Why do you not have big bookstores?

Hey, as someone who travels a lot and buys a lot of foreign books, I have to say that the bookstores in Poland disappoint me. I did buy a couple of books, but the fact that the biggest one I could find was the size of a pretty average bookstore in my country (Norway) says a lot.

Why do you not have big bookstores?

Gdansk or Krakow or ... ?

Looking for advice on where to visit in Poland. Due to limitations on the home front I can't plan enough time to hit multiple cities so looking for opinions on a good location for my first trip. Will probably go in late summer or early fall.

My MO is to settle somewhere and spend my time wandering around getting to know a place. Not interested in clubbing, more of the history and food type of tourist. Appreciate any input/ ideas. TIA!

Warsaw Chopin Airport question ( WAW )

Hello dear Poland!

I have a flight from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Skopje using LOT airways.

Could you please tell me if I should online check-in or check-in at the airport?

I have a big suitcase and I have no clue how your airport works as I'm first time going to be in Warsaw. How do I check in my luggage and flight ticket?

Could someone be kind enough to explain me how your airport works?

Thank you in advance!

Where can I find this potato-based crunchy topping?

There's a US-based company called Vegify that made a savory crunchy crumble topping made mainly from potatoes with flavors such as carrot, cauliflower, turmeric, and beet. The jars say that it's a product of Poland. Unfortunately, it looks like Vegify is out of business, and I'm in love with the crumbles! I'm vegetarian and use them on vegetable dishes and salads. If anyone is familiar with what these are called in Poland, a brand, or place to buy them, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks in advance!

International student arriving at 17 (3 months away from 18). Do I need an in-person legal guardian in Poland for visas/dorm check-in?

Hey everyone! I'm an international student planning to study at AGH University in Kraków this upcoming semester. I have a quick question about documents: at the exact time of admission/arrival, I will be 17 years old (about 3 months away from turning 18). I don't have any family or contacts living in Poland. For those who arrived at AGH as minors, what was the process like for parental consent forms, dorms, and visas? Did you face any issues during those first few months before turning 18?

Options for high school education in Poland

Hello! I would like your help please! There is a possibility of moving to Poland next year and I wanted to know what the options are for my daughter. She will be 15 and I'm concerned about what route she should follow. From what I have seen and please correct me if I'm wrong, there are the options of high school, technical school and Branżowa school. She speaks English but doesn't speak polish. She will study though polish for one year before leaving. However, it can't be even close to enough in order to follow in school ,let alone to take the final exams. I'm thinking that the best option would be the branzowa. City wise we are thinking of Wroclaw or Poznan. Unfortunately, international schools are very expensive so they are out of the question. What is your opinion please?

Has anyone moved from the UK to Poland?

My wife is Polish and we’ve been married for 13 years. We have a son and another child on the way. We’ve recently been discussing the possibility of moving to Poland for several reasons.
My main thought is that if we’re going to do it, it’s better to move sooner rather than later so the children can integrate more easily and learn the language while they’re young. My wife is a supermarket manager, and her company allows international transfers. I work as a design engineer in the aerospace sector, but I’m open to other roles.
The sale of our house in the UK should give us enough money to buy a property outright in Poland. I’m wondering if anyone else has made the move and how difficult they found it.
I don’t speak Polish fluently by any means, but I can just about get by. I’m confident my language skills will improve once I’m surrounded by Polish speakers, though I know it will still be challenging at first.
What I’m really looking for is honest advice and personal stories from others who have done it — especially how you found work, how hard the transition was, and any lessons you learned.

Jak Polacy traktują Ukraińców? / How do Poles treat Ukrainians?

Are poles verbally blunt or is it more of a translation thing?

This applies to many places in eastern europe, but especially Poland

There are many people who are friendly, but others come off as blunt, maybe even unintentionally, and i'm wondering if it's just them being blunt or if they struggle to phrase things politely in English

so they'd say stuff like "give me that" instead of "could you give me that?", etc

8 days in Warsaw with my girlfriend (first visit) romantic date ideas + budget help?

Hi everyone,

This is both mine and my girlfriend’s first time in Poland. I’ll be moving to Warsaw in September, and she’s flying in from the UK to visit me for 8 days. We’re really excited but also a bit overwhelmed trying to plan things properly, so I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

We’re looking for:

•	Romantic date ideas in Warsaw

•	Cute but not overly expensive experiences

•	Fun things for first-time visitors (not just super touristy stuff)

•	Chill days vs “special night out” ideas

•	Any day trips worth doing from Warsaw

•	Rough cost estimates so we can budget properly

In your experience, what workplace etiquette habits are most appreciated in Poland?

Professional communication styles can vary a lot between countries and industries. I’d be interested to hear which workplace habits or social norms people in Poland generally see as respectful, professional, or important in everyday work culture.

What are the most traditional beer snacks in Poland?

My guess is kabanosy but I recently spotted dried fish on my neighbor’s balcony. Is it a popular homemade beer snack here as well? Maybe some other uncommon treats?

Is it in polish culture to beat your kid? (genuine guestion, no offense)

I dont know how to word the question, but ill give some context for better understanding. My boyfriend and his family is from poland (I am not from poland, and we do not live in poland). There have been a few instances where ive witnessed his father beating him as a punishment or „discipline“. My boyfriend and his dad know that its wrong but they both excuse it as something that us typical for polish people to do. I need to know if this can be confirmed, or not because I feel like they are both a little delulu.

Clarification: i know that in the past it was very common to beat your kids, but now times are changing and people dont really do that anymore because a) its scientifically proven that it doesnt help with discipline at all, and b) its typically frowned upon and in some cases illegal.

So again, is beating your child normal in poland?

Edit: I mentioned that we are not currently in poland. In the country that we are in it is ILLEGAL to beat your child and you will face social judgment for it. So the point that they both made „it is normal in poland“ is completely irrelevant because we are not in poland so in the eyes of the law and the general public here it is WRONG.
