Struggling to find a paralegal role

Starting to feel depressed about this. I've been applying to paralegal roles and training contracts since the beginning of my degree until now. I've graduated with a first and I have some legal work experience. I've applied all over the country but haven't landed any jobs. Most don't get back to me and I'm wondering if it's because of my visa situation. I'm transitioning from a student to graduate visa soon. Right now I'm out of the country but when I'm back I will apply for my graduate visa. Of course, if I find a job before then, I am more than willing to return sooner.

What platforms do you use to job search? I've tried the firms' websites, linkedin, indeed etc. What has been the most effective? Should I contact firms directly like via email and register my interest?

Research finds that Afro Trinis outperform Indo Trinis in almost eveey category

I posted on the other trini sub about this and there was a lot of backlash as many don't believe the findings to be true.

I think that the findings are terrifying when you realise whites are outperforming both afro and indo trinis to a high degree, but my point was that afro trinis actually outperform indo trinis in every category aside from home ownership as I think it is a misconception that Indians are doing so much better. The study finds otherwise.

No one talks about the divide and conquer strategy and how Indians were forced into poverty due to the collapse of the cocoa industry etc etc. Some people take this to mean that black people have it "so easy" but why can't we acknowledge these things without it being a personal attack?! We're ONE people and history/politics haven't been in our favour, just in different ways.

Here are some excerpts:

"Kelly (2022) found that while Blacks are significantlv disadvantaged in terms of income. education, and ownership of household amenities when compared to Whites and Mixed-race Trinidadians. East Indians report fewer vears of schooling, income, and amenities than Afro-Trinidadians."

"Moreover, East Indians have traditionally been concentrated in the agricultural sector--hence, rural areas--and thus have reported lower incomes than Blacks, who are concentrated in the energy sector and urban areas ( Premdas, 2006, Reddv. 2011 Sriskandarajah, 2005). However, it has been argued that Afro-Trinidadians no longer earn more than East Indians, and income parity between the groups has been noted in the 1980s"

"Therefore. from 1980 to 2011, the average Afro-Trinidadians gained four years of educational attainment. The same was found for East Indians, who, on average, gained four years of education. However, they lagged Blacks by one vear."

"Table 3 shows that Blacks earn significantly less

monthly income overall when compared to

Whites, Chinese, Syrian/Lebanese, Mixed-

others, and racial others. However, Blacks earn

more monthly personal income than East

Indians."

Edit: every* category

"The results reveal that Whites, along with other (numerical) smaller ethnoracial groups, continue to outperform Blacks and East Indians in educational attainment and personal income, despite the latter groups' notable and significant advancements over the decades East Indians continue to trail Blacks, although closely, in educational and personal income outcomes, but they surpass Blacks and all other racial groups in home ownership outcomes. And, while Blacks had the highest rate of household crowding in 1980, this disparity has decreased, with minimal differences between racial groups in subsequent census years."

Question from a sighted person

My bf is blind and is visiting my family for the first time. They have stopped me to tell me that I am being unkind and neglectful towards my bf. We've just travelled for over 30 hours and are both tired so naturally I will make some mistakes in guiding him more than normal and he will take some time to learn the layout of our home. According to them, I have chosen a "hard life" and it will always be like this so I can't use my tiredness as an "excuse". I feel very frustrated because I have been doing my very best to show him around but I KNOW that he learns in stages and learning the upstairs layout is not so much a priority right now as learning downstairs where he is staying. To be clear, they feel this way because they have seen me leaving him to figure out things on his own, eg: where is the dining room, how to find the rail to get upstairs. I have obviously shown him around but sometimes he will get disoriented or confused and just needs a minute to get it right. He always tells me to not help him and if he needs help he will say.

They even compared helping him to like taking care of a baby or a dog which I shut down. But they think I'm just being difficult for not understanding the analogy. Feeling so frustrated about this. He is not helpless! He can do things on his own. Yes he is blind but he can still navigate and his hearing is just fine so he used this to to move around. He also uses echolocation. But they still insist that I am not being caring enough and it comes across as though I am mistreating him...

I have spoken to him and he does not understand where they are coming from at all. I have gotten a lot of judgment from other people in the past as well. Has anyone else's partner or guide experienced this?

Feeling overwhelmed

First off, my (22) bf (25) was born blind and is almost completely blind for all of his life. I am feeling really down about our relationship.

I have adhd and am autistic and he also has adhd. I often feel like everything is my responsibility. Right now, I'm moving out of my current place and moving countries. I just keep looking around at everything and feeling overwhelmed. Even though he's here, he isn't much help. I've been cooking, cleaning up and packing on my own. I've communicated how it's making me feel but he is upset that I am demotivating him and not encouraging him to help.

But I just feel like it's too much for me. I look into the future and see myself so stressed and burnt out. I don't want him to feel discouraged but I am also tired of this. We recently came back from travelling and I also did all the chores. I was also the one packing and unpacking our bags every time we moved. Even searching for places to visit and where to eat, I have to decide. I get decision fatigue so this is not ideal. Of course I also do all the navigating and guide him.

His mom does everything for him and he has only recently been learning how to do things like cook. He doesn't really do much else. Sometimes he'll wash the dishes but I always have to ask and when he's doing it, I have to supervise because he will keep calling me to check everything. I have taught him how to fold clothes but it's always a mess. He leaves his stuff lying around and loses them easily. I am usually the one to find it. I also taught him how to groom himself as well so he looks presentable. He has a device to check the colours of things and another that he can use to make braille labels but he doesn't use them.

One day while we were travelling I got very sick and was in bed all day. We had to move the next day so things needed to be packed and cleaned up. I cried so much because he didn't take any initiative to do it even with me in that state. I had to push myself so hard to do it all.

I just feel so exhausted. I have even tried creating a system so he can remember where his things are and less things go missing but he doesn't always follow it. In the end, the visual mess is so overwhelming for me. I also bought ready-made meals/quick foods so he can easily do them himself but I still end up making them for him. Right now I am just sitting in the kitchen looking at everything I have to do and feeling so hopeless.

Any advice on what to do here?

[1442] Fractured (first chapter)

This is my first post! Please be brutually honest, I need it.

Chapter 1: Unsettled

The sun peaked through the canopy of the forest allowing light to shine on life below. Groaning, a young man squinted and shaded his eyes with the back of his hand.

“Lloyd Garmadon.” a voice echoed around him. Startled, he sat up and let his eyes adjust to his surroundings. His eyes stopped upon the silhouette of a woman. She moved closer to him, allowing him to make out her long, flowing, black hair and white robes adorned with gold lining. She smiled at him and offered her hand. He hesitated for a moment but eventually accepted it. Her hand firmly grasped his and pulled him to his feet.

“Who are you…?”  he asked. “Where am I?”

“There isn’t much time left,” She looked at him with a serious expression. She was strange but didn’t seem to have bad intentions. “All I hope is thar you don't lose yourself.” She held his gaze and spoke almost pleadingly.

“What do you mean? I haven't lost myself...” She looked at him so affectionately… Lloyd felt puzzled by her behaviour.

“But first you need to find yourself.” She let go of his hand and turned away. Behind her a dark mist waited with what seemed like the shadow of a figure.

“Wait!” He ran after her and grabbed onto the ends of her robes. Suddenly they were surrounded by a blinding light.

”What’s the point?!” a high-pitched voice yelled.

Lloyd sat up covered in sweat. He looked around frantically and found himself in his room again.

“Jay, you’re not the only one grieving!” a lower voice responded.

Lloyd sighed and covered his face as he registered the voices. What time is it? He looked over to his alarm clock. It’s 3 in the morning! He dragged himself out of bed, stretched and took a deep breath.

“This is highly irrational. You should all get some sleep..” a monotone voice joined in.

Lloyd's body felt so heavy. This atmosphere was really taking a toll on him. He had to keep the peace but he was so broken on the inside.

“Maybe everyone else forgot, but I won’t.” Jay replied. I guess this is happening…

Lloyd made his way out the door and down the hallway to where the argument was taking place. He stood in front of the big shoji doors to the training area.

“You're acting like you're the only one who misses her. We all do. But at least the rest of us are trying to help instead of being mopey all the time!” Kai retorted, anger rising in his voice. Lloyd pushed the doors open and took in the sight before him.

“Why don’t we all just take a moment- drink some tea, calm down-” Cole stepped between the two.

“Mopey?!” Jay grinded his teeth and spoke bitterly. “What have you done to find Nya? Nothing..!.”

“Oh that does it!” Kai drew his powers and Jay followed suit. They looked menacingly at each other as they held their positions in rotation.

“Ninja, please desist. Such a violent display of emotions is unbefitting a team.” Zane attempted to be a voice of a reason but his words fell on deaf ears.

Lloyd tried his best to keep a calm demeanour as he approached them but his frustration fell through. “What are you two doing?!” He shouted, standing between them. They all turned their attention to him at his sudden appearance.

“Have either of you ever considered if Nya would want this?” At his angered voice, they broke their glares and looked away. Lloyd’s heart couldn’t bare to see them in this state.

“Listen, we can’t keep going on like this. Nya would want us to support each other, not to fight like idiots!” Kai sighed at that with a remorseful look. Lloyd was hurt too and could hardly hold his tears back even saying her name.

“Sorry Jay, I guess we’re all just tired.”

Jay shook his head, “Whatever….” Jay didn’t meet his eyes, simply turned away and made for the door. Cole had to hold Kai back as he became irritated again at the boy’s attitude.

“Great, now that that’s settled. Can we get back inside before we wake Master-” Cole was cut off.

“Wake Master Wu? What is going on at this hour?” WIth impeccable timing, Master Wu stood in the doorway with his staff and an increasingly disappointed expression. Jay swerved around him without a word.

“Jay, where are you going?” But he didn’t utter a word and continued down the hall. Master Wu sighed. It was awful seeing him like that, as though all his spark was gone.

“Master Wu!” They said in unison.

Just as he opened his mouth to speak again, Kai cut him off this time. “Before you lecture us, Lloyd- I mean Master Lloyd- already did. No need for you to waste your breath,” Cole nodded along hurriedly and Lloyd rolled his eyes.

“Well,” he stroked his beard, “I suppose that should be sufficient. His father was also like that… it runs in the family.” He said the last part more to himself and retreated inside. They sighed, “We escaped that one-” Kai spoke up.

“But!” Master Wu returned and pointed his staff in their direction and they jumped at his sudden reappearance. “Do not let this happen again. It is impeding on your competency as a team.” He spoke again before leaving once more.

“Yes, Master.” Zane responded on their behalf.

The others turned to Lloyd and bowed, putting their hands together. “And of course, the old, wise and nagging, Master Lloyd.” Cole said. Lloyd sighed in response and they ran off before he could lecture them again.

“You should go inside. It’s cold and we have limited resources.” Zane replied in a stoic manner. LLoyd could only look at his back as the Nindroid retreated inside. Even Zane wasn't himself, like an empty shell. Lloyd shook his head, Cole was the only one keeping them together. He had to step up more. Cole can't do this on his own.

“Guys!” Pixal came rushing out, pulling him from his thoughts. “I think I-” She paused and looked around, "Oh, I thought you were all here. Where did everyone go?" She looked to Lloyd puzzled.

He smiled wryly, “Sorry Pix, you know how it is...what's up?"

"I think I've found a lead on a vengestone shipment!" She replied enthusiastically. Lloyd became serious then.

"Gather everyone in the hangar.” He responded. They finally had something to work with. Not like I was getting any sleep tonight anyway.

“I regret being awake right now.” Cole mumbled as he rubbed his eyes.

“Yeah, why are we here?” added Kai.

“Because it is imminent we locate the source of all these shipments.” Pixal pulled up a map onto the screen. “I’ve been following the sightings of Miss Demeanor. She was last spotted on this route five minutes ago.” She continued pointing to the map.

“Why and where would they be meeting this early?” Lloyd pondered.

“The mayor has commanded the commissioner to have his troupes patrol the city at every possible opportunity. Miss demeanor and her followers have caused frequent disturbances to civilians,” Zane explained. “As for their destination… that road leads directly out of the city.”

“By my calculations, she should reach the outskirts of Ninjago City in less than an hour. If you leave now, you should be there just in time.” Pixal added.

“Well what are we waiting for? Let’s go,” Cole seemed to be the most energetic as he rushed for the door. Probably the andrenaline rushing in now.

“Shouldn’t we come up with an actual plan first?” Cole kept his momentum and did a u-turn. Kai raised an eyebrow.

“Since when have you ever thought things out?” Cole laughed

Kai smirked and pointed in his direction, “Good point.” and they went rushing out the door.

“Wait.” Lloyd stopped them. “Kai’s right. We need a plan.”  Something feels off.

They all turned on their heels once more. “We do not have the time for a plan. We’ll have to make one on the way there.” Zane spoke up this time.

“See even Zane thinks so!” Cole added

“I don’t know… isn’t this too convenient? They’ve been so covert all this time…” Lloyd felt strange but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. Maybe it was that weird dream he had.

“Come on Lloyd, it’s just a few low level thugs. Nothing we can’t handle.” Kai dragged him along, “Let’s go.”

“And Jay?”

Kai sighed, “You know he won’t go…”he pulled him along again towards their vehicles.

I have a bad feeling about this.

How would you change the ending?

Fans often complain about the ending of the show (before DR) and that crystallised was just a bad season. So what would you change?

For me, I think that it was a missed opportunity to see more of the ninja grieving. Maybe we could have gotten a mini series or something. I also think that it is so out of character for Lloyd to be fawning over Harumi and hating his dad. He complained about Harumi in previous seasons and even warned Cole about Princess Varnia. If anything he should be untrusting of her.

He knows Garmadon is not choosing to be the way he is. So why is he so angry? Why don't we see him mourning the loss of his dad? Maybe strugggling with him being a different person rather than being upset with him.

We were teased so badly about Lloyd's oni form and nothing came of it. Since when are all onis bad? Mystaké died for nothing I guess

Help please with a birthday!

Hi everyone, I'm visiting Istabul with my bf and it's his birthday in a few days. He is so picky about having an authentic experience and I have no idea what to do! When I say authentic, I mean he wants to eat like a local, do things locals do etc. He's even learning Turkish while we're here. Obviously we are tourists but he wants to experience Turkey like any Turkish person would.

He likes: grilled meats especially lamb, tea, coffee, light sweets/dessert, rice, kebab

He does not like: baklava (I know-insane), tourists (ironic lol), things locals would never do.

This is really important to him! It's his 25th birthday and Turkey is his dream destination. Any and all advice appreciated.

PS: I've asked on the designated forum already but not satisfied with the answer :(

No virtual interview

I applied for a job 2 months back and got a rejection email. A few weeks ago they reached out saying that actually the team was interested in me and gave me an assessment to do. Two days later I get a call from the recruitment team and the guy says they were really impressed with my work and want to have an interview one week from now. I explained that I am on holiday at the moment and so a virtual interview would be better. He contacted the team and the boss said no; they want an in-person interview. Mind you in a previous email they said I could get either an in-person or a remote interview.

He said he'll contact me closer to when I'm back. Welp I won't be back for like another two months. Obviously if I got the job I would make arrangements to be back immediately! Plus my grandmother passed recently and I also booked a flight home so I could see my family (couldn't go during my exams).

Feeling down because I even tried calling him back, left a voicemail and follow up email asking if he could contact me so I could better explain my situation. But no response... and I made 7 applications for this firm in the last three years, 4 of which were this year.

Is there any shelf stable sticky toffee pudding?

I am visiting London and I am absolutely in love with sticky toffee pudding. I have to travel well over 20 hours to get back home and I want to take some with me. I've only seen ones that need to be refigerated. Are there any good shelf-stable sticky toffee puddings?
