suggestions for interesting things to do

I will be in Trieste in late August and early September for one week and am looking for suggestions for good non touristy restaurants. Also, are there any outdoor markets or hidden gems? Has anyone taken the ferry to Rovinj?

many thanks!

Staying in the 20th

It will be my second visit to Paris. The first involved arguing the entire time with a travel companion who did want to do anything....I have an air bnb booked in the 20th/11th in the charrone area. Anyone have thoughts on this? It is close to two metro stations and looks charming (it's Paris, after all). Like another person here, I am skipping the Louvre, and thinking that over four days I will go to musee d'orsay, take a boat cruise on the Seine, see Monmartre, and go to Parc Bellville and Pere LaChaise. I haven't scheduled my days at all yet. I plan to also walk around quartier latin and the Marais of course. ...Suggestions? Last time I saw Champs Elysees, outside of the Louvre, Notre Dame (pre fire), and the Eiffel Tower (there was a strike so did not go up it). I heard people say the 20th is sketchy but it looks pretty gentrified to me. I will be alone for part of the trip and have four days in total.

swimming barcola

I will be travelling on my own to Trieste late this summer. I'd like to go swimming at the barcola (in the Barcola?) but am wondering if I leave my belongings while in the water if they will be safe.... anyone have any experience with this?

grazie!

is "on accident" actually correct now?

Apparently the young folks are using it. I've never heard it until recently I overheard someone by accident. is it seen as the opposite of "on purpose"?

mirror writing/upside down writing

mirror writing/upside down writing

did anyone else write everything upside down and then turn the paper around? I had some vision issues so I am not sure if this was why I did it. In kindergarten this was how I wrote my name....got sent to (and sent back to "regular" class) special ed for this. . . . is it a lefty thing? I can still do it easily and can read upside down too.

refried beans at cafe mexico

how would I make refried beans like the ones at cafe mexico? I don't even like beans but those are amazing. They must puree them and maybe they add chicken stock? anyone have any ideas?

ride share and taxis -why so much cologne

I don't have a car so I use taxis and Uber often. Why do the drivers love cologne so much? I can taste it and my eyes burn. I immediately have to put the window down. It's overwhelming and triggers a bad headache. I have taken to thanking those who do not douse themselves in it.
