiver she's been gaining weight after she was left at the shelter so I'm sure she'll get a healthy weight in no time.

She went home with us! They are still in the getting to know you phase but I have a good feeling about them ❤️
