New changes when applying for jobs internally

With the new career hub, the job applications are now asking for your managers name and email address before you submit your application. Anyone know if this means your manager will get an email every time you apply for a position? I know in the past your manager was only notified when you were selected for an interview. Is this still the case?

The PS5 lifecycle will likely be extended. So what does that mean for most of us exactly?

Historically for PS consoles, major AAA gaming and first-party support for a console lasts about 1-2 years beyond the launch of the next console. If you consider games like sports titles and mass appeal games like Call of Duty, that timeline extends to about 5-7 years beyond the launch of the new console.

Giving a ton of current factors, such as the ram shortage and AI causing hardware prices to skyrocket, the cost of living outpacing wage increases and people generally being strapped for money, and the PS6 looking to be a hard sell to the masses with it likely being a $1000+ machine, I fully expect the life-cycle of the PS5 to be extended quite a bit. Wouldn’t be surprised with 2-3 years of AAA support beyond the PS6 launching, and who knows how long for other titles. If the PS6 comes out in 2028, we could EASILY be looking at getting major releases for the PS5 into the early 2030s and definitely beyond for your Maddens and Call of Duty’s.

And yet, Sony is telling you that you won’t be able to purchase any games on a disc after January 2028. They released 2 models of the PS5. The overwhelming majority of consumers knowingly and intentionally spent extra money for a console that was only more expensive because it had a disc drive. They spent this extra money on that particular model SPECIFICALLY to have the option to play discs. And we are looking at potentially years and years of game releases that just will not be able to be played in the way that you spent extra money for.

If the PS6 doesn’t have a disc drive, that’s on Sony to make that call and they are within their right to do so. But to take that option away from PS5 owners after selling them a product at an upcharge, when that uncharge existed purely for the ability to play discs? What a scumbag company.

Importance of Masters Degree for certain positions?

I started my career at LM almost a year ago with a Computer Engineering bachelors. Got hired on in Test Engineering but wanting to pivot more into AI/ML roles. How much would having a Masters benefit me in this? Some job postings have a Masters listed under desired skills, some postings don’t mention it at all. I‘ve been doing the AI/ML course through LMU for a few months now and find the concepts a lot more interesting than what I‘m doing in Test. Trying to find a good fit for myself at LM and not just settle in to the first opportunity I was given.

Finally hit the milestone!

Hitting this a little later in life that I had hoped (36). This time last year my net worth was around $40k. But a career change in 2025 and good investments has more than doubled my net worth in one year. Getting to the next $100k should hopefully be a much, much shorter road.

What to expect after derogatory account removal?

Extremely annoying and unfortunate situation here. I am 36 with a spotless credit history. Had a credit score of 817 until some clueless moron I talked to on the phone while canceling my Spectrum internet ensured me I wouldn’t have to pay the new higher price (that I was specially canceling to avoid paying) if I canceled before a certain date (which I did).

Never got a bill in the mail. Never got a single phone call or any communication whatsoever from Spectrum about a late payment. Had no clue I apparently owed them money that I was specifically told I wouldn’t have to pay until I checked my credit score and saw it dropped to 682 with a derogatory account added to my report with Spectrum sending the bill to collections.

Immediately called Spectrum about it and remained polite. They told me I owed them $105 and I told them I would pay it right then and there. They assured me the derogatory account would be removed.

So what can I expect once it’s removed? Something tells me my score isn’t just going to shoot back up to over 800 like nothing happened. Almost two decades of working hard to keep my credit spotless only for it to be crushed by some lying scummy internet provider that told me I didn’t have to pay, and then didn’t communicate with me at all once it was overdue.
