Hi, are there any insurance companies that will do monthly premiums instead of the whole year up front?

I'm out of work & cannot afford a whole year, but I can afford to pay monthly. But I don't have a credit history because I don't owe any money to anyone, & I haven't had any debts or credit for many years.

I get Universal Credit. I've tried checking with my insurance but they won't do a credit check untill the day my renewal is due, & the people they use also won't do any checks until the same day. I don't want to be ringing around on the day trying to get insurance.

I got a 5k portable split which turned out to be under powered. Then I got a 7k single hose jobbie that also wasnt powerful enough. But the 2 at the same time are working lovely. It's usually 5°C warmer inside when it's like this. Today I have 37°C outside & 25°C inside.

Just bought a Brunner Polarys Twinair 5 Portable Air Conditioning Unit 5200 BTU £609 including delivery (today 2nd July 2026).

It's a portable split unit for a motorhome so wont trip a caravan park electric post.

I live on a narrowboat & I want to cool my living room which is 15ft long by 6ft wide by 6ft 6in high, so that unit should be enough (it can technically do my whole boat). I also want a low powered 1 so that if I'm out on the boat I can still use it by running the engine to generate electric, or in theory my 600W of solar should be able to run it. I'm guessing a bit of both (engine & solar) as it draws 560W of electric.

If the unit suits your needs it's worth looking for 1 because it seems a bunch of places just had a delivery in the last day or 2. I rang a few of the places & some still expected to get some in in the next few days by 8th July (others were saying December). The place I found 1 hadn't updated their website yet & it still said on back order, but they still had 1 left in stock which they only got 2 days ago, which I bought & they expect to get some more in the next few weeks but couldn't say when.
