Help! Ants steal my slug pellets

Help! Ants steal my slug pellets

Thanks to chat gpt for the dramatic illustration!

The ants on my allotment have learned that slug pellets are pretty nutritious, and presumably safe for ants to eat

They take the whole lot within an hour or so, I suspect they have learned the sound of them being scattered, they are incredibly efficient.

Never a single one left over for Mr Slug

Slug pellets used to be pretty effective, I guess I am not the only one with this problem, has anyone found a way round it?

Moving CT clamp - safe to cut and reattach?

My CT clamp is fixed to a consumer unit supply, but I now have a second consumer unit.

So I need to move the CT clamp to the shared live coming out of the smart meter.

It seems like something I should be able to do myself, except that I need to thread the wire through a hole in the wall, too small to feed the clamp through. This means cutting the CT clamp wire, threading, and re-joining (the terminals in the CT clamp have been glued).

Assuming I don't allow the cut wires to short with each other, is this safe to do with the system up and running, or should I shut everything down?

Can any electrician issue an EIC?

I had some work done upgrading a consumer unit, and an EICR was part of the quote.

After finishing the work, they quoted for "remedials" because there were issues with the EICR

All fair enough. But the quote for the remedials is astronomical, more than the original job. I suspect they feel they under quoted for the initial job and are trying to catch up.

I would like to get another electrician to look at the EICR remedials on a time & materials basis.

However, I have been told that I can't get the EIC for the original work unless the people who did the original work also carry out the remedials.

This seems like a bit of a hostage situation if true - I believe have to get an EIC to sell the house, for example, surely this doesn't mean I have to pay the original electricians whatever they want to issue the EIC?

Can anyone qualified issue it?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Does your Leaf take a long time to charge on Type 2?

After driving a Leaf for years, I just found that I have been charging at 3.5 kW overnight, not 7 kW. There's a setting.

I wondered why it often didn't complete charging overnight 🤦

And why public charging on Type 2 was dismal.

This must be the default setting, and the toggle is well hidden, so I bet I am not the only one. Any other muppets out there?

On the positive side.... I have just started charging during the day on my own solar power, and 7 kW would be too much, the panels are too weak, 3.5 kW is perfect.

Anyway, it's nice to know I have the choice.

I don't know if I am just taking crazy pills, but it looks like my SEG meter was installed backwards.

When the little arrow points to:

IMP, it reads about 680 kwh
EXP, it reads about 110 kwh
NET, it reads about -570 kwh

In other words, I have imported/used a lot more than I have exported back to the grid, right?

But the inverter smartphone app says the opposite - I have exported much more than I have imported over the month or so it has been running. I am sure this is correct, there is no way I have been a net importer over the last month or so. The inverter app numbers are about 20% different or so, but in the same general ballpark, but Export >> Import.

Was the SEG meter installed backwards, or do I perhaps not know how to read it?

If it makes a difference, there are two inverters and two sets of panels, one with an older FIT scheme and a FIT meter, and the new one that 'sees' the total generation/export from both sets of panels

I have had FIT with solar panels for many years, and I have just had a parallel system installed for SEG, increasing my capacity.

The installers assured me that this is fine - the rules say you can't be paid twice for the same electricity, but the two systems are independent with separate meters, so no risk of that...

But Octopus say I can't have both seg and fit on the same mpan. Then I explained the setup, and they said it would be fine. Now they have changed their mind again and said it's against the rules.

They don't seem to know quite what they are doing, but I tend to believe the installers - there's nothing in the rules to say you can't have two installations on the same mpan, one fit and one seg, as long as the meters are separate so you can't be paid twice.

Has anyone managed to get this set up with Octopus? What did you do or say to persuade them?!
