Hi, really need some insight and advice about my situations on switching careers.

I got admission for bsc psychology in jain university and now suddenly I don’t want to do psychology anymore since to become a neuropsychologist it’s going to take 10+ years and the salary is not even worth the hardwork.

I rewinded and thought about it, my fav subjects in last two years were physics, chemistry, and maths. So I decide taking engineering or IT related something is better for a better future.

I thought data science related jobs are interesting and wants to study coding but I am pretty sure by now application to many universities are over and I am cooked. I don’t think i’m getting into even semi-decent clg for data science + ai or any computer science related degrees. What should I do?

I feel like jain is my last option if I don’t want to take. a depressing gap year..

my_qualifications: 12th graduate from this year, 10th-95%, 12th- 93%

What would you do in my situation if your goal was to move abroad?

(Need responses urgently because today is the last day I can choose between colleges)

I’m a 2026 Class 12 graduate from India (PCMB, 93% in 12th, 95% in 10th). My longterm goal is to study abroad for my master’s (or PhD), build a career there, and if possible settle abroad.
Initially, I wanted to pursue psychology because I found neuropsychology fascinating. My plan was to complete my bachelor’s in India and then do my master’s abroad. However, after researching, I realized that becoming a licensed psychologist (clinical, neuropsychology, forensic, etc.) is difficult in most countries due to licensing requirements, and psychology also seems to have fewer scholarships and limited opportunities compared to some other fields.

Because of that, I started looking into data science. I genuinely find the work interesting (analyzing data, solving business problems, etc.), but after researching more, I also found many people saying the tech market is becoming oversaturated and AI is changing the industry. Now I’m unsure if I’m just jumping from one difficult field to another.

I also have ADHD, and although I perform well academically, procrastination caused me to miss admissions to several good colleges in India.

For context, I grew up as an NRI in Gulf countries, so I know how expensive undergraduate studies abroad are. That’s why I don’t think studying abroad for my bachelor’s is realistic financially.

Right now, my options are:
1)Jain University – BSc Psychology (Hons. with Research), then try for a master’s abroad.

2) RV University – BCA (Hons.) in Data Science & Analytics. I’ve heard many Indian BCA programs have outdated syllabus, so I’m worried about that.

  1. Take a gap year and prepare for competitive exams to get into a better Indian university.

  2. (Most unrealistic) Take a gap year and apply abroad for undergraduate programs with scholarships, even though I know the chances are low.

My questions are:

  1. If your goal was to study, work, and eventually settle abroad, which option would you choose?
  2. Between psychology and data science, which field currently offers better opportunities abroad for master’s/PhD, employment, and scholarships?
  3. Is taking a gap year worth the risk in my situation?

my_qualifications: completed 12th grade this year.
