Looking into doing MLAs Bred Well Fed well workshop. Has anyone else done it? Is it worth it or should I do a different one instead?
Sprayed out broadloaf ans grass in pastures but kept medic growing for grazing (currently grazing). However, there are huge medic numbers around and we use a DBS bar for sowing, which will struggle to get through large amounts of medic vine. We want to keep as much medic as we can but still need to be able to sow it next year. What would you do?
The dog community loves to talk about purebreed dogs and ethical breeding standards. I think some may have rubbed off on me. I do love to look at the conformation of my animals and see how they match up with the breed standards. I find that the standards changed based on your local region, especially for traits like wool type. Activists look to talk about ethical breeding for all types of animals, do you think there is a potential market for that? I often wonder if I could market wool and meat as ethical breed in compliance with breed standards for a niche market, but Im unsure if the demand is there? As a consumer, would you care about wool marketed as ethically bred or breed standard?
Its not new news that Australia's meat prices have recently been surging, with mutton reaching $9/kg at Wagga Wagga. But just how high do you think they will go? How many people do you know are getting out of sheep while the proces are high? Who's holding in, who's breeding more? Tell us your thoughts below 👇
Its getting closer to January 2027. All sheep and goats in South Australia and New South Wales will be required to have an EID/ NLIS tag for traceability, regardless of age. South Australia started rolling over to this policy in 2025, when all animals born from then must have an EID tag to leave the property. This comes after the success seen in Victoria, whi have had this in place since 2022. Other states are not far behond and soon, all of Australia will be fully EID/NLIS mandated. Are you ready for the switch? What have you done to prepare?
The government has had several ideas on how to next police Aussie farmers. What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think the risk of parkinsons disease is too great or do you think that there are other chemicals that also cause parkinsons that they arent focusing on? Personally, I dont agree with it. We know the risks and we take precautions (2-4D is way worse, what are you doing?) Let's hear your thoughts 👇

I have a 1 year old golden/wheaten border collie who is training to be a sheep dog. She has come along way in her yard work, not so far in her paddock work! She is quite fearful of everything (and I mean everything; children, the sound of fire, ceiling fans, road noise, driving throuh puddles, trees when we are driving, loud noises - you name it we're working through it) but gets into the sheep well. Her favourite things are chasing anything that moves, stick, ball, digging (quite questionable), sheep and hunting bunnies. Advice welcome 🙏. Im new here so apologies if I've done anything wrong
Every 10 days, we lose an Australian farmer to suicide. Sheep farming isn't all bouncing lambs and green grass. Share your tips and resources on keeping a good mindset when the hard times hit. Droughts, losses, and heavy work loads weigh on you. Whats you go to when things get tough? I often times need to remind myself that things wont always be this way, that eventually rains will come, that as sad as it is native predators need to eat too
Any sheep farmers wanting to improve their practises, learn or just have a chat? Come join me at r/SheepFarmers
I've recently been looking at my lambing data and it got me thinking, what is your yearly average and what do you consider a good or bad year?
