Daikin aircon Hampshire - is it worth it?

A two room install, one 2.5kw and one 3.2kw, with condenser.

£5000

Is Daikin worth that for two rooms? That seems pretty pricey compared to haier at £3,700.

It seems a relatively 'normal' price, but I can't help but think some vendors price base on house size (and potential income) rather than costs and materials!

Is a 12000 BTU AC for a 500 square foot area enough?

Hey All. Everywhere I read it says that 12000 BTU should cover this space of mine, but I have people advising against it. PRACTICALLY, will it be enough?

I'm working to get the place insulated. 90% of the time it'll be two people in the space. The sun rises on the other side of the house meaning the rooms here aren't really taking a beating. Ceiling is about 9 feet.

What do y'all think?

Air conditioning fair quotes

Hi! Im looking for a rough FAIR cost for the following air conditioning. The 2 quotes I've had seem to be extremely expensive.

I want a ducted split system. One unit outside and one ducted unit inside (2way) that will duct into 2 rooms. The rooms are max 2m away from ducted unit and the outside unit would be around 8m away in terms of refrigerant tubes. What would a rough fair price in the UK be for this.

Thanks!

Quote help please

we’ve been quoted £5150.00 to supply and fit Mitsubishi units: one Multi Outdoor 7.1kW unit and three MHI SRKZS-WF indoor units, two at 2kw one 3.5kw. Is this a reasonable price?

we can also pay £90 per unit to change from white plastic to titanium. I’m an interiors obsessive 😂 and tbh am not thrilled about either option visually - has anyone got pics to help me decide? I’d like a nice antique bronze / brass options ideally 😂

Thanks so much for any help 🙏🏼

Air Con Condenser location

Hope some can advise especially if your home is the same, I'm just trying to work out the best place for the condenser on my end of terraced house for a air to air Aircon system to install in my front bedroom, but without annoying my neighbours especially as they have a small landing window in the alleyway with any noise or humming for The condenser. In the photo would the rough position in blue be ok (or a bit lower by the electric box on the wall) or would the alleyway amplify any noise & penetrate through their solid wall house to the bedroom or through the alleyway landing window? Or with new permitted rules that get rid of the 1m rule could it be placed under the front room window? Would I hear any vibration through the wall? Thanks. Where have you installed your or advice where to install, Thanks.

Is 5kw sufficient for my room?

Hi, I have recently had a quote for a 5kw unit, it was £1900 and I think this is reasonable and have used the company before. However I did a bit of due diligence and saw that this size is for rooms up to about 50m2 but this reduces when it is a sunny room. Our room we want it installed in is 37m2 and has velux windows and a bifold door so it is very sunny. A quick google tells me that in fact I would need a 6kw unit as 5kw goes up to 35m2 when in sunny room but for those who either know about this sort of thing (unlike me) or have experience in a similar scenario please can you advise before I go back to thr company thank you

No dual hose AC units sold in the UK - community help to push retailers

All the air conditioners that UK retailers offer are of type single hose, there are no dual hose AC units being sold, this creates negative pressure in the room. Hot air from outside can then get sucked in through gaps around doors, windows, etc.

A dual-hose system largely avoids that problem, so it can be more efficient for cooling a room, particularly in hot weather.

I have emailed customerservice@business.currys.co.uk in a effort to get them to start selling dual hose AC units, please can anyone who also wants better AC units to be sold in the UK email them?

If possible, please also request these other major retailers to start selling dual hose AC units (feel free to copy the message above :)) :

Currys

Argos

John Lewis

https://x.com/JohnLewisRetail?lang=en

Wickes

Hopefully if more people/customers ask them to start selling these then they should.

Portable Air Con for sale

VOX PMJ09C 9000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner nearly brand new.

Reposting as I had to delete one photo (thanks to whoever pointed that out)

Paid £780 from Appliances Direct and was delivered 2 weeks ago. I have invoice as proof.

I acted on a post here so bought it in a rush foolishly without thinking about whether or not it was suitable. Found that it’s not powerful enough for the room we wanted so am taking a loss and selling on. Will still be under usual manufacturer warranty and whatever Appliances Direct offer. Looking for £400 ONO.

Croydon, South London. COLLECT ONLY.

Any reliable air con options right now?

I’m looking for a small 9000 BTU air con (around 35x35x70) that is from a reliable brand and that can get delivered soon (Except Meaco). I’ve looked on amazon but most air cons will be delivered Sept/Oct

Air con quote review

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a quick sense check on an air conditioning quote.

It’s for three rooms:
• Main bedroom, 5.2m × 3.4m
• Home studio, 4.15m × 2.79m
• Open-plan kitchen/family/dining area, 8.2m × 5.94m

They’ve recommended a Daikin two-port multi-split system with two 2.5kW wall units for the bedroom and studio, plus a separate 7kW wall system for the large open-plan area. So that’s three indoor units and two outdoor units, all providing heating and cooling.

The quote is £5,000 with no VAT, plus approximately £750 + VAT for the electrical supplies, making it around £5,900 altogether.

They’re a Daikin D1 partner and will carry out a full survey before providing the final quotation. Does this sound reasonable for a premium Daikin system and installation in the UK?

Thanks!

Had the quote following my post a few days ago..

Following my earlier post (https://www.reddit.com/r/airconUK/comments/1voace9/have\_someone\_coming\_monday\_to\_do\_a\_quote/) , I've now had the first quote for air con at home and would appreciate people's thoughts.

House is 93m² over two floors. Unfortunately there's nowhere sensible for an upstairs unit on the landing, so it would need to go in the master bedroom.

Installer has recommended one multi-split system with:

  • 3.5kW unit in lounge
  • 2.5kW unit in master bedroom
  • Optional 2.5kW unit in second bedroom
  • Outdoor condenser mounted on brackets at the side of the house
  • Wi-Fi included
  • New distribution board/electrical supply included
  • All installation, materials, testing and commissioning included
  • External pipework in black trunking Prices:

Midea
2 indoor units: £4,375
3 indoor units: £5,495

Hitachi
2 indoor units: £4,580
3 indoor units: £5,871

No VAT on the above.

The Midea proposed is the Solstice range and the Hitachi literature supplied is for the airHome 400.

Thoughts on Midea Solstice vs Hitachi airHome? The three-unit Hitachi installation is only £376 more?

The bit I'm less keen on is the warranty: one year parts and labour followed by two years manufacturer's parts-only, conditional on regular maintenance.

I'm not planning to install until autumn/winter, so I'll be getting another couple of quotes as well.

(Yes, I used AI to prep this and remove any personal information about me or the installer)

Should I be concerned about neighbour's incoming AC units

House on the right is my Victorian end of terrace. I have no windows on the wall, but I do have my front door (where the lantern is on the wall). My bedroom window and dining room window is next to where I am standing on the back of my house. My neighbours on the left side are having external AC units attached to the wall near the red switch. Should I be concerned? It might not look nice, but that's not up to me... but will it be noisy? Anything else I should know? Are there planning regs around where these things can go, etc.? Thanks!

Weird System Behaviour - looking for thoughts (preferably from professionals)

Hi,

Had a Panasonic multi split fitted in October 2025. Outdoor unit is an 8kW 4 way, and 3 units inside (5/2.5/2kW respectively).

When it was first fitted, I raised that the outdoor unit was a bit noisy. I also calculated that the pipe run was 4m over the minimum, requiring 80g of additional R32.

The summer came and during the high heat at the end of June, the system shut down with an F91 error (low pressure). The system was diagnosed as low on R32 and 550g was added (engineer determined this based on the pressure read out.

After this, the system ran great all through July, barely pulling above 800w even when the temperature pushed into the low 30s.

On the 12/13/14th of August, when it was very hot, the system pulled a bit more - 1-2kW throughout the day, which was expected. It kept the house cool.

My concern comes from the behaviour AFTER. From the 15th onwards, the system is now incredibly over-reactive. It turn on my PC and play some games (up to 800w load in the 5kW room), the outdoor unit ramps up to over 1kW. Lower the set point in the bedroom (2.5kW unit) by 1c, system ramps up to 1kW for an hour.
It also feels like it's prioritising either the 2 smaller units OR the bigger unit. Until recently it was happily balancing all 3.

Is it likely that there's a leak / lack of refrigerant again or is this something else? I did read somewhere that the very hot weather can cause the system to adapt its behaviour, which may explain the spiking, but I don't feel like it explains the unbalanced cooling.

Are we allowed to sell our air cons here?

I couldn’t see anything in the guidelines, but thought I would check before posting anything. Don’t want to break any rules.

Domestic ceiling cassette

I’ve had a quote from someone who suggests best option for my home is to have ceiling cassettes rather than wall units. The upstairs is all the upper floor of the house so there is no loft, so there isn’t really anyway to have wall units. Can anyone see any disadvantages of this? Obviously they are large, 600mm square, even the description on Mitsubishi website suggests they are great for all commercial applications. Does anyone else have this? Any regrets? Thanks

Very loud noise from Bush 9k when cooling and throwing P1 errors - what's causing this?

Bought this 2nd hand as 'refurbished' so was expecting it to be a little louder than normal, but it's so loud I basically can't run it. It's only when it's cooling (i.e. fan mode makes no noise) so it's only when the compressor kicks in. It also vibrates pretty intensely.

When it's in cooling mode the water tray also fills very quickly and it gets a P1 every time it runs. It is obviously resolved with a drainage hose but doesn't feel like there's any evaporation happening and it's not a great solution just feeding it into a bucket.

Any thoughts? Given it's 2nd hand I'm happy to have a go at simple fixes if they exist!
