Hi everyone,

I’m a pre-medical student from Sindh (Karachi), preparing for the upcoming MCAT. I wanted some honest advice regarding a decision that’s been on my mind.

Academically, my scores are:

  • Matric: ~91%
  • HSSC Part 1: ~90%
  • Expected HSSC Part 2: ~91–92%

Based on this, I’m expecting a decent aggregate. From what I understand, scoring around 150–160 in MCAT could potentially secure me a government MBBS seat in Sindh.

However, here’s my dilemma:

I’m more inclined towards BDS.

My concern with MBBS is the longer pathway (MBBS + house job + specialization), which means I may only start earning independently in my early 30s. Given the current economic situation and saturation in the field, this worries me.

So my question is:

If I do get a government MBBS seat, would it be unwise to leave it and pursue BDS instead, considering my interests and long-term goals?

I’d really appreciate insights from people in the medical/dental field or anyone who has faced a similar decision.

Thanks in advance.
