Konami permanently revoked access to my legally purchased Metal Gear Survive because my PSN account was created in Russia 15 years ago
Hi everyone,
I'm posting this because I'm genuinely trying to understand whether anyone else has experienced the same issue or maybe solved issues of their own with companies that are related.
I pre-ordered Metal Gear Survive back in 2018 on PS4 and have owned the game ever since.
Recently, Konami permanently revoked access to the game for PlayStation accounts that were created in Russia or Belarus. I contacted their support, and they confirmed that this restriction is permanent and cannot be changed.
Here's the problem:
My PSN account was created in Russia over 15 years ago.
I haven't lived in Russia for many years.
PlayStation does not allow users to change the region of an existing PSN account.
Despite no longer living in Russia, Konami still considers my account "associated with Russia" solely because of where it was originally created and there are no way to change it jsut cause PSN won't let me do that.
As a result, I completely lost access to a game that I legally purchased.
What surprised me the most is that I can't even play the single-player mode anymore. The game simply won't let me in because of this restriction.
I understand companies sometimes restrict online services due to legal or business reasons, but permanently locking someone out of an already purchased game based on the original registration region of a 15 y.o. account-even after they've moved abroad-doesn't seem reasonable to me.
I've already contacted Konami and PlayStation "support" if we can even call it that, because other then poorly functioning chat bot there is no live agents or working emails that could let me contact anyone of them. Had to use the only one that seems to be working and it is a tech support of Malta region.
Has anyone else been affected by this?
Has anyone managed to get their access restored or received any meaningful response from Konami or PlayStation?
Thanks in advance.
