Another sitter has cancelled

When i started teaching again I had family that begged to watch my son while I worked but when the time came they kept cancelling for other family members so I couldn't rely on them for childcare. Yes, I offered to pay. I had a wonderful high school student who watched my son for a year and a half starting when he was a baby. She graduated and went to college. I had another college student who would take him to the park or library while I'm teaching. I've struggled to find any consistent childcare after that. My son is 3.5 now. I teach piano in person and online after school hours. I don't have family or friends who can help or aren't willing to help no matter how much I pay. Daycare is so expensive where I live. I haven't been filling lesson spots because I don't know if I will have childcare. I'm teaching so little right now. It's only 1.5-2 hours daily. Do you think I could make that work keeping my son with me? I could try to do his nap a little later so he sleeps during some of my lessons. I'm still looking for maybe a teen to help. I just love teaching so much and I've had my students for years. I never knew it would be this difficult to find any childcare. Any suggestions on entertaining my son during that time frame? I feel like it's a short enough time frame to figure something out.

Advicr for some of my toddlers behaviors

I'd usually post this in my private moms group on facebook since it feels little more personal but i'm having issues with facebook.

I'm waiting on a call from OT and we'll see if they can offer some guidance.

I'm struggling with some behaviors from my son. I'm definitely researching parenting techniques but want input from other parents.

Loudness/screaming has been a big one lately. If we tell him he needs to be quiet he will get louder. He yells to get people's attention even when we're sitting right beside him. He will randomly scream. His hearing has been checked so there's no issues there. We can't do things like storytime at the library becsuse he's loud the whole time so we have to leave. sometimes we're in situations we can't leave like the grocery store.

Trying to run off and throwing himself on the ground when I try to hold his hand. He won't stand or walk beside me most times unless I'm holding his hand. He will just drop to the ground when I'm holding his hand and refuse to walk.

If he has something he wants to do he will make random noises/animal noises/babble over me when I try to talk to him. We were at the park and he ran off to a spot he wasn't supposed to be at. I tried to lean down to look him in the eyes and talk to him but be just loudly made animal sounds and other randomness over me while I tried to talk so we went home. That's our rule. If you're not going to listen then we go home.

Pushing and kicking. If he's walking somewhere and focused on it he will push anyone to get around them. We've told him to say excuse me. We've modeled it for him. I've told him if he pushes we're going home. Kicking doesn't happen very often but it's feels very random so I don't know when it's going to happen. He doesn't kick hard. It's almost like he's trying to play? I'm wondering if maybe he's overstimulated and that's why? Same with pushing if he kicks we go home.

We do timeouts but he doesn't really care. He'll wait out the timer and then do the same thing again. I try to not repeat myself. You throw a toy it's gone. You throw your snack it goes up. You don't listen and we leave the situation. I just really struggle with situations where there's no physical item like putting a toy up. What do I do about behaviors like loudness, not listening, running? I want to be able to take him to fun places and do fun things. I'm hoping maybe it's just a phase but I want to make sure I'm handling situations appropriately to help him.

I'm open to all advice. I've been reading books, blogs, listening to podpodcasts. I want to do whatever is best for my son to help him to thrive.

What do you when you have free time?

I work part time and the rest of the time I'm home with my son. I don't have many friends and no family where I live. I usually do things just me and my son. My husband works nights so I do a lot of the parenting during the week. He's been encouraging me to do something for me when he's home on the weekends, either at the house or go do something. The few friends I do have work full time and spend time with their children on the weekends so anything I left the house to do would be by myself. Since I have some free time on the weekends I'm trying to figure out something to do. What would do you like to do? I feel like I've been so focused on my son that I'm not even sure what I like doing to relax anymore. I could go to some thrift shops. I do like to read. What hobbies do you have? I'm all for trying something new.

Thoughts on a Heat Storm Wi-Fi Infrared Wall Heater?

I have a 10x10 shed and I already have a window AC unit around and I'm trying to decide about heat. I'm looking at a Heat Storm Infrared Wall Heater. It would be running unattended. Are those considered safe? I'm not running to spend a ton because the space is so small but needs to be climate controlled.

Replacing floor in shower

I'm at my wits end with my shower. It looked ok when we moved into our house but it got moldy very quickly and when we tried to clean the shower the caulk around the edges just came right off. We tried to reseal the edges but it's just so moldy. It's a tile and there's cracks. The tiles aren't level and it's extremely hard to clean. I'm just done with it. I'm planning to pull it up because I want to check the moisture barrier underneath and make sure everything is good.

I really want to replace the shower floor. What would be my cheapest option right now? My shower is a weird shape unfortunately. I can save up for something better later but I need at least a temp fix now. I'm ripping the tiles up this weekend whether I have something to replace them with or not. I don't do mold.

Where are you buying and selling teaching materials and supplies?

I don't know if this is the best place to ask, but I'm looking for somewhere to sell my teaching supplies. I used to use a Facebook page for selling materials but it's pretty dead these days. I don't want to use Etsy anymore. I try to keep my prices lower to help teachers but still make a tiny bit. I'm saving up for some extra piano repairs outside the usual yearly maintenence.

I make music thery themed buttons, custom music clips with names, piano coins for prizes, magnets, game pieces, puzzles. All kinds of stuff. Any suggestions?

Also if you buy materials, where are you buying them from? I'm always looking for new materials too.

Son acts out when babysitter is here

My son will usually just play outside for hours. I have to drag him in. I have a sitter that comes over and plays outside with him for 1- 1.5 hours while I'm teaching piano or just getting some other work done. Sometimes they hang out in the playroom. Lately he's has just been acting wild when she comes over. She had to come and get me. He was trying to pull my hair, push on my face, kick, etc. He was running off, throwing stuff, acting wild. Like what the heck? It's been getting worse lately and she's a good sitter. She tells him no. Doesn't let him do stuff he's not supposed to. I just don't know where this is coming from and he can't be acting like that. He has a good nap before she's here. I always play with him to try to tire him out a little. He used to sit and eat snack and watch a movie with the sitter some days but won't calm down long enought to even have a snack now. He just spits it so we had to stop snacks. I have no idea what's going on but I really need him watched for a little while in the afternoons. Any suggestions? Our routine is the same. We don't have a lot of screen time. We eat healthy. He does get overstimulated in groups but usually does great one on one with people. I try to do something calming before the sitter gets here. I'm just not sure how to best help hi. If feels like it came out of nowhere. We are waiting on a referral for OT but it could be months before we get in. Any ideas?

Socializing with cats in my yard

I'm not sure if this is the correct sub for my question. A cat had kittens in my shed. I tried to catch some of them but they disappeared pretty quickly except for one kitten. I brought her in and had her for around a year. She passed unexpectedly though. I never saw her mom or the kittens again until recently. Her sibling has been hanging around my house lately and I put a trap out with food but she hasn't gone near it. Today I noticed her in my backyard with a kitten! I'd love any tips on befriending her. I was playing with my toddler in the backyard and momma cat brought the kitten over pretty close and was watching us. If we walked towards her she ran to the other side of the yard. She came up on my porch and ate cat food I left out while I was sitting on the porch but the moment I moved at all she ran. We have a large cat population around here so my neighbor and I are helping get the neighberhood cats neutered. I wouldn't mind having her and the kitten as a pet but at the very least want to get her neutered. Any tips on getting her more comfortable with us? Any socialization tips? I still have plenty of food, treats and toys from my last cat.

Restaurant with no food options

I'll be going to a special Father's Day lunch at a restaurant with a set menu. All the foods are carb heavy and so are the sides. Only veggie side not potatoes was boiled eggplant and honestly I hate it. How big of a deal will it be if I just eat whatever that lunch and then make sure I go back to my low carb diet at my next meal.

Any tips for a teacher with carpal tunnel/arthritis/nerve issues?

As I've gotten older my hands have started to hurt so badly and are sometimes shaky, sometimes swell. I've been playing for 20+ years. I have a hard time playing fast because it's like my fingers just won't physically move that fast anymore. My pinky and sometimes my thumb shakes. I'm always careful about my technique so that shouldn't be a problem. My joints are just so stiff. Compression gloves help but also limit my range of mobility. I have stretches from my doctor that do help a little. Any other suggestions? Tape? Oils? Anything?

Attempted delivery

I ordered something that was fulfilled by walmart. It was shipped. I got an estimated delivery time. I tracked it in the app. Two minutes before the delivery time a car drives past my house slows down and drives off. Then it says attempted delivery and they would try again. Support says the driver returned to the store and it would be redelivered. It hasn't been and they told me they don't have an option to cancel it when it says on the order page I can cancel.

I get to packages from Walmart delivered after that no problem.

This morning I do a grocery order. I'm tracking rhe car. It gets to my house, stops at my driveway, opens and door, shuts the door and drives off. I get attempted delivery message. What the heck is going on? I walk outside and theres nothing blocking my driveway. I tip well.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Medicine that might raise blood sugar

I recently saw on the warnings for slynd that it can raise blood sugar. My A1c is 5.7 right now. We're checking it again at my next appointment in September. I don't want it to get any higher. Do any of you take Slynd and noticed a difference in your blood sugar levels off it? I take it for multiple medical reasons though so I don't want to stop it if I don't need to.

What pill stops your period and doesn't raise blood sugar levels?

I currently take Slynd and love it has completely stopped my period. I haven't had a single period since the first month I started it. Unfortunately it is raising my blood sugar levels too much and I'm now prediabetic. I took Lo Loestrin for 10+ years and it never stopped my periods. I still had long painful ones but they were just on a schedule instead of all over the place. I stopped taking it when my blood pressure went up after a baby and I was switched to Slynd. I'm not interested in an IUD. What pills have you taken that stopped your periods?

Mini-split or window ac and heater?

I have a 10x10 shed I just bought. I'm going to store my supplies for my art business in there so it will need to be climate controlled. I'm near the mountains where it regularly drops below freezing and we get snow. How would you heat this? It needs to stay warm and I'm sure I'll be working in there some as well. I didn't know if it would be easier to get a used window AC and a heater. Are there safe heater options that aren't a mini-split? If a mini split is the best option, is there a lower cost one you could recommend? It's such a small shed I wouldn't think it would need much heat to keep warm.

I love teaching piano and in the years of doing so have created a lot of my own teaching materials. I sell some of my materials like buttons, 3d printed personalized music clips, music puzzles, magnets. I have an older upright Yamaha. It was my grandma's and the piano my mom was taught on. My grandma always had me play for her when I visited. It was left to me when she passed. I've been teaching on it for years. I'm looking to get a lot replaced. I'm looking at about $800 worth of work. That includes tuning, my regular maintenance, and replacing almost all of my keys. I don't want to get a new piano. Most free ones I've seen in my area need work and replacement parts. It still plays well. Would it be tacky for it to be made known that I'm raising money to fix the piano? Sell something related to my business where I let people know it will be going towards repairing the piano? I know my local music school held a big fundraiser recently for their baby grand but I'm just a private teacher, teaching kids in my home. Teaching is such a passion of mine and while my piano sounds fine now It keeps needing more and more things replaced. I would love to just get eveything fixed at once. What are you thoughts?
