Standby Offer

IFR YEG March 2027. I know it’s unlikely to convert until the following class, but nonetheless feels good to have made it.

It’s been a really neat experience. Every other job I’ve applied for it’s this sort of “sell yourself” interview/resume. Here you know they think you’ve got it based on (mostly, anyways) objective criteria.

Still more hoops to go. Hopefully I can find a CAME that can certify by then.

Resignation Timelines

I’m at a director level position in my organization. They have been nothing but wonderful to me and I am trying to leave on the best terms possible. At the same time, I’m not naive and I know that the most important thing is $$$ and who’s up next for my position.

With that said, I’d like to provide ample notice. Have the opportunity to introduce my team to who’s taking over, show them the ropes, etc. The person I took over for did that for me and it was a really positive experience, granted he retired.

My question is this: how much notice can I provide and still be covered for payment during? For instance, if I give 6 weeks notice in writing and they fill my spot and say see ya later, would I be entitled to wages for the period between my notice date and when they let me go? How far can I push that (ex 90 days)?

Appreciate any advice. I’ve worked with these people for 15 years and am trying to do the right thing while covering my own ass.

HD Canada - Local Pros

I need a full roof replacement. I’ve used HD for hot water tanks, appliances, etc and have always used my HD credit card. Love the no interest periods. But those services have been installers, and the roofers are local pros.

My question is this - can I pay a local pro with my HD CC? If I can’t directly, is there an option to buy the materials from HD and pay the labour (plus whatever mark up, I get it) directly to the local pros? It’s really unclear on the website.

I don’t want to take out a loan or eat 20% interest on another CC. I can pay this off in 18 months.
