First-day pre-ordered the xTool O1, looks like October now

I was day-one on the O1 pre-order. Official announcement said end of August for the first batch, but I messaged support and got told ""after September"" for mine. Reading between the lines, that's basically October. I've got a stack of blanks and Etsy listings ready to go, just sitting on no printer. Would honestly kill for a real ETA at this point.

Finally stopped mixing up my tumbler at work

A couple of weeks ago I accidentally took someone else's white tumbler home from the office. We both bought the same one, and neither of us noticed until the next day. That was enough motivation to make mine look a little less generic.

I found a simple coastal illustration that reminded me of a beach trip last summer and put it on a plain stainless steel tumbler. Nothing too flashy, just something I'd actually want to use every day.

I printed it directly onto the tumbler with my eufyMake E1. What surprised me most wasn't the print quality, but the slight texture you can actually feel when you run your fingers over the artwork. It makes it feel more like part of the cup instead of something stuck on afterward.

Still exploring what else I can customize next. Maybe phone cases, keychains, or some desk accessories.

Summer market results

Did 3 markets in June and they were all completely different. First one I sold mostly tumblers. Second one it was all coasters. Third one almost nothing moved and I sat there for 6 hours. I print custom stuff on my eufymake E1 and I still can't figure out what determines whether a market day is good or bad..

We have solar panels and still pay $200/month for electricity

Got solar installed last year, 16 panels. Bill went from $280 to $200. I was expecting more of a difference honestly. I think the issue is that the panels produce during the day when we're at work and the house isn't using much, and then we come home in the evening and pull everything from the grid at peak rate. Our export credits under NEM 3.0 are almost nothing so the daytime production doesn't really help us.

Trying to figure out if adding a battery makes sense or if I'm just going to keep spending money trying to make the solar work the way I thought it would.

Figured out why our evening grid draw keeps spiking on certain days

I pulled my SCE hourly usage data because my June bill was higher than I expected. I use TOU rates with an Anker Solix E10 (2 battery packs) to shift most of my evening usage away from peak pricing, so I wanted to see what was happening.

Most days the setup works exactly as planned. Then I noticed the higher-cost days all had one thing in common: laundry.

The dryer itself isn't the issue. The problem is that on laundry days we're also running the AC, cooking dinner, and using the house normally. That combination uses a lot more energy during the evening peak window, so the two battery packs get depleted earlier than usual. Once they're empty, the house starts pulling expensive peak-rate power from the grid for the last hour or two before 9 p.m.

After looking at the numbers, I think my current setup is simply a little undersized for our actual evening consumption.

Now I'm debating what makes more financial sense:

Add a third battery pack so I have enough stored energy to cover those heavier evenings.

Install a few solar panels so I can generate free electricity during the day, run some household loads directly, and charge the E10 before the evening peak starts.

Either option should reduce my peak-rate grid usage, but I'm curious what others would do. If you've had to choose between more storage or adding solar first, which gave you the better return?

How do you guys keep fermentation temp stable during power outages

I'm fermenting a Belgian wit at 65F in my fermentation chamber (converted chest freezer with an Inkbird controller). We're getting into storm season and I've already had two outages this month.

The yeast is really sensitive to temp swings and a 10-15 degree jump would throw off all the flavors. A generator seems like overkill for a chest freezer that draws 80W.

What are other homebrewers doing?

I pump while grocery shopping now

I pumped through an entire Costco run last week and I don't think anyone noticed. Also did it at Winners and Chapters this month. I just put my eufy s2s on before I leave the house and do my session while I shop. I'm pretty sure the cashier at Costco heard something but she didn't say anything and I love her for that. Weara les surely are the best!

Does the new Anker SolarBank 4 actually work with Home Assistant natively

Running HA for two years now with Shelly plugs and a Tibber integration for dynamic pricing. Current battery storage is a no-name box that I control through a reverse engineered MQTT bridge that breaks every other firmware update. Looking at the SolarBank 4 as a replacement and the spec sheet says native Modbus TCP with documented registers. Sounds almost too good to be true for this market. Has anyone actually connected one to HA yet or seen a confirmed integration? Not interested in cloud workarounds, I want local control that survives vendor server outages

I’ve been lurking here for a while and following the humanoid space closely—both the Western focus on foundation models and what’s happening in China around hardware and sim2real.

One thing that keeps bugging me: most demos still feel like “high-end teleoperation” or very narrow policy learning. The robot walks, grasps, maybe dodges an obstacle—but there’s little evidence it understandswhat it’s doing.

Lately I’ve been reading more about world models as a way to move from reactive control to something closer to embodied intuition. The idea that a robot could run internal simulations—predicting physics, object behavior, and consequences before acting—feels like a necessary step toward general-purpose humanoids. Kind of how we don’t consciously calculate gravity every time we pick up a mug.

What’s interesting in the China ecosystem is that some teams are starting to pair strong hardware supply chains with edge-deployed models and real-world interaction data, rather than relying purely on simulation or cloud inference.

One example I’ve been casually tracking is Ace Robotics (Da Xiao). Not as an endorsement—just as a case study. They seem to be betting on bridging the sim2real gap via on-device compute and physical interaction data, rather than chasing benchmark scores in isolation. Whether that actually scales is an open question, but it feels like a different point on the solution space.
