I am currently involved in my family’s jewellery wholesale business where we fulfil jewellery orders in bulk for retail jewellery stores and corporates like Malabar and Kalyan. Looking at the supply chain, there are a lot of middleman that are involved between the factory and the customer and that adds up a lot of middleman markups for the end consumer.

Because of the recent spikes in gold prices and people pushing towards lightweight, everyday wear, and lower karat (9kt, 14kt, 18kt gold), I wanted to explore a D2C startup for these categories. I believe that 9kt and 14kt would be the more attractive due to them being more affordable than 18kt or 22kt which has seen a downward trend this year.

I believe I can leverage my family’s existing factory connections to handle orders.
