Pet Eng or Energy Transition

Hi everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about the future of the oil & gas industry and the direction energy is heading globally. I’m curious to hear from people who have experience in petroleum engineering or related energy fields esp enrgy transition or renewable energy.

• How has the industry changed over the years?
• Is it still a field you would recommend today?
• Do you think petroleum engineering still has strong long-term opportunities internationally?
• If you could start over, would you stay in oil & gas or move toward energy transition/renewables instead?
• For someone interested in offshore/rig work but also broader energy topics, what path would you suggest?

Would really appreciate hearing different perspectives and experiences. Thanks!

Petroleum eng or energy transition?

Hi everyone,

I’m a recent Petroleum Engineering graduate from Southeast Asia and I’m considering taking a Master’s in Petroleum Engineering, possibly at AGH University of Krakow.

I wanted to ask those who already took a Master’s in Petroleum Engineering:

•How was your career after graduation?

•Was it difficult to find jobs in the industry?

•Did the degree help you internationally?

•If you had the chance to choose again, would you still take Petroleum Engineering?

•Or would you choose energy/renewables or another field instead?

Any advice for someone who still wants to work on rigs but also wants broader energy knowledge?
Would appreciate hearing your experiences. Thanks a lot!

Truths about AGH

Hello! Im M24 and I’m a recent Petroleum Engineering graduate from Southeast Asia and currently considering a master’s at AGH University of Krakow.

I still want to work on rigs and stay in the oil & gas industry, but I also want to expand my knowledge into energy transition fields like renewables, CCS/CCUS, or hydrogen.

I have a few questions:

  1. How is the Petroleum Engineering master’s program at AGH?
  2. Are there good internship or industry opportunities while studying?
  3. How is student life in Kraków for international students?
  4. What are the career opportunities after graduation?
  5. Would you still recommend pursuing a Petroleum Engineering master’s today?
Or is it better to shift toward energy/renewable-related fields while keeping an O&G background?

Would really appreciate your thoughts and experiences. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I’m a recent graduate of BS Petroleum Engineering from the Philippines, and I’m planning to pursue a Master’s degree in energy-related fields (energy transition, renewable energy, etc.) in Europe.

Since I couldn’t upload a screenshot, here’s the list of universities and programs I’m considering:

- Poznan University of Technology – M.Sc. in Green Energy

- AGH University of Krakow – Energy Transition

- AGH University of Krakow – Renewable Energy and Energy Management

- AGH University of Krakow – Raw Materials Value Chain

- Gdansk University of Technology – M.Sc. in Smart Renewable Energy

- Wroclaw University of Science and Technology – Renewable Sources of Energy

I’d really appreciate your honest opinions:

- Which of these universities/programs are the strongest in terms of reputation and quality in energy engineering?

- Are there any that are particularly well-known for industry connections or job opportunities after graduation?

- Is AGH a better choice overall since I listed multiple programs there?

- Any red flags or things I should be aware of (teaching quality, workload, international student experience, etc.)?

Also, if you studied in Poland or in any of these universities, I’d love to hear your experience.

Thanks in advance!
