Canadian companies selling through Spotify

Shopify is a terrible company with the worst CEO (Tobi Lutke - look him up) who supports Nazis, and believes pensioners should be stripped of voting rights and the wealthy should have greater rights. I digress…

As a Canadian I am trying to migrate to Canadian products or at least away from American companies. This week alone, I placed two larger orders to these companies and BOTH charged my transactions using Shopify (with their new purple logo rebrand “Shop”). I’m disgusted.

One of the orders was for Marcelle Cosmetics and Lise Watier products from Quebec.

The other was Australian company Glamrdip.

I emailed both companies to ask them why Shopify, but neither responded.

Feels impossible for us to stop shooting ourselves in the foot.

Amazon would not honour Amazon’s own documented promise

So I needed an item and when shopping it said there was free delivery. When added to the cart it added on delivery. I struggled for 15 minutes to reach someone in chat, and they noted the discrepancy and told me to place the order and call back again for an agent to give me a credit back for it.

I’m guessing you know where this is going. I immediately finish shopping for the related items I needed to go with it and place the order. I again call back referencing the convo. The next agent first erroneously describes a different item causing the delivery fee (which was a free delivery item) and then is convinced by me that its the original item causing the issue. Then she says she sees the chatlog of my prior convo and the promise to credit me back, but that the original agent made a mistake and they can not credit back a third party vendor’s fee. I asked for an escalation and she refused. I explained that it was Amazon who promised me a credit for the fee, and she still refused to give me a credit. We are talking about a $15 credit here on a $200 order.

I explained to her that not only would I be cancelling this whole order, but that I would stop being an Amazon customer over her decision. She was 100% on board.

I only ordered what I could not get locally, but still manage to spend thousands a year. Guess I will be going on more shopping trips out of town, and cancelling Amazon Music!
