General sophomore-senior semester workload

Specifically as an ECE major, is it normal to take say 3 technical courses (ECE or CS department) and one non-technical, whether it be a math elective, gen ed, etc? Is this common or do people usually take less/more technical courses per semester

Unable to open websites in firefox that work on other browsers

I keep running into an issue where specifically with websites affiliated with Carnegie Mellon University, when I open them in firefox (my main browser), I run into an error saying something like this (obviously the website address varies but you get the idea):
Server Not Found

Firefox can’t connect to the server at academicaudit.andrew.cmu.edu.

What can you do about it?

Try connecting on a different device. Check your modem or router. Disconnect and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

however when I open it on chrome it's able to load fine, so it must be some settings with firefox. Does anybody know how I could fix this?

Is this ECE schedule feasible for first sem

Im an incoming freshman for ECE, and im planning on 47 units:

- 18100

- 76101

- 21241

- 21127

- 99101

I'd say I'm pretty good at math, I've done AMC's and qualified for AIME a few times, so I'm wondering whether this schedule is manageable or not for people in similar positions

Palmrest to fit K2 ultra flush

the k2 ultra is specified at 311.5mm but the only palmrest options for 75% keyboards are 317mm. are there any other palmrests online that are flush with the 311.5mm spec or not? here is the link of the keyboard:

https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k2-ultra-8k-wireless-custom-mechanical-keyboard

also im a little confused since the 317mm palmrest looks like it'd be flush with a 75% compact keyboard in the picture on the palmrest website but the spec says otherwise

Youtube and all of Chrome constantly glitching with varied video effects

Chrome has lately been constantly glitching on my windows 11 computer. youtube has been especially bad with this. This issue in the image I've uploaded is the video itself sliding right to left repeatedly, only one frame of it is there, but it will continue playing audio but slide right to left forever, refreshing the page didnt work or anything, and earlier there was a random black bar that covered half of the screen as well and I had to restart my computer to fix that. Chrome as well has been having glitchy issues where the screen will randomly start tweaking and stuff will move all over the place, it's too fast for me to react and get a screen capture. Anybody else having these problems recently?

Best way to start using GTO wizard

I'm a relatively novice player, playing for about a year at casual home games (5c/10c) with $10 buy ins. However, I'd like to take my knowledge of poker theory beyond just pot odds and basics, like knowing when to open up my range, targeting parts of other peoples' ranges, bet sizing, etc. What's the best way to start using GTO Wizard to improve at these aspects of the game? I'm a little confused by the trainer, as it just tells me if a choice was positive EV or not, but I don't understand why a choice would be positive EV, since it'll depend on the opponent position as well as their bet sizing, so where is a good place to start learning the basics on those?

Worth applying to Stanford MSEE or UCB Meng EECS as a CMU ECE student

I'm a CMU ECE student, and I'm considering whether or not applying to Stanford or UCB for their terminal masters in EE for Stanford or EECS of Berkeley in a few years. I'm a CMU student, and the alternative would be keeping my GPA up to qualify for the Carnegie Mellon ECE Integrated Bachelors & Masters program (guaranteed admission provided I keep my GPA up), which would let me get my terminal masters in ECE in 5 years. My goal is to start working in the industry within computer architecture and/or embedded systems as soon as I graduate with my masters, and I want to have a high earning potential within these fields. Is it really worth it to try to spend time doing research targeted towards those external departments, or should I just keep my GPA up, focus on CMU, and do clubs and internships oriented around my interests?

Most useful classes for robotics and AI industry applications

Im an ECE major and doing a robotics minor. I'm interested in physical AI and robotics, especially autonomous navigation and sensing. What are the most useful undergraduate classes offered in robotics and ECE that cover these topics, specifically that prepare for working in the industry and in internships?

CMU vs gtech electrical/computer engineering

Just got off the waitlist for gtech, where I'd do computer engineering. right now im committed to cmu for ECE. Money isn't an issue, my parents made that clear. My main goal is to work in automation and physical AI, though I may be interested in computer architecture, and I want the opportunity to work in startups. Which would be the better choice?

I want to get a new pair of sony XM headphones. Right now, I have my older brother's 6 year old XM4's, and my main issues are that the noise cancellation is not perfect (I have a few siblings and pets that make enough noise to still be distracting) and that when wearing it for long periods of time, the areas right around my ears where the earcups touch my head hurt and I have to take it off for a few minutes.

I plan on studying in a dorm or library where it'll usually be pretty quiet, and will need to be able to have them on for long periods of time. I usually use my Airpods for everyday listening to music and the xm4s when studying because they have better noise cancellation, so I don't care if one is worse for daily use outside of studying. The case size does not matter for me, as my backpack is large enough where it can comfortably hold both. I also have a relatively small head, which Idk if it contributes to the discomfort.

The XM5's are currently on sale at 270 dollars while the XM6's are 450 dollars, so its a 180 dollar difference. If the XM6's dont provide 180 dollars worth of comfort and noise cancellation improvements, I would go with the XM5's. Sound quality is not a problem for me, as I can't really distinguish between audio quality past the level of my airpods pro. I also want to buy one that will last for all 4 years of college (and ideally even longer). Which would be the better choice for me?

I'm committed to CMU for ECE, and I'm incredibly grateful and happy with my choice (honestly feel really lucky considering my other results but that's normal from what ive heard to get into only one reach). The only thing that bugs me a little bit is that on commitment day, there were maybe 5 people that were not my friends/other engineering/cs kids that knew what CMU was, and all of them happened to be in orchestra or theater. Everybody else who saw my shirt asked me what it is, where it's located, etc. Even some people going into MechE and EE and ChemE that applied to schools like Gatech and Purdue and Boulder didn't know what CMU was. Is there a reason that CMU is not as well known as similarly good schools like Gatech and Berkeley outside of STEM and performing arts circles? Also on a side note, is there a reason it's ranked low even though its CS and AI and engineering departments are ranked high? I'm less concerned about us news rankings since I can't do anything about it, but im just curious.

I'm sure employers know it very well considering CMU's internship programs and placements but I'm just wondering amongst people that go into fields like medicine, business (even though Tepper is really good, many of the kids going into business at my state school had never heard of CMU), psych, polisci, etc like Purdue, Berkeley, and Georgia Tech are

edit: also can we get andrew Mellon out of the name, go back to carnegie institute of technology, i keep getting ragebaited about going to fruit university

I'm an incoming freshman for ECE this fall, and my intended fall schedule is:

- 18100 Intro to ECE

- 76101 Interpretation and Argument

- 15122 Principles of Imperative Computation

- 21241 Matrix Algebra

- 99101 Core

In the spring, I'm intending for my courses to be:
- 24101 Fundamentals of Meche

- 26127 Concepts of math

- 16281 General robotics

- 36219 Probability theory and random processes

- 76271 Intro to professional technical writing

FCE's say that on average, these semesters are around 48-49 hours a week in coursework. My question is, what does that look like, and what's the best way to transition from HS to college for this? In HS, I pretty much spend zero time outside of school doing homework apart from writing essays or studying for tests in the 2-3 days leading up to them. I also want to do CMU Racing as I did FTC in high school, which took up about 20 hours out of my weeks. Is this schedule doable, and what advice do you all have for making this transition? Are there any classes to watch out for that are deceptively hard/time consuming?
