Navigating possible allergies for my baby

Hello! Neither my husband or I have any food allergies so this is all very new to us so any advice is welcome!

We have a 6 month old who has just started eating food and we have been slowly introducing allergens. So far:

-wheat- absolutely fine (tried with wheetabix and water)

-cows milk- given with wheetabix after clearing that allergen. She gagged when being fed and was sick. I don't think swallowed any but within about 1 min hives appeared around her mouth, neck and hands basically anywhere that came into contact with cows milk. This seemed to be the only obvious reaction. The hives faded within an hour. We phoned 111 who advised us to see her GP.

-egg- I gave half a Teaspoon of scrambled egg and she spat it out but again came up in hives around her mouth neck and hands that came into contact. Hives appeared within 1 min and again faded in 1 hour.

For background she also has eczema from around 4 months (as does her dad) and suffered quite badly with reflux as a newborn which gradually improved from around 4 months and basically gone around 5 months. She's exclusively breastfed. I eat dairy and eggs in my diet. I did go dairy free for a few weeks when she was around 6 weeks old to see if it would help her reflux but there was no change.

We saw her GP directly after the cows milk reaction and he said it sounds like cows milk protein allergy and referred us to a virtual group call with a paediatric dietitian and advised to avoid giving her any dairy but to carry on with dairy in my diet as normal.

We've yet to inform our GP about the egg reaction as this only happened 2 days ago and we were not able to make an appointment.

From research it looks like it could be IgE mediated responses to milk and egg, with possible non IgE components (with her eczema and previous reflux).

From researching online, most dietitian referrals seem to be for non IgE mediated reactions so I'm wondering if we should have also been referred to an allergy clinic?

I asked the doctor if there was a test that could confirm or rule out an allergy as I know contact dermatitis can be another possibility but he said she is too young for testing.

Were still working through trying other allergens but it has made me very fearful about trying!

Does anyone else have experience with these types of reactions?

New to this and overwhelmed!!!

Hi everyone. I'm looking for support and advice as I'm overwhelmed with all the information out here!

So for background, my baby had reflux since day 1 and would be described as a 'happy spitter'

After about 6 weeks of this, I did some research and came across CMPA. I raised it to my GP who said it was unlikely as my baby has never had any other symptoms e.g a rash, mucus in stools, discomfort e.t.c but I could try cutting dairy for 2 weeks to see if it reduced the spit ups. I gave up dairy for 3 weeks and there was no change to her spit ups, so then reintroduced dairy and there was no worsening or change.

Around 4 months she developed eczema (this runs in the family on my side and her dad has bad eczema so wasn't a big surprise). Around this time her reflux started to improve and by 5 months it was mostly gone.

Shes now 6 months and started solids. Upon trying cows milk and egg for the first times she had an immediate reaction to both and developed hives around her mouth, neck and hands where contact was made with the foods (we tested both allergens separately with a few days in between). The hives disappeared after about 1 hour. I haven't noted any gastrointestinal issues but her eczema possibly seems slightly worse but not massively so.

I went to the GP who I didn't find particularly helpful. He said to avoid giving her dairy and egg and he's referred me to a dietitian but doesn't know how long the wait list is. I'm ebf and asked if I should cut out dairy and egg to my diet and he said not unless the dietitian says so as the reflux is better and the eczema might not be related.

I asked about hydroallergenic formula as it was always my plan to introduce some formula from 6 months and he said he won't prescribe anything until after the dietitian appointment but I can buy some from a pharmacy. I spoke to the pharmacist who seemed equally clueless and told me to see my GP! I spoke to my health visitor who just said to keep breastfeeding and don't give her milk or egg.

So that's where I'm at- I still need to try other allergens with her as the only allergen she's 'passed' so far is wheat.

Does anyone have any advice? Should I be pushing for more help from my GP/ health visitor or is this standard procedure?

Advice about CMPA and formula

Hello! My baby is 6 months and we've been exclusively breastfeeding since birth. We started weaning and on first taste of cows milk she reacted in hives around her mouth, neck and hand.

I've seen the GP and I'm awaiting a dietitian appointment for CMPA. The GP advised in the meantime to avoid anything with cows milk for her but no need to to cut it out of my diet.

I mentioned to the GP whilst I want to continue breastfeeding I was planning on introducing a bottle of formula here and there to give me some independence. He said I can just look in the shops for a non cows milk formula and give that.

Speaking to a friend, she was surprised he didn't prescribe any formula as she said her daughter had prescription formula for cmpa

Should I go back to the gp to ask about this?

I also asked the gp if me eating dairy could be contributing to her eczema and he said it was unlikely but I'm not sure!
