Freshly installed Arch Linux on my 2nd computer !

As a Debian main, I've always wanted to have Arch Linux on my 2nd PC to have a "lab test" to safely test the latest software or do DE-hopping without mess up my Debian on my 1st PC. I've already install Arch on a VM, but now I wanted do install Arch for real. Now it's finally installed !!! Special mentions to my Windows 11 which wasn't cooperative AT ALL , I struggled to shrink its partition to install Arch next to it.

How could I win danger 5 with wand and torch ?

I just can't. Every attempt on danger 5 with wand or torch, I failed, even with will o wisp item or mage. I can't imagine these weapons on nightmare difficulty ! Burn just don't deal enough damage or is it a skill issue ? Even with flute or screwdriver which are weak weapons, I've completed d5 with them, but with wand and torch I struggled. Any advice to beat d5 with these weapons ?

It's been 1 month I use Debian, and it's so good.

It's been 1 month I use Debian, and it's so good. Although this distro is designed and optimized for a server usage, I use Debian for a casual desktop usage (e-mailing, printing, web browsing) I searched a distro which don't break and which requires a bit more knowledge than beginner-friendly distro (Ubuntu, Mint ... ) to force me to use the terminal and improve my Linux knowledge, and Debian was the perfect candidate. Fedora could be a great option but I don't trust RH since their controversial choices.

I don't mind the packages are a bit old, I prefer a bit old system but near unbreakable than a rolling release which breaks at first update because of some unstable packages.

For now I'm satisfied with Debian. I use it with KDE desktop and it's so great ! I use it daily instead of Windows 11. (although I keep Windows 11 as backup or for gaming). For the rest, I use Debian and it's so much better !

I've read "Until I become Me" which has similar vibes as Onii-chan wa Oshimai, what do you think ? I like both personally.

I've read "Until I become Me" and I'm surprised this manga has same vibes and themes as Onimai.

There are spoilers below, don't read it if you plan to read "Until I become Me":

>!Like Onimai, this manga talks about self-improvement and identity too and more serious themes like bullying, guilt, regrets and redemption. Akira, the MC of this story became a girl due to a mysterious illness but it's permanent, Akira had no choice to live as a girl. But unlike Mahiro who is a good boy from the start, Akira was an asshole who bullied girls when he was a boy, but fortunately since he became a girl and when he met Rumi (who is equivalent of Momiji i.e. best friend) he started to become a much better person and start to regret his past, although he was traumatised what he had done when he was a bully. Akira, like Mahiro is lost between the boy he was and the girl he became, he doesn't know if he is attracted to boys or girls. Like Mahiro, Akira has the support of his friends and his family (not his father though) to face his new life as a girl. There is also yuri vibes with Akira and Rumi ! I wonder if Onimai inspired this manga.!<

Although this manga has its wholesome moments like Onimai, the plot is more serious (especially the first chapters which are darker) and there is bittersweet moments and mild drama, although it isn't too sad or tragic.

I liked "Until I become Me" it's a good manga with a good plot, but Onimai is better in my opinion, Onimai is just my comfort place, his plot is a bit more superficial but it's lighthearted, whloesome, dramaless and very funny to read.

If you liked Onimai, you should give a try to this manga, it's worth it.

My recent experience with VMs on Linux :

I'm not objective obviously, but I have a feeling my VMs run better with QEMU/KVM rather than Virtualbox

I'm trying to install Arch on a VM for training/learning purposes. I'm not sure is my partition table is correct. The VM is on BIOS mode. Do I need a boot partition on BIOS mode ?

Should I install Linux on my mother's PC rather than Windows 11 with the end of support of Windows 10 ?

My mom's PC is currently on Windows 10, but in October 2026 will be the end of support Win 10 and she have to upgrade her PC to Windows 11 soon. Her PC is a HP laptop with a Pentium 2.3 GHz CPU and 8 GB of RAM. Windows 11 might struggle a bit to run with these specs, so I think it is a better idea to install a Linux system instead to keep her PC fast. But is it a good idea ? My mother is 54 years old, so she struggles a bit to use a PC. I'm afraid she doesn't unterstand at all to use a Linux system, even if I install a easy-to-learn distro like Ubuntu or Linux Mint. She uses her PC essentially to read/send e-mail and print papers for administrative purposes. She will be lost if she switches to a non-Windows environnement. Should I do it or should I stay her on Windows 10/11 ?

Issues with text-to speech when I use terminal. How I mute it permanently ?

I have some issues with text-to-speech when I use a terminal. Every time I boot or each time I open tty2 to tty6, the text-to-speech start to speak. It's maybe because I have installed Debian with the text-to-speech terminal installer ? (I'm on Debian 13 stable by the way) I'm suprised it remains active even after the installation. I know I can mute it by pressing "print screen" on my keyboard, but it's temporary. If I reboot the system, it will start to speak again and I have to press on print screen again. How can I mute the text-to-speech permanently ?

I want to use KDE desktop. What are the best linux distros to run KDE ?

I search a distro for a casual utilisation (and a bit of gaming if possible) which has KDE desktop.

I also want to avoid corpo distros like Ubuntu or Fedora, I'm not interested on telemetry features or Ubuntu's snaps.

Any suggestions ?

I've discovered recently "About a College Girl Who Gets Picked Up at a Mixer by an Older Girl" Oh my gosh it was so wholesome and heartwarming !

I've discovered recently "About a College Girl Who Gets Picked Up at a Mixer by an Older Girl" and oh my gosh, it's so adorable ! Everything is so wholeseome and fluffy. The two MCs Rika and Natsuko are absolute GOAT, especially Natsuko. I thought the age gap may be cringe at first, but their lovey-dovey relationship is just so cute. And the "suggestive" dialogues sometimes are the cherry on top. Too bad each chpater is only a few pages long, I finished all chapters too quickly 😞

I've heard a little complaints there isn't a progressive build up in their relationship and there is a lack of a main plot, but I don't mind. I'm in a bad mood recently and at first I've searching really painful and depressing anime to watch but instead, I've rather search positive and wholesome stories to read instead. Months ago I've asked recommandations of cute yuri stories, and I just forgot to read them. And recently I read this manga which one of these recommandations, and I was in a better mood after reading it.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who serach a cute and dramaless story.

I'm just pissed of Windows 11, this is so mediocre : very RAM unfriendly, terrible UI design, lack of customisation, lack of privacy, annoying forced upadates which always come at unfortunate times. It's been a while I haven't used Linux and I want to go back from Windows to Linux. But I learned the latest version of Ubuntu requires 6 GB of RAM ! With only 8 GB of RAM, it will be as laggy as Windows. Should I go on Ubuntu 26.04, or is there better RAM and resources friendly alternatives Linux distros ?
