What do you think happens to Ozai later in life?
Well, as we know, Zuko visited Ozai a few times in The Promise to ask for advice. But what I've always wondered is what happened much later, like 30–40 years down the line.
What happened when Ozai got old and frail? Would Zuko just let him die in prison? Or would it be more of a "forgive but don't forget" kind of thing?
I feel like Ursa/Iroh (?) would've wanted Zuko to show him at least a little mercy in his final days/weeks. Not necessarily set him free, but maybe let him spend his last days somewhere more like hospice than a prison cell. Then again, maybe Ozai didn't even live that long. Who knows what taking away someone's bending does to them longterm.
And what about Zuko? How would he feel when the time came? Sad? Nothing at all? Relief? I wonder if he'd see things differently by then, especially if he was already a father himself.
Would you want them to have one last conversation before Ozai died? Not a full reconciliation or anything, just one final talk between them.
