For some reason, 90% of the AOE attacks missed those three.

LEGEND OF MISHI

Story Mode Description: A young, proud woman from the wealthy Mi merchant clan. Even outmatched, outnumbered, and overpowered, her determination and bravery are second to none.

Introduction: 

I am Mi Shi, a daughter of the wealthy merchant clan that served Tao Qian, ruler of Xu. Not long after the land was rid of Yellow Turbans and the traitorous Dong Zhou, the warlord Cao Cao invaded our home. 

In our time of need, Liu Bei and his sworn brothers came and helped us drive out Cao Cao's army. Impressed by Liu Bei's valor and kindness, Lord Tao Qian passed on rulership of the lands of Xu to him. 

Before we could recover and find peace however, the treacherous Lu Bu took advantage of Liu Bei’s kindness and conquered Xu from within, kicking us out of our home. Now, we're being forced to work together with our old enemy Cao Cao to eliminate Lu Bu at Xia Pi Castle. While his help is necessary, I fear a man as ambitious as Cao Cao won't stop at just getting rid of our common foe. 

○ BATTLE OF XIAPI 

• Briefing - Mi Shi

“I can't believe Lu Bu would stoop so low as to betray our generosity and kick us out of our home! And now we're being forced to work with Lord Tao Qian’s enemy, Cao Cao!”

“Regardless, Xia Pi Castle is a formidable fortress with heavily defended bases to the south and west. Knowing Cao Cao, he most likely plans to use the river to flood the castle and wipe out Lu Bu's army all at once.”

“But that will cause massive damage to homes and crops! At this rate, the people will suffer and starve. Liu Bei, I don't want you to blame yourself for this tragedy. The fault lies entirely with that beast Lu Bu. And we'll make him pay for this.”

• Battle:

 

By default, Mi Shi will be her own independent unit stationed near Zhang Fei in the south with Mi Fang as her sub-officer & Mi Zhu as one of Liu Bei's sub-officers. Early into the battle, she urges Liu Bei & Zhang Fei to NOT help Cao Cao's forces capture the flood gates. Instead she wants Cao Cao & Lu Bu's forces to weaken each other while they attempt to infiltrate the castle to swiftly defeat Lu Bu, ending the battle as quickly as possible to prevent devastating the land with a flood.

Mi Shi will also have the chance to convince native officers of Xu Province in Lu Bu's ranks to defect against him to help the people they once protected from Cao Cao. Those who could potentially defect are Yin Li & Zang Ba if Mi Shi approaches them before the flood attack occurs. 

If the floodgates are forced open to defeat Lu Bu, Mi Shi will apologize to the people of Xu for not being strong enough to win without sacrifices. 

If Mi Shi & Liu Bei both reach Lu Bu and their sub-officers haven't been defeated, a cutscene will trigger. Mi Shi, Mi Zhu, & Mi Fang attack Lu Bu in unison but are swatted away easily and called insignificant insects. Mi Shi berates him for his lack of empathy and readies to charge again when Liu Bei steps in front of her. He urges her to calm down and vows the two of them will defeat Lu Bu, together.

• Rating - Mi Shi

“Finally, Xia Pi Castle has been reclaimed and the people of Xu are freed from Lu Bu's tyranny. Unfortunately, much was lost and sacrificed to achieve this victory. But there is no time to mourn.”

“I'm worried we haven't seen the end of this conflict now that Cao Cao has a foothold in the lands of Xu thanks to assisting us. I pray we'll be able to continue resisting his overwhelming might.”

Intermission: 

Just as I feared, Cao Cao attacked after we eliminated Lu Bu. Lord Liu Bei and the others tried to defend my homeland, but we were overwhelmed by his massive army and separated when we were forced to flee. 

After some time passed, my brothers and I discovered the whereabouts of Liu Bei and his allies then set out to find them. I chose to search for Lord Guan Yu, who had been forced to work for Cao Cao, and found him after he defeated Yuan Shao’s top generals at Guandu.

I know Liu Bei is no longer the ruler of Xu, but my brothers and I believe that he will be the man who will bring order to this chaotic land. A man as compassionate and kind as him will need our support to make sure he reaches his dream of peace restored.  

○ GUAN YU'S ESCAPE 

• Briefing - Guan Yu

“Lady Mi, I had not expected to see you again after we failed to protect your homeland from Cao Cao’s forces. Are you perhaps searching for my brother as well? If so, it would be an honor to have you accompany me on this journey.” 

“I believe Brother is waiting for us in the far away lands of He Fei. We have a long journey ahead of us, but first we must clear 5 gates that stand in our way - all the while defending the carriage carrying my brother’s wife. 

“It is difficult for me to abandon the friendships I have made with those in Cao Cao's army. However, both my and your place Lady Mi are by the side of Liu Bei. Let us go and bring him the strength he needs!”

• Battle:

Mi Shi is a sub-officer of the carriage. This stage plays out the same as normal but without the cutscenes between Guan Yu and Wei officers. Mi Shi does however have a unique conversation with Xiahou Dun about Cao Cao's conquest and the pain he inflicted on the people of Xu. 

• Rating - Liu Bei

“Lady Mi, you're here! I had heard from your brothers that you would be joining us soon, but I never expected you to arrive alongside Guan Yu and help protect my wife.” 

“I am truly honored to have you place so much faith in me and will strive to do everything in my power to make my dream of bringing peace to the land a reality. Now, let us continue our journey and rebuild our forces in Jing.”

Intermission: 

“After reuniting with Liu Bei, we enjoyed a few years of peace in Jing until Cao Cao came to pursue Liu Bei once again. That man… does Liu Bei’s kind spirit scare him that much? I'll never understand his heart.”

“In order to escape Cao Cao's grasp, Liu Bei acquired the services of the Sleeping Dragon, Zhuge Liang, and set out to forge an alliance with the Sun family in Wu. Keeping my promise to his mother, I accompanied Liu Bei’s army and remained by little Adou’s side throughout our journey.”

“Unfortunately, Cao Cao's army caught up to us and in the ensuing chaos, Adou and I were separated from our friends. Even if I have to give my life, I will make sure Liu Bei's son survives and reunites with his father!”

○ BATTLE OF CHANGBAN 

• Briefing - Zhao Yun

 

“Lady Mi! I have finally found you! We are deep within enemy territory and must hurry to reunite with Lord Liu Bei and deliver Adou to him.”

“Lord Liu Bei and the others are heading to Jiang Ling but must wait for Guan Yu to arrive with the ships needed to sail down the river and put some distance between us and Cao Cao's army. We must make it to him before they set off. 

“Lucky for us, Lord Zhang Fei is holding off a majority of Cao Cao's forces at Chang Ban Bridge, giving us the perfect distraction to skip past the enemy. Now, we must hurry before more enemy soldiers notice us. It would deeply sadden my Lord if we lost anyone while making our escape.”

• Battle:

Mi Shi starts off south of Zhao Yun near an enemy checkpoint. Before the battle even begins, a cutscene plays of her fending off soldiers until Zhao Yun swoops in on horseback to deal with the last few. Zhao Yun asks if she is alright, but Mi Shi immediately forces him to take Adou in his arms and urges him to take him to Liu Bei as quickly as possible. The cutscene ends but their conversation continues with Zhao Yun not wanting to leave her behind. Mi Shi reassures him that she'll be fine and that he can always come back for her after Adou reaches safety. Zhao Yun then proceeds past the Wei army to reach Liu Bei as quickly as possible. Not long after he leaves, Zhao Yun’s opening cutscene from the start of his story plays and raises Mi Shi’s morale as a result. 

As Mi Shi makes her way to Liu Bei's main force, the morale of each officer she passes by will increase. Zhang Fei, Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei, Zhao Yun, & Guan Yu all have a unique line for seeing her safe and alive after she was separated from them. After Zhao Yun reaches Liu Bei and delivers his son, he directs his attention to Mi Shi and makes his way to her, fighting by her side for the rest of the stage. 

• Rating - Liu Bei

 

“We managed to escape from Cao Cao’s army. This is due to the fact that everybody rushed their lives for me. I see that I am truly loved by my followers.”

“However, we must be careful to avoid such a situation again in the future. Cao Cao will not let us escape a second time. If only we had a land to call our own, we could fight back…”

Intermission: 

“Everyone managed to survive our journey to Wu and now we have the forces needed to finally stand up to Cao Cao and stop his tyrannical conquest. From what I know, the men of Wu are ferocious fighters and veterans at naval combat.”

“With them, Liu Bei now also has the services of the ‘Fledging Phoenix’, Pang Tong, an acquaintance of Zhuge Liang. He's said to be just as amazing as the Sleeping Dragon. I have no doubt with this much support, the combined might of Liu Bei & Sun Quan will be more than enough to destroy Cao Cao's fleet.”

“Hopefully after this battle, we can remain allies and use this moment to destroy Cao Cao completely.”

○ BATTLE OF CHIBI 

• Briefing - Pang Tong

 

“So it seems we're joining forces with Sun Quan at Chi Bi to attack Cao Cao to determine the fate of the land. This is a lot of pressure for my first battle under Liu Bei.”

“Zhuge Liang has instructed me to use a few tricks to impede the movement of Cao Cao's fleet until an opportunity to sink their fleet presents itself. In the meantime, I'll be relying on you to protect Zhuge Liang until preparations are complete.” 

“I know you're a woman of action Lady Mi, but patience will be the key to winning this battle. With my and Zhuge Liang’s strategies, victory is almost guaranteed - as long as we all do our part and follow the plan. Alright, let's get started.” 

• Battle:

Plays out identical to Pang Tong’s version of the stage but Mi Shi’s starting position is near Zhuge Liang. 

• Rating - Sun Quan

“The great river of Jiang Dong runs red with the blood of Cao Cao's fleet. Who could have predicted the results of this battle? They shall surely talk about the exploits of our fleet for generations to come.” 

“With this defeat, the strength of Cao Cao's army has surely been weakened. This is the chance we've been waiting for. We must put a stop to Cao Cao before he has time to regroup!”

Intermission: 

“Cao Cao's fleet sank to the bottom of the rivers of Jiang Dong and he was forced to run with his tail between his legs. Guan Yu was sent after him but because of his debt to Cao Cao from years ago, he allowed him to escape and live another day.”

“As much as I hate his choice, I'll trust in Guan Yu’s judgement and pray this doesn't come back to harm him in the future. As time passed, Liu Bei amassed a large amount of power and acquired the lands of Yi, Jing, and Hanzhong.”

“Eventually, Guan Yu was tasked with capturing Fan Castle to deal a crippling blow to Wei. However, our allies in Wu have betrayed us and are planning to stab us in the back. I may not be needed on the battlefield, but I must do everything I can to protect Liu Bei's brother as well as my own, Mi Fang, who's working alongside Guan Yu.”

○ BATTLE OF FAN CASTLE 

• Briefing - Zhuge Liang

 

“Now that the land has been divided into three, Jing is more strategically important than ever before. Control of Jing is essential for Master Liu Bei’s plan to unite the land.”

“Fearful of Guan Yu, Wei has formed an alliance with Wu. They have dispatched many capable officers such as Lu Meng & Lu Xun to Jing. If they join together to try and trap him…”

“Lady Mi, I am trusting you with watching Guan Yu’s rear and stopping Wu’s schemes. Without him and Jing, Liu Bei's dream will be impossible to realize.”

• Battle:

The stage plays out mostly the same as Guan Yu’s version of the battle, with the exception of Lu Xun’s plan to convince Shu’s rearline to defect. Due to Mi Shi's influence, Mi Fang refuses to defect and Fu Shi Ren remains hesitant to turn against his allies. There will be a small window of time that allows Mi Shi to prevent him from defecting too just by approaching and speaking to him. As the battle reaches it's end, Guan Yu remarks that their army has sustained too many losses, and it'll be impossible to hold Fan Castle against a counter-attack. As a result, their best option is to fall back and regroup in Shu. 

• Rating - Guan Ping

“We managed to fight off the combined attack of Wei and Wu but we were overwhelmed and were forced to retreat back to Shu. Thanks to you keeping our rear from falling into Wu’s hands, my father has survived this scheme. I'll forever be thankful, Lady Mi.”

“We may have lost Jing, but I cannot just sit here and be depressed. We must avenge this defeat and take back what Wu has stolen from us so we can destroy Wei once and for all.”

Intermission: 

“Guan Yu achieved a great victory at Fan Castle, but it was rendered meaningless by the betrayal of Wu. Like many others, Sun Quan saw Liu Bei's growth as a threat to his power and used underhand tactics to destroy us. He's no different from Cao Cao. And for that, he must be eliminated, too.”

“In order to bring an end to this conflict, Zhuge Liang has split our forces into two to deal with Wei & Wu at the same time. While he, Liu Bei & his brothers, Zhao Yun, and many others are dealing with Cao Cao in the north, Liu Chan is being entrusted with command in the battle against Sun Quan.”

“Adou has grown so much since Chang Ban and I'm excited to see him finally step into the role of a leader. I know his mother would be proud to see him now and I'll be sure to keep him safe no matter what Wu throws at us.”

○ BATTLE OF BAI DI CASTLE

• Briefing - Liu Chan

  

“Lady Mi! You're here! I never had the chance until now to thank you for saving my life when I was baby alongside Zhao Yun. If you're with me, I'm more confident I can make my father proud at this next battle.” 

“Since my father and his closest confidants are busy fighting Cao Cao at Wu Zhang Plains, they have left me in charge of defending Bai Di Castle from Wu’s attack. I've heard they're using everything they have to capture this place so they can attack Shu in my father's absence.”

“Thankfully, many talented men have been left at my side to make up for my lack of experience and skill on the battlefield. I believe that if we stay united, our land will be protected and soon we'll bring an end to the fighting.” 

• Battle:

This stage has a unique start when playing as Mi Shi. A cutscene between her & Liu Chan plays at the very beginning of the battle where she encourages him to be bolder and more confident when it comes to his desire to help Xing Cai. After it ends, he decides to not hole up inside the castle and joins the fight on the front lines alongside Xing Cai, boosting both of their morale. 

Aside from that, the battle plays out as it normally would with a few changes to dialogue, such as Mi Shi encouraging the Peasant soldiers.

• Rating - Liu Chan

 

“We were able to withstand the fierce onslaught of Wu and defend Bai Di Castle. We also managed to kill Sun Quan. I shall not forget this battle as long as I shall live.” 

“Before long, we shall be able to bring an end to the chaos that has plagued this land for so long. I only hope that Shu can bring them the peace they are so desperately looking for.” 

Ending Cutscene:

Mi Shi talks with Liu Chan after he finishes a training session with Xing Cai. They talk about Liu Bei going around the land helping people in need everywhere he goes while Liu Chan assumes control of Shu in his absence. He's unsure if he can live up to his father's greatness but is reminded that even if he's struggling, he's surrounded by people who care about him and will help whenever he asks. She then nudges him to ask Xing Cai for another training session and watches the two of them walk away.

You can probably tell which companion I was running around with in each outfit.

These crabs lasted longer than normal enemies...

Also, why the heck is Steam not giving me the Miraculous Bonds achievement after completing that battle /watching the cutscene twice?
