Help Identifying various pieces

I picked up a wood lot from an auction today, I’m getting into wood working more and I figured why not. It was $400 for the whole lot and I’ve got maybe 20+ 8 ft boards of various species and smaller boards of what seems like black walnut, yellow pine, oak and some ebony blanks, ash blanks, but if anyone can help identify and species in these (not super detailed) photos I’d be very appreciative. Still trying to learn

Flea Market Finds! Insight welcome

I went to a Flea market yesterday in eastern PA and all of the planes came from a guy who saw me looking at a singular plane and he really was wanting to not bring them back with him. He offered me $25 dollars and it ended up being multiple Stanley Bailey planes and some tongue and groove planes as well (I think). The others are a Pfiel gouge I got for 50 cents and some other estranged tools. I’m not 100% sure on what they all are so any suggestions of insight is welcome. Super grateful though.

Help Identifying Please

I just picked this up at a thrift store for $8.99 and I was wondering if anyone can help properly identify the maker and other details. I know nothing about this sort of thing so I am hoping to know at least a bit more. It is missing a fair bit of mechanical parts as well but does include primary gears and mechanics.

Unfortunate series of events or possible opportunities for progress?

I stopped by an Ace Hardware today and picked up a Collin’s double bit axe with a hickory handle. With tax and all it was about $43.00. I got it home and removed the coating on the handle and went straight away to a light burn to bring out the grain and made a fatal mistake, I cracked that shit in like 4 places. I’m new to woodworking in general BUT the reason I got the axe was to get timber for bow making. Anyways I’m curious which route I should go, do I need a new handle 100% right away or should I send it and hope for the best? Also further questions and I’m definitely open to all answers, comments and criticisms.

  1. How to burn handle without cracking?
  2. Where do I get a quality hickory or ash handle?
Thank you all for your time!

Possible Sword Models? Urgent Help Identifying

Context: This is a photograph of my great-uncle in the Austro-Hungarian military during WWI. He was from southern Hungary and his paternal family was former Hussars. I’m not sure what his military regiment is nor do I know his ranking sadly. I would like to know about his sword if anyone has ideas, please & thank you!

Dad gifted me tools to start becoming a bowyer!

In summary I had spoke with my dad, an avid tool collector that I had an interest in being a bowyer. I have done archery for years now and I want to get into bow making, minor furniture making and general wood working here and there. My main point is that I had told my dad about my new found interest and he was super stoked and over the span of a day proceeded to gather all his wood-working tools and just give them to me? He said it’s because he really has no interest in wood working but I think that a lot of it is him being a generous person. Now that being said some caveats are that many if not all of the gifted tools are acquired from estate sales, thrift store, flea markets etc. They all need cleaned, re-oiled if required and definitely blades re sharpened. I’m very grateful for all of it most definitely and eager to get these cleaned and start the hobby of bow making very soon.

Good or Bad? Ashwood for projects

I’ve got two blank pieces of white ash they are both 1-1/2” x 1-1/2” x 42. I’ve included photos of both blanks as well as labeled images. My goal is to make one a composite bow core and the other a Fokos (another separate project). I’m fairly new to really anything woodworking so any advice or suggestions are welcome. My general questions are:

  1. Are these blanks good?
  2. Which is best for which project?
  3. Where to buy quality sourced wood for future projects? (preferably online).

Can anyone give more details about traditional clothing?

These are images of my great grandfathers, aunts, uncles etc. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the clothing and flag in the photograph with the horses as well as the military uniform in the second image. They lived in Vojvodina as Hungarians post & pre-Trianon. Thank you all help wanted
