70k miles on the clock.

It doesn’t do it all the time, but the ticking: metallic ticking sometimes goes on for a minute or so and then it’ll stop and the RPM needle will drop?

Oil is okay, due a service in a few months, only really used for short journeys.

Fallout 76 Should Be Thriving Right Now, Bethesda Fumbled the TV Show Hype.

Sorry if this post is a tad long but it was important to relay my thoughts.

Fallout 76 had the easiest layup in gaming after the success of the Fallout TV show and somehow still fumbled player retention.

The show exploded in popularity, Fallout games shot up the charts again, and 76 suddenly had something it’s never really had before: a huge wave of curious new players willing to give it another chance. Steam numbers spiked, Twitch viewership jumped, and people who swore off the game years ago were reinstalling it, yes this happened with the 1st season. But damn, they needed a long term plan, not a short term gain.

And what happened Bethesda?

A lot of those players bounced almost immediately.

Not because the core idea of 76 is bad anymore , honestly the game is WAY better than launch, but because Bethesda still hasn’t figured out how to keep momentum going once the initial excitement wears off.

Going from a new area to then Bigfoot that should have addition to a season, not the main attraction.. don’t get me started on infestation, a lazy reinvention hybrid of head hunts and the primary. Remember summer is supposed to be their usual big content drop.. probably won’t get anything Bigger till December.

Then there’s the seasonal model. Instead of major meaningful expansions that fundamentally evolve the game (new raid) it often feels like we get drip-fed cosmetics, CAMP items that are reskinned, or left over items from prior seasons.

Oh and the atom shop is an insult, bundling new items with old to increase bundle value, and force monetisation.

The TV show gave Fallout a cultural moment it hasn’t had in years. Bethesda got millions of eyes back on the franchise and probably the best chance they’ll ever have to make Fallout 76 a true long-term giant. Yes Season 3 is on the way, but are they going to do one good season, and then not?

Instead it feels like they treated the hype as temporary traffic instead of building a real retention strategy around it.

76 isn’t dead, and honestly I still enjoy parts of it, but it could have been SO much bigger after the show. Feels like another case of Bethesda relying too much on the Fallout name carrying itself.

Got an iPhone 14, looking to go to an android, I’m thinking a Pixel 10 pro. Anymore suggestions?

Lately I’ve been genuinely worried about the future of Fallout 76.

Lately I’ve been genuinely worried about the future of Fallout 76.

I’ve put so many hours into this game because, despite its rough launch, it became something special. The community is one of the most welcoming I’ve seen in gaming, the world still has that unique Fallout atmosphere, and there’s honestly nothing else quite like exploring Appalachia with, or without friends. My favourite fallout map by a mile.

But recently it feels harder to ignore the concerns. Content updates feel slower, communication can feel inconsistent, and there’s always that fear that support could eventually start winding down. A live service game only survives when players feel confident about its future, and right now I think a lot of longtime fans are uncertain. The unresolved bugs, the rewards getting slimmer by the months, feels like they’ve fumbled the extra players around the hype of the TV show.

What worries me most is that Fallout 76 finally found its identity years after launch. It went from being a game people mocked to one that actually built a loyal playerbase. It would be disappointing to see that momentum fade instead of being expanded on. There’s still so much potential for new storylines, map expansions, events, factions, and quality of life improvements.
Not a chance on events like the big foot appearing, or infestations that should be tacked on to a season… not becoming the main draw.

I’m not posting this to hate on the game, it’s the opposite. People usually only worry about something when they care about it. I just hope the developers continue investing in it and give the community reasons to believe the game has a strong long term future.

Anyone else feeling the same way lately?
