Starting with metal gear rising

29 years old, owned every PlayStation since I was around 4/5, but being a young lad the gameplay just never appealed to me on the PS1 so just never got round to ever playing any of the MSG games. Seen a few videos of gameplay of MGR and it reminded me of Devil May cry so I thought I’d give it a try on my Steam deck! Looking forward to jumping in and seeing how it plays.

Revisiting Metal Gear Solid 2 After 20 Years — My View of the Raiden Twist Completely Changed

I first played Metal Gear Solid 2 as a kid, and at the time I didn’t really understand what Kojima was trying to do. I replayed the demo constantly and just assumed the full game would be all Snake… so when Raiden showed up, it completely threw me.

Back then, I mostly focused on the stealth and the technical jump from the first game. The story choices felt strange, even confusing. But revisiting it as an adult, the whole thing hits completely differently.

The way the game plays with expectations, the way Raiden mirrors the player, and especially the themes about information control and digital manipulation — all of it feels way more relevant now than it ever did in 2001.

Genuinely curious to hear about how others felt about it at the time and now in hindsight.

My new Demo is out! It's like a "Reverse Metal Gear"

We have Metal Gear at home.

My new Demo is out... scared of course, but here's my attempt to pimp it to my friends family, and reddit is here and I'm doing it!

Here is the link to the trailer for Burn-9: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSntOAVgcks

Burn-9 is the name of the game! It's a cool 'reverse metal gear' where you play as the techie in the chair! You finally get to be the one NOT having adventures. Haven't you always wanted that?

I've been working in games for like 25 years, and every now and then I try and make my own, this is one of those times. I've written for Dontnod, Telltale, Silver Volition, heck I did the English localization and other script fix ups on Robocop Rouge city!

So, you should check my stuff out. I'm very cool?

And of course the demo can be played/wishlisted on steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4377480/Burn9/

Custom Snake and Gray Fox from Metal Gear Solid

Gray Fox is based on the 1000toys synthetic human and I've repainted the figure. Custom 3D printed head makes it complete. Figure could use some more bulk but this will do for now!

Snake only has a custom head on him, the rest is just the Figma 2.0. The original head isn't bad but I like this one better

All customizing done by me

Do you think every time Raiden watches a submarine warfare movie, his first instinct is always "I could end that conflict by suplexing the submarine"?

You know, it only occurs to me over 20 years later. WHY, didn't Olga even Try to bring the Mr.X Cyber suit to confront Solidous? What made her think just showing up this way was better?

Should I wait for Master Collection Vol 2?

Over the last year, I’ve been playing through the metal gear series in release order. Just finished chapter 5 in peace walker and I want to move on to mgs4. Do you think it would be worth it to just wait for Vol 2 to release or is there enough unique things in the ps3 version to warrant playing that version instead. I’ve seen some leaks on the remaster and it seems like they’re paying special attention to those unique things special to the ps3 version rather than cutting them entirely

Is Snake blonde?

Liquid snake is blonde. And Solid snake on the briefing of MGS for ps1 is as well.

He only differs from liquid because he cut his hair at the end of the briefing

Made myself a launcher in the PS1 Metal Gear solid stye. Yes the taskbar popping up kills me.

Decided it would be fun to have the metal gear solid inventory to launch my most used programs. Uses png and a config.json for easy updates/customisation.

(WINDOWS ONLY)
For those wanting here is the link to download the executable. No install. Put it wherever you want. Only 10MB for the executable itself.

metal-gear-rust-0.1.0
metal-gear-rust-0.1.1 - added better font

And the github link for the tech savvy

Did Kojima take inspiration from Simon Le Bon when designing Kaz?

I was listening to some Duran Duran songs and noticed that Simon Le Bon in the A View To A Kill music video looks surprisingly similar to Kaz (minus the suit, aviator sunglasses, and cane, ofc).

Now I'm wondering if this was intentional on Kojima's (or Yoji Shinkawa's, the character designer) part or just a coincidence. Has Kojima or anyone from the MGSV team ever mentioned anything about this?
