Second Rug Pull
I lost my job as a technical PM in July. I've been through all of the ghosting from consulting firms who said I'm "perfect" for whatever role they refer me for.
I had one employer stop talking to me because they said 45 minutes is too long for me to commute (my previous commute was 2 hours) and wanted me to sell my house, with a 2.75% mortgage rate and move to their shitty small town in this market.
Then I had another put me through a series of interviews and whiteboard sessions and said they really liked me, then kept scheduling interviews. I was up to 7 before they confessed they had another candidate and couldn't make the decision. After the 9th they told both of us that they decided they didn't want a PM anymore, sorry. I actually know someone who knows the other person and confirmed they told him the same thing.
I finally got an offer for someplace close to home through a contract firm as a contract to hire. I accepted and went through the background check and a drug test for some reason. All good. Then I was told at the last second that the employer decided to put the position on hold just before I started. I turned down another interview after I accepted this job and now I can't get back into the mix.
I have two weeks of severance left now.
What the actual fuck is happening? This isn't my first rodeo but I can't get over how unprofessional everything has become. I've already accepted I'm going to have to take a $40K pay cut, but why do these companies keep pulling jobs back?
