Can We Talk About How Bad Bike Theft Has Got?

Guys, can we talk about how messed up thieves are?

Everywhere I go, people keep telling me, "Your bike's going to get stolen." I've even had people tell me some thieves walk around carrying tools specifically to break bike locks.

I'm at the point where if I can't see my e-bike or a car parks in front of where I left it and blocks my view, my heart instantly drops. It's genuine panic.

It's not even because I'm attached to the bike itself. It's because without it, I can't work. I'd have to go back to a 9-to-5 job with no freedom, and that absolutely destroys my mental health.

Stealing an e-bike from a delivery rider isn't just stealing a bike, it's stealing someone's livelihood.

It genuinely disgusts me that people can do that to someone just trying to earn an honest living.

Drivers Should Be Paid for Long Wait Times

Uber should consider paying drivers for excessive wait times at restaurants. I've been using Uber for almost three months, and I've frequently had to wait much longer than the pickup time provided by the restaurant. After waiting 10 minutes or more, canceling the order isn't a good option because the driver's time has already been wasted. Drivers should be fairly compensated when restaurant delays significantly impact their earnings and productivity.

Uber's Rating System Needs to Be Fairer for Drivers

Uber should count every order as a thumbs-up unless the customer gives a thumbs down or reports a problem. If a customer receives their order and doesn't complain, that usually means the delivery was successful and they were satisfied.

I'm still fairly new to this, but even I can see how unfair the current rating system is. Most customers only remember to leave a rating when they have something to complain about, and sometimes they're just looking for a refund. I've seen many Uber Eats drivers with over 1,000 deliveries but only around 100 reviews. How is that a fair reflection of their performance?

Drivers deserve a rating system that accurately represents the work we do. We're here to work, and for many of us this is a full time job. Most drivers put in their best effort every day, and the system should recognize successful deliveries just as much as it highlights complaints.

Why Are Drivers Held Accountable, But Restaurants Aren't?

Why can't we rate restaurants as Uber Eats drivers? Drivers get blamed for everything, but some restaurants are just as bad. They can rate us for having a bad attitude, but what about when staff ignore drivers while orders are sitting there ready? Or when they make drivers wait around for no reason, costing us time and money?

The rating system should work both ways. If a restaurant consistently wastes drivers' time, treats drivers poorly, or has excessive wait times, those low ratings should actually mean something. Restaurants with a pattern of poor service should face penalties or be required to improve, just like drivers are held accountable for their performance.

9.5 Miles, Zero Streetlights, and the Night I Thought I Was in a Horror Movie

The road was pitch black. No lights. No cars. No people. Just me and my e-bike riding through what felt like the opening scene of a horror movie.

The entire time I was thinking, ““Well, this is how my horror movie starts.” Somehow I survived, but that ride aged me 10 years. Good experience though never doing anything over 4 miles again At night.

Why people are like this? Falsely blaming me for a damaged item? My satisfaction is down to 88%

I delivered the order, and the customer complained that an item was missing from the sealed bag. I told them I can't check sealed bags, so if anything is missing, that's on the restaurant. Apparently that wasn't good enough, because they reported it as a damaged item. Make it make sense!

Bro, I had no idea Uber tracked the hours I usually work. I always deliver from 19:00 to 23:00, but my quests kept being set for 17:00 to 21:00. Now they've switched my quests to 19:00-23:00 too. Massive W, fr. 🔥💯

That's It, No More ASDA Orders for Me

The orders are heavier, packed with large drinks and bulky items, the distances are longer, and the wait times are ridiculous. Yet the pay is exactly the same as delivering food. Why should I destroy my back carrying all that weight when food deliveries are much easier and pay the same?

Oh I missed these quests

It’s not a huge amount, but it gives me the push to earn a little more. I’m working towards getting my driving licence, which will unlock more hours, more job opportunities, and help me take the next step forward.

I'm on uber for two months and my issue is..

I really miss Quests, but my biggest issue is the unpaid waiting time. Drivers can arrive at a restaurant on time and still end up waiting 15+ minutes for an order, yet we're not compensated for that lost time. During those waits, we can't complete other deliveries, so our hourly earnings take a hit through no fault of our own.

It feels unfair that drivers are expected to absorb the cost of restaurant delays while Uber simply treats it as part of the job. Is Uber planning to address this? Even a reasonable wait-time payment after a few minutes would make a big difference and show that drivers' time is valued!

I need advice from my fellow uber eats delivery bros

Guys, I'm new to delivery work and my e-bike is only 2 months old. I bought it for £729, but I'm now thinking of switching from an e-bike to a moped so I can work longer hours and potentially earn more.

Does anyone know if there's a way to trade my e-bike for a moped, perhaps with someone who wants to switch the other way? Or are there any places in Southampton where I can rent a moped?

Looking back, buying the e-bike without doing more research probably wasn't the best decision, but I was on my own and didn't have enough information at the time. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks!

Horrible choice Delivery

I don't regret it, but it definitely wasn't satisfying. The bridge was closed, which ended up doubling the mileage. I considered canceling the order, but I felt bad for the customer, so I made the trip anyway. Stupid choice, I know.

When I arrived, I told him that under normal circumstances I would have canceled, but I didn't want him to miss his dinner. He barely reacted and seemed completely nonchalant about it. I think that's why it felt so unsatisfying.

I guess that's how we learn sometimes—some lessons have to be experienced firsthand before they really stick. At least now I know: if this happens again, I'm canceling the order.
