After 2 terms Henry Cabot Lodge the nation has faced challenge after challenge with the quality of life slowly going down. Political Radicalization and Polarization has reached it's peak with Lodge unable to do anything to stop it, inflation and unemployment is high and economic growth is low.
On the Foreign stage North Vietnam invaded the south in '69 and America was ever since that engaged in a war against the North with thousands of American boys dying everyday. Change is coming soon and the only question we have to ask is "Who will bring it?"
On the Left on the political spectrum is George Stanley McGovern, Senator from South Dakota. Ever since Robert was assassinated by a White Supremacist during a rally in Texas, McGovern has led the Liberal wing. McGovern starts with a solid lead ahead of Goldwater, he just has to play it safe.
On the Right is Barry Morris Goldwater, Goldwater has emerged through a divisive primary against George Romney, William Scranton, John Tower and Nelson Rockefeller. Goldwater has to somehow unify his party and bridge the polling gap.
Can Goldwater bring New Republicanism to the national stage or will America Come home

McGovern however popular he is, is a very polarizing figure and his nomination would also anger the more Conservative wing of the Democratic Party possibly causing them to bolt to Goldwater unless McGovern gives them some concessions. Additionally McGovern does not poll well among moderates and of course Labor which he will need for victory.)

However the alternative to not picking him is the Conservative wing bolting, the Party establishment not funding you, or at worst the Establishment just straight up denying you the nomination. If you go through all that and still win the nomination don't expect a warm reception. If Hollings is nominated he wouldn't help much, the south is going for Barry anyways and will only serve to undermine you in the north)

^(Barry Morris Goldwater is a Loser. Goldwater first ran in 1964 and lost against Lodge, he tried to challenge him again in '68 and was trounced. Many expected Governor Reagan to run in '72 but with his refusal to run Goldwater entered again. It was largely expected he'd be trounced by Rockefeller or Romney but somehow, someway he secured the nomination of the Republican Party.)
^(Goldwater has learned a thing or two from his previous failures and isn't as gaffe prone as his run in '64, even with that aside just like McGovern he is a polarizing figure, seen as too conservative and so he'll need to moderate so that he can unify his party.)

He wouldn't exactly please the more Liberal wing however. It also doesn't help that Tower isn't exactly the best campaigner. He'd make sure however to secure the whole south and wouldn't overshadow you.)

Agnew would also be a good attack dog being good at mudslinging and attacks. However his home state Maryland won't exactly be a major battleground in this election and he is rumored to be corrupt. Aside from that he is the perfect VP candidate

1968, A year of unrest, crime and an ever growing counterculture. Despite the relative period of economic stability under Lodge unemployment and inflation is rising, disillusionment with the establishment is growing. Lodge will have to claw, scratch and go All The Way! if he wants a victory.
Entering stage right is the incumbent president Henry Cabot Lodge. Lodge's presidency has been a very busy one from signing the CRA, to deecelating the Vietnam situation and passing Welfare Reform. If Lodge wants any chance of victory he must first fend against the radicals of the New Right and second run an aggressive campaign on Johnson while also defending his administration
Entering Stage Left is former vice president and Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson has popularity among the establishment. To win he has to exploit Republican divisions, attack Lodge's unpopular decisions and somehow, someway prevail.

The Year is 1964, John F. Kennedy has survived an assassination attempt by Lee Oswald Harvey, missing the bullet by a matter of a few inches. History had changed and in a major way, however back in Washington all was the same, the Dixiecrats and especially Byrd obstructed Kennedy's presidency, the CRA was delayed and Kennedy had very little leverage to stop this.
All the Hope, the promises made by Kennedy for a better future, Where was it? Absolutely nowhere.
The 1964 Election opens up with two Liberals from their respective parties running.
Henry Cabot Lodge Jr is a former two term senator from Massachusetts, a liberal, Ambassador to the United Nations and running mate of Richard M. Nixon in the 1960 election.
Lodge starts out slightly behind against Kennedy and will have to attack on Kennedy's failure to pass the CRA, JFK caving into the Dixiecrats, high unemployment and his handling of Cuba if he wants to win.
John F. Kennedy on the other hand must play on the defense, defending his foreign and domestic policy, the economic growth and utilize his charisma and telegenic looks to score the win. Kennedy also must balance the more conservative, segregationist wing with the more liberal pro-civil rights wing to prevent a third party bolt from someone like Wallace

This Mod's Timeframe would be start to finish from 1939-1946, this is an alternate history if the WTB plan was implemented the SPD became a Volkspartei, the economy recovered and neither the NSDAP or KPD rose to the heights of their power and Otto Braun became President but gave up the title of Minister President of Prussia and Ernst Heilmann would succeed him. By 1933 a Weimar Coalition led by Severing would be formed and would stand for 4 years until 1937 where he successfully got elected. Now it is January 1st, 1939, the Severing cabinet remains popular having done great strides of reform, from the large reduction of Unemployment, rise of the economy it is a bright time for Germany.
However the Red Menace in the east is setting their sights on Poland and Eastern Europe, hungry for conquest, only time can tell if the Deutsch Reich can persevere through the waves of history. Will the Reich overcome all the odds thrown at them or will the nation be like all nations washed away by the tides of History.
