Songs to play at senior homes?

I‘m in a club at my high school that plays music at senior homes, and am looking for recommendations. They‘d have to work for guitar and 1 or 2 singers. I’ve been working on my fingerstyle, so I’d also love any recommendations that have simple-ish chords and can be played with a fingerstyle pattern (but also doesn’t have to be fingerstyle - just an idea). Age range of the seniors is 75-85 ish. The senior homes that we play at are in or around the Upper East Side (of Manhattan). I usually play about 3 songs per concert, but there are a lot of concerts. All of the songs do have to be lyrically appropriate for a school concert, since the group is from my school.

Music that I’ve played before includes Can’t Help Falling In Love, Landslide, Don’t Think Twice, What A Wonderful World (Sam Cooke), and In My Life.

Here’s the list of songs that I’m thinking of playing (that I already know): Rhiannon; Angel From Montgomery; Teach Your Children (would find a 3rd singer); Blackbird; It Ain’t Me, Babe; Farewell, Angelina; Brown Eyed Girl; Graceland; Tennessee Waltz; Late For The Sky.

Here’s a list of songs that I’m thinking of learning: Georgia On My Mind; Doctor My Eyes; A Rainy Night In SoHo; Our House; All Things Must Pass; Dreams; Dream A Little Dream Of Me; The Weight (I’d find a 3rd singer); Starman; Changes; Stand By Me; Fire And Rain; You’ve Got A Friend; Ain’t No Mountain High Enough; Carolina In My Mind; Don‘t Worry About A Thing.

Also, weird question but do you think that it’s OK to play something more recent (my ideas were Oh My Sweet Carolina and Valerie) if they sound older than they are and I also play a song that they’ll all recognize? Let me know which of the songs that I’m thinking of seem best, and any other recommendations that you have. Thank you in advance for your help, and sorry for the very long post!

EDIT: Thank you so much to everyone who’s commented - these are some really helpful suggestions!

What’s the most thoughtful thing that anyone’s ever done for you or that you’ve ever witnessed?

My submission:

My grandmother used to give all of her grandkids pajamas every year for Christmas. I’m not biologically hers (she’s my mom’s dad’s brother’s ex), but one year she decided to get me pajamas which felt like her way of accepting me into her family as her granddaughter and so those gifts were always really meaningful to me. Since her Alzheimer’s has gotten worse, she never does it anymore. This past Christmas, she got me pajamas again and I was so happy because it felt like she was getting better and becoming herself again. It then became clear later on that she had definitely not gotten better, and my grandfather (her husband) told me that he’d gotten the present. I realized that he’d lied and let her pretend that she’d remembered so that she could feel like she was still caring for her family and, for me, like she was getting better.

Opinion on the song “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”?

Pretty self-explanatory. Is it pro-confederate, or simply empathetic towards someone caught up in a war?

Community service opportunities for High School student?

I’m entering 10th grade next year, and am looking for community service opportunities. There’s no set number of hours - we have to present on what we did at the end of the year. I’m particularly interested in opportunities volunteering with seniors, anything involving music (I sing and play guitar), tutoring (I could help the most with math, French, and English), any sort of soccer volunteering, or volunteering in a soup kitchen (I’m a nuisance at cooking but can help with serving/packaging food). it doesn’t have to align with any of these interests—this is just to give you a sense of what I enjoy. I live in northwest Brooklyn and go to school on the Upper East Side. I’ve looked into Dorot, The Clarke School, and ENGin, all of which interest me. Any ideas?

Good gluten free མོག་མོག wrapper recipes?

I‘m celiac, and my babysitter likes to make me gluten free མོག་མོག་. The wrappers always fall apart whenever we use flour and water (Bob’s Red Mill 1 to 1 flour), and changing the type of flour hasn’t helped. They break when we try to fold them, and they stick to the steamer no matter how much butter or oil we put on. Any tips for making gluten free མོག་མོག་?
