How to get your first sale?

I don't consider trying to pitch family and friends valid sales. So how have you all gotten your first genuine sale?

Honestly just trying to make dollar 1 not dollar 1 million.

Getting true market validation is hard

So I won a hackathon as a team of one. All the judges and many of the participants were like I would totally buy this, how fun, awesome etc

Then fast forward a week and half and I built the thing for real.

Now I am trying struggle to potential customers to even beta test it and give me feedback let alone buy it.

How do you all get over that hurdle?

I won a hackathon so why not build it for real

I figured I'd share a small side project I've been working on.

During a fast 1 hour hackathon and somehow I managed to win the hackathon so I decided to see if I could take it from a prototype into something "real" product.

The idea came from something we've done manually with our kids for years using shared notes and scavenger hunt lists during vacations, road trips, museums, parks, and other family adventures. The MVP is now live: familyscavengerhunt.com
