I need to find a flexible left handed tape measure, but I cant find anything.

hello, I recently got a new job at a post office and im struggling with the right handed measuring tape. I been looking for a right to left read one in metric, but that does not seem to be a thing that is flexible. I was curious if anyone has one and were they got it, amazon is pulling up no results, and i'm going insane at work trying to read numbers upside down.

Letter strokes guidance for left-handers at school

I went to school late 70s, and at that time there was no guidance on letter strokes (neither for right-handers or left-handers). Our teacher was right-handed, so she was using the right-handed strokes on the board. I had to figure out myself how to write: tilt paper 40 degrees to the right, hold pen below writing line and figure out the letter strokes. I write most horizontal lines right-to-left (with only a few exceptions, like Z) and a lot of circles clockwise, when possible.

Apparently, these days there is guidance both for right-handers and left-handers. I realised that I am mostly aligned with it, apart from the circles. Strangely enough, while the initial guidance for left-handers was to write circles clockwise, they have changed it in recent years to anti-clockwise. But they are stressing that this is just guidance (both for right-handers and left-handers) and there is no "correct" way. Each kid is free to draw the letters as they prefer.

I am curious if such guidance exists in other countries and other alphabets / writing systems?

How many of you have injured your left hand and how did you adapt?

So I got an injury on my middle finger of my left hand and it got a nasty infection. Now I can barely use my left hand. It hurts all the time. How many of you have had something like this and how did you adapt to using your non dominant hand?

For the lefties who light up...

..which hand do you use for what?

Most of us, if not all, in some capacity, have learned to use our right hand for day-to-day things. Whether it's because we were shown that way, or the item was only available in a right-handed option, or it just felt more natural.

I'm no exception. I do things right-handed about 40% of time maybe. And it never consciously occurs to me that I'm doing something right-handed until I go to do something else that I happen to do left-handed. If that makes sense.

Another observation:

As we all know, the text/logo on just about every utensil/tool meant to be held in one's hand is usually upside-down/backward when held in the left hand.

I was having a couple puffs after work, as one does, and I realized that the print on the chillum was right side up (in my left hand). I thought, "Whoa, that NEVER happens!"

And it made me wonder if, after 30years of smoking, I am just now realizing I smoke right-handed?? 🤷🏼‍♀️. I switched hands (lighter in left..pipe in right) and it was super uncomfortable.

Just curious what my fellow southpaw smokers had to say.

No Ambidextrous user flair?

I joined this sub bc I'm ambidextrous but like either way I put my user flair I'm technically lying. I'm not lefty, I'm not righty.

Is it true left-handed people were "punished" in school by having their left hand tied behind their back?

As a left handed myself, I've heard several stories of my mom remembering her experience as a left-handed person. How her mom approved the administration to enforce this horrendous practice on her. She's now right-handed, but says she definitely remembers writing with her left at a young age.

Has anyone else that went to school during the 60's - 80's experience this as well?

I can't imagine how much unnecessary shame a kid would carry back then for simply being born differently based partially on genetics.

How many traders here are left-handed?

I'm a lefty. They say only 1% of traders are successful and that got me wondering what % of that 1% are left handed. If any. I dunno why, just curious.

Recently got a used acoustic guitar. Have you all found it easier to learn right handed or is it better to restring it for a southpaw?

I’m sure answers will vary, but I was curious and all left handed guitarists were too busy to respond.

Shame about being left handed

Indian 17 F. I was born left-handed, but growing up I was beaten and forced to write with my right hand by teachers and also by some of my relatives. Over time I learned to write right-handed, but it never felt natural.

I’ve tried many times to switch back to using my left hand, but I have a lot of fear and shame attached to it. I know it sounds silly, but I feel as though something bad will happen to my family if I write with my left hand. It ruins my day.

When I’m not paying attention, I naturally do many things with my left hand. I scroll on my phone with my left hand, pick things up with my left hand, and generally seem to default to it. But as soon as I notice, I force myself to switch to my right because I’m scared.

I’m wondering if anyone else here grew up being punished for being left-handed. Have any of you managed to become comfortable using your left hand again? I’d really like to feel free to use the hand that feels natural without feeling guilty or afraid. 🥲🥲

Thank you for reading.

Who wears jewelry on their right arm if they're a lefty? I wear Kandi a lot and I'm constantly wearing it on my right arm because I'm left handed and it's less distracting. The rule is though is anything you want to trade goes on your right arm and anything you don't is on your left.

Any left-handed pet nail clippers?

I cannot find leftie pet nail clippers. I volunteer at the local ferret shelter and cut the nails of about 70 ferrets one day every month. The nails fly in my face because they're made for right-handed people, and I can't find any nail clippers that are designed to not do that. When my right-handed husband cuts nails, they don't fly in his face. However, I want to keep cutting them because I'm faster at it.

Does anyone know of small nail clippers that have the blades in the leftie position? They need to look somewhat like this to be safe for them.
