"Like yeah, does the mizzy need some adjusting, absolutely! But its way harder to find and mostly I only see it like every other game on cryo. Honestly the mizzy is not as bad simply due to how rare it is but it takes all the attention from the battlepistol which I see every single fight now and it overshadows what I think is the bigger problem with marathons balance and is likely a bigger cause for the lOw PlAyeR cOUnT than any other issue plaguing the game right now"

I couldn't believe they would actually jump down into the big hallway of death, but they all did one at a time 🫪

Whoever team this was, thank you for the donation but man I'd be so pissed at the first guy and the second guy and then myself holy hell.

"I'm tired of snipers dominating at range on dire marsh and think weapons like the bully need a range buff"

That's how some of you sound describing the shotgun issue on cryo, it's a shotgun, I get wanting a more flavorful variety of weapons on all maps but your crazy if you think every weapon will perform equally as well at the ' I can smell your breath' ranges that your engaging.

There are changes that should be made but they need to be more thoughtful than kill all shotguns cause I don't have as many as chad

the only way it would make sense for an SMG to out perform the shotgun is if you could move and jump in a way that allowed you to constantly hit the shotgun player while they miss a critical shot allowing you to put dps them. That is not the case, so what can you do to avoid face tanking a player.

Thief drone. While its not a recon scan, a recon scan only tells you where that squad is at, a thief drone can tell you what weapons they are using.

Destroyer shield. If you would be less conservative with your abilities this can come in clutch when pieing that corner you suspect has a team waiting around it, this will allow you and your team to pull back and dip which brings me to my next thing.

Assume misriah: truth is you won't know till your in misrah range most of the time anyway so assume misriah and play around that assumption.

Only engage at your chosen range: assuming you did everything I said you now have this choice and can employ it. Still even after one pick , 2 missies and a few chaotic missed shots on your end will still spell the death of you, defenders advantage is real and good so try not to get to cocky about your push, also maybe don't get push without a plan to use some kind of utility to aid you.

Don't fight!! Truth is even if you do what I'm saying you'll still get caught out, the most successful people I play w simply rotate rotate rotate and have only the intention of getting the loot and getting out which is what the game wants you to do, that's THE POINT of the map I think perhaps somewhat incidentally, is that it's the loot and the getting out that matters more, rotating away and avoiding the enemies will have your vault full w unique golds and accumulating subroutines which you can use to fight later. Even when you know clever flanks often youl run into a third party on the way to that flank so the safer option is almost always that fighting is at best a tool to

Get a pick

Slow the team down

Get your loot while they're waiting for your push

Extract.

Tldr: In the meantime, the conversation around this weapon balance is too brain dead when the idea that a shotgun should dominate over another weapon type in that close of a range is not given it's due weight, thought should be first given to whether tactics are being appropriately utilized before considering nerfs and other ways of balancing the game should also be considered before considering simply nerfing the gun that beat you.

How well does the rog nuc play Marathon?

Anybody with a rog nuc play Marathon?/ How does it run?

I'm back to otr trucking and I want something to play Marathon because the steam deck just won't cut it (I checked, 25 FPS)

So I need to set up to play this game but I don't have anything, I'm considering this because it's small enough and I can pack it up when moving due to the bounce of the truck. We don't want any parts getting jostled by mounting it somewhere as cool as that would be, ideally, it obviously should work well, but I know that laptop components can be a little weird sometimes so I wanted to make sure.

Any other suggestions for PC hardware?

I have AT&t firstnet so I think hotspot should do just fine for casual rook runs and casual looting and shooting but we'll see, if I'm wrong. What would you suggest?

"Losing 50% of your player base after 4 to 5 weeks is normal" what haters and clickbaiters won't tell you?

Simple fact, most live service games that are successful, thrive, and live off of the tourist effect, basically this is where most people casually come in, play for a month, and then leave and move on to something shiny and new. This is true for destiny, this true for rainbow six siege, this is true for fortnite, none of these games kept concurrent player losses below 50% months on in. (Arc I think is a slight exception if have to go check) Nobody Whos feelings arent validated by this game however wants to focus on this. They only want to doom and gloom while not mentioning both success stories with similar games that had mid launches and unfavorable perspective from gamers (rainbow six siege will be the most famous example here) that came around after continued support from a developer which we're promised to get per the recent Sony report.

Now does that mean that Marathon has all the players it needs? Likely not and that's its real problem but it's actually in a pretty healthy and good place for continued growth and improvement over the long term. Honestly, it's worst thing is the confluence of feelings towards Bungie, bad press and all that. Also, I think that there is hurt feelings from people who don't thrive in this type of hardcore game. Hoping for the game to fail because they feel that making artistic decisions that market away from them should be punished rather than hoping for multitudes of games for a multitude to players to succeed.

Of the two two people who do me gloom on this game, I want to particularly call out LP flea, when analyzing whether its concurrent / player retention was good or healthy. LP ignores the history of other successful live service games and only points to Arc raiders successful launch where it temporarily gained players, days and weeks after its launch, quite the outlier as evidence for how poorly marathon is gotten. Short minds, short memories, no research and no history.

Paul Tassi does a similar thing in his recent video by saying that it's player retention is really bad, he's had positive examples of other successful live service games mentioned, he's had the tourist effect spoken to him, he's had all this explained to him, what's normal and what's to be expected a month or two after a live service game, and yeah, he still chooses to say that they are simply lying in the Sony report when that's just not true, perhaps he still has to sort through his feelings regarding a studio finally, not catering to what he likes after 2 to 3 decades of catering to him and his taste and deciding to spread their wings and go on a radically different direction gameplay wise and artistically. God forbid big studios Take chances on anything.

The game definitely still needs more players but it can grow these over time. Whether people will check in to see what the game has to offer over the multitude of seasons, I think it will take probably 2 years for this to bear fruit in a positive direction given the continued negative focus. Likely dampering people's curiosity towards the game a bit.

I think It'll have to hit that " okay, it's not going to get canceled. Let's see what all's changed since it came out" level of press that similar reach when they have continued long-term support long after people thought the game would be canceled or made free to play.

Tldr: Marathon could use some more players absolutely, but people are lying about player retention to maintain a negative narrative around the game and the game is in a healthier place than those people would have you believe.
