Pauline Hanson, an Australian far-right anti-immigration politician had 180 days being an eligible voter under the White Australia Policy.

The dispelling about the immigration debate
A favorite talking point among conservatives and anti-immigration activist in Australia has for some time been the claim has 'too' much immigrants and larger immigration rates when compared to similar countries. While it might be technically true to some extent, this claim is highly misleading and is used as justification to call for unwarranted and extreme cuts towards immigration alongside ethnonationalism. Thus it is important to put this claim into context, to be able to respond to this claim and spot columnists and politicians trying to trick you by leaving out important context.
The reality is that the fastest rate immigration since Federation is actually post-war Australia (1947 to 1972) that has the highest immigrant growth (per capita) with 9.8% Foreign Born in 1947 to 20.2% in 1972 meaning a 10.4% increase and more than tripling the immigrant population (From 740K to 2.6 M) in the 25 year timeframe whereas Immigration from 2000 to 2025 saw it went from 23% to 32% respectively which is a 9% increase and doubling the foreign born population (4.39M to 8.83M). The only key difference is that the former is almost all hail from white countries with a large plurality being from Anglo Countries unlike the latter which leans more to Asia (especially from 2010 onwards) which is why the latter gets much more scrutiny. The high foreign born percentages (32%) which is often compared to other nations is ironically inherited from the post-war phase of the White Australia Policy as it actually was already above 20% ever since 1971 (meaning it was already above 20% even before the White Australia Policy was abolished in 1973) compare this to US and UK where their foreign born percentages are currently still around the teens and Canada/NZ reached 20% in the 2000s.

Regarding the higher NOM than pre-covid levels, here is the actual context why.
| Migrant arrivals ('000) | Migrant departures ('000) | Net overseas migration(b) ('000) |
|---|
Compare the year to June 2025
| Jun-25 | 568.37 | 262.80 | 305.57 |
|---|
To year ending to years up to covid from 2017
| Jun-17 | 540.15 | 276.80 | 263.35 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sep-17 | 540.06 | 280.64 | 259.43 |
| Dec-17 | 531.37 | 289.71 | 241.66 |
| Mar-18 | 527.23 | 289.23 | 238.00 |
| Jun-18 | 527.52 | 289.30 | 238.22 |
| Sep-18 | 530.94 | 288.62 | 242.32 |
| Dec-18 | 534.40 | 282.18 | 252.22 |
| Mar-19 | 536.60 | 285.93 | 250.67 |
| Jun-19 | 550.40 | 309.06 | 241.34 |
| Sep-19 | 566.35 | 324.32 | 242.04 |
| Dec-19 | 607.87 | 360.25 | 247.62 |
| Mar-20 | 618.36 | 379.11 | 239.25 |
You can see that the recent Migrant Arrivals already lower than the year up to December 2019 and already more in line with 2017, 2018 and 2019 Numbers (adjusting for a slightly higher total population). It is actually Migrant Departures that are still lower than pre-covid levels which contributes to the higher NOM which in turn are due to people consolidating their return after COVID between 2022 to 2024. Nevertheless, NOM already declined by 40% from the peak of 555k to 305k.
EDIT: From my memory, I remembered there was a comment in another Reddit Thread with a chart indicating Australia post-covid migration arrival per capita was actually in the middle of the pack compared the other OECD (I think?) countries, but I forgot and can't find where it is so show me if I am probably referring to.
With that truth hopefully now obvious, we can see that anyone who tries to justify cuts to immigration on the grounds that, "Australia Immigration is out of control", are either misinformed or actively trying to mislead people in order to push their political agenda of bringing back White Australia Policy 2.0. Keep this in mind over the coming days, weeks, months and potentially years as we hear this talking point again and again to try and convince us that we need to be "Cut Immigration Sharply" or "Australian Culture being eroded ".
Don't let people get away with this talking point, it's pure propaganda.
EDIT: Contrary to people in the comments saying 'I am for open border/Infinite Immigration , it is not true at all. In fact, what I advocate well managed immigration but I am massive supporter of multiculturalism, racial tolerance and the belief Immigrants contributed to the nation. This is why I am completely opposed the One Nation cause which about scapegoating and bigotry towards People of Color alongside her agenda in bringing far-right authoritarianism.

The context was a debate about lowering the voting age to 16 but Hanson not only oppose lowering the voting age but also wanting to raise the voting age to 21. She said 'many teenagers are too confused, underprepared, and heavily influenced by ideological agendas in the education system'.
