Just got a 3D printer; I knew what I had to print first

Doot!

(Sadly, one of his shoulder mounted rocket launchers broke, and I didn't want to bother re-printing it)

I was scammed $500 by an AI artist.

So about 3 months ago I posted here looking for an artist on my game. A person identifying themselves as Mia Davis (coffeefoxx1 on Reddit; _mia_davis on Discord) reached out to me. Their profile looked good, we had a good conversation, and I was very upfront (multiple times) about not wanting any AI involved.

As I was wanting to do the whole project, I gave $500 upfront - half the cost. This was something I've done several times w/ other legitimate artists and never had a problem before as that was pretty standard.

Anyway, a month later, they finally got back to me, and presented me with this slop:

https://preview.redd.it/fvavpclqu1hh1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3fd5e13df9f2d54ab83626de8c5cbc33db77294

As soon as I saw it I knew this was AI. Lots of layering line errors and other stuff no person would've made. The "artist" denied the allegation and even offered "proof" that it was legit via a PDF file (something else we had agreed upon prior to the contract). But instead of exoneration, the PSD they provided proved it to me beyond a doubt:

  • All the work was done in a single layer
  • PSD was suspiciously completely scrubbed of all meta data
  • Another disabled layer has the entire artwork again, in a completely different style, and is titled "comvert_into_2d_anime_style_202606122128". You know, just like a prompt would spit back.

I confronted the scammer again, and of course they denied it and refused to give me a refund. So then I opened a fraud complaint with PayPal. After another month of waiting, PayPal denied my case and let the scammer keep my $500.

So now I'm out $500, have nothing usable, and don't really have any money left to hire another one.

Life goal achieved: my son beat me at my own game!

Finally did the first real multiplayer
playtest for my game (ignore horrible temp art) and it was a success! To my surprise, my son actually beat me at it! Such an awesome feeling, especially since my kids are who inspired me to make the sequel (with multiplayer) to begin with.

LTTP has always been my favorite Zelda game, ever since I first played it when it was released on SNES. Even my beloved Wind Waker was second place in my heart next to LTTP. I fucking LOVE LTTP.

I never had a 3DS though, and I had just had kids when ALBW came out (so I was kinda busy), so that one just fell off my radar. I picked it up a few weeks ago, and man, it's completely amazing! I love how the overworlds were almost the same, but was glad to see dungeons were different. My only complaint really is that I wish Lorule had a different art style than LTTP's Dark World, since they are two separate places. Also, being able to just flat out buy almost all the upgrades from Ravio felt pretty stupid, because I picked up everything except the fire and ice rods before I even fought Agahnim. I mean Yuga.
