Are UMPI classes more like Sophia or Study? (In terms of difficulty and time involved.)

Working on getting transfer credits through both Sophia Learning and Study.com and finding there's a big difference between the two platforms and the amount of time it takes to get through a class. I think it's partly because Study seems to have a lot more information in each course, with more chapters, more tests, and sometimes more (or longer) papers. I can fly through a Sophia course in a day (assuming no touchstones), but I haven't come across any Study classes I could do that with.

So, for those who have taken classes at both Study and Sophia, and are now at UMPI, are the UMPI classes more like one or the other? Somewhere in between? Harder/more time consuming than either one? I'm trying to gauge how fast I'll be able to move through classes once I get started (for reference, I've done 40 credits in 34 days as of this morning, all on Sophia, with three classes in progress on Study).

Undergrad counting toward masters classes?

I'm currently working through all of my gen ed classes and possible transfer credits before enrolling at UMPI, but my plan is to do a BLS and then the Masters in American Studies. There are two 400-level history classes that appear to be the same as two of the 500-level classes for the Masters (identical course titles and descriptions). If I take them as an undergrad (they'd count toward one of my minors), will I need to retake them in the Masters program? And if not, does that mean I'll just have two fewer classes to take or will I need to take two other classes to make up the credits?

Is there any way to do the Humanities minor with YourPace?

I'm leaning toward doing the BLS with minors in Social Studies and History, but was also looking at the Humanities minor. It doesn't look like there's any way to actually complete the Humanities minor with YourPace, though. The requirements are:

>Courses in at least three Humanities areas with a minimum of nine upper level credits in two areas. Areas include Art, English, Foreign Language, or Philosophy.

It's the nine upper level credits in two areas part that seems impossible. There's only one 300-level art class and it has pre-requisites that aren't offered online (and Study and Sophia don't have any at that level). There are no 300-level philosophy courses from Study or Sophia and none in YourPace (at least not in the current catalog). There are no 300-level foreign language classes offered online. So the only upper-level credits available are in English, but that doesn't satisfy the "two areas" part.

Am I missing something or is this one just not possible without getting at least a few credits through a more "traditional" institution?

What are your favorite solo date ideas?

I realized tonight after reading yet another social media post about some sweet/thoughtful/interesting date someone was taken on that the only really good dates I've had were ones I took myself on. (Side note: I definitely feel some envy when I read those posts but at the same time I'm also glad to know that those kinds of guys still exist in the world, even if I never seem to encounter them!)

I've honestly not been on that many dates since I got divorced almost 15 years ago (a few first dates from when I did OLD, a few dates with guys I was already sleeping with, but almost all of them fall under the lunch/dinner/movies/etc. standard date format). Haven't been on any dates at all in almost 9 years.

But I do take myself on solo dates semi-regularly. I got out of the habit in the last year (thanks, depression) and want to get back into it. I'd love some new ideas!

So what are your favorite solo date ideas? Or favorite solo dates you've taken yourself on?

A little over a month ago I posted about how after my first dose of compounded tirzepatide (after 6ish months on sema), my mood immediately improved.

I'm on week six now and my life has completely changed. I've only lost about five pounds (33.1 pounds overall, but it's picked up in the past two weeks since I increased my dose), but everything else has changed.

  • My mood is still awesome. Like, I'm dealing with huge stressors that would normally have me super depressed, and I can just deal with them. I still get stressed/sad/etc. but it doesn't consume my days.
  • My brain fog is GONE. I just re-enrolled in college classes and have been powering through them (using an online education platform to knock out the gen ed credits I need before transferring, and I've literally done 21 credits in 11 days, including writing almost a dozen papers, and that's after being out of school for 25 years).
  • I have way more energy. This might also be because spring is finally here, but either way, I haven't felt this energetic in probably a year.
  • I feel like my old self. More confident, more easygoing, happier, more whimsical, etc. Like the person I was before the pandemic!

I've also had pretty much no side effects. A little nausea here and there, a little bloating occasionally, and some mild headaches (that may just be my allergies, though).

I know people have varying experiences on different GLP-1s, but I was really afraid tirz would cause anhedonia for me, to the point I almost didn't want to try it (I have a bit of a history with anhedonia). Instead, it's basically done the opposite! And I wanted to share my experience here to encourage others.

I'm trying to figure out how the course requirements work for minors.

Say, for instance, I want to do a minor in Sociology. I'm already taking Intro to Sociology through Sophia as part of the Gen Ed requirements (5A), but it's also a requirement for the minor. Does that mean I need to find a different course to fulfill the 5A requirement (like Approach to Studying Religion)? Or can I use the same course for both?

Or lets say I'm doing a History and Political Science major with a concentration in Political Science, and want to add a Humanities minor. The poli sci concentration already requires 6 credits of a foreign language, could I use those same 6 credits toward the minor?

And can something count as both an elective and toward a minor? Or if I wanted to do two minors, can electives or degree requirements or whatever count toward the second minor if not the first?
