This setup combines my love for high performance machine and sound quality together.
I took inspiration from mid-century design, but I don't have the budget to furnish it with authentic pieces yet. The plan is to upgrade the room piece by piece over time.
I live in a small Asian townhome with my wife, and I've got these 2 small "bedrooms" of 2.78 by 3.13 M that were never used as ones. So I filled both of them with desks.
This room changed here and there over time, but Ikea became the backbone of almost everything in here.
From someone who has always been into proper stereo systems (nothing too crazy though), I didn't think I would end up falling for a smart speaker.
I've liked some of B&O's products like the Beolab 8 and 28, but those were never really realistic for me. The Beosound Balance was probably the only one that genuinely clicked and felt attainable.
When I built this room, I wasn't chasing ultimate fidelity. I wanted a place where I could work, play some games, and most importantly sit back in the lounge chair and enjoy room-filling music.
I also realized something while building this room: music here has to be easy. I don't want music to feel like an event every time. I want to walk into the room, press play, and have the room come alive.
Had a pair of Linn Series 3 here for a while but eventually moved away from it because I wasn't really using it to its full potential, whether I was sitting at the desk or across the room.
The Balance feels less like audio gear and more like furniture that happens to play music.
Also included a before shot of this room two months ago just for fun.
of course, with a touch of Mid-Century inspiration.
Before photo included for fun.
A while ago I shared this workspace here, but that post only showed one side of the room.
I thought I would finally share how the rest of the space comes together.
Last photo : Where it all started.
Turned a tiny storage room into a mid-century inspired workspace and listening room.
Back in March, this was just supposed to become “another room.” Then a random YouTube video sent me down a rabbit hole of interior design, lighting, furniture proportions, wood tones, and workspace setups.
I have zero background in design, so most of this came from research, experimenting, making mistakes, and using AI tools to help visualize ideas before trying them in real life.
The room is only around 9 sqm and used to be packed floor-to-ceiling with boxes, old furniture, camera gear, and random tech (before photo included).
Wanted to create something warmer and calmer while still keeping it functional as a modern workspace and listening room.
Still evolving, but it somehow became my favorite room in the house.
Just finished converting my storage room into an office where I can both work and relax.
