All done! Fluffing and crinkling and cozying up in the dryer now. :) I had so much fun using the good fabric whilst constructing yet another Carrie Nelson pattern. She is the GOAT, IMO. I didn't expect it to take so long to bind it with the blanket stitch, but it did, BUT it's cute and I had some downtime after my flu and covid shots to cramp my paws up with stitching. Instead of straight-line cross-hatching, I did repeating lines out from a cross in the center, with a repeating pattern of ten or eleven different colors and weights of top thread, purely to satisfy my own autistic delight for setting a rule and adhering to it. This was my first time using bamboo/cotton/silk blend batting and it felt great- Im hyped to see how it feels and drapes after it's dried.

Lordy. I very much enjoy quilting and it's all I ever really want to do.

I had asked for opinions on my fabric pull for this a while ago. Probably got an equal number of yeas and nays, so I went with my gut. I am so psyched on how this is coming together. Piecing up the rows now, then it gets a couple of borders. Updates as they come! Pattern is "raise the roof" by the g.o.a.t. Carrie Nelson.

Spent all day at a few conservation properties where I work in southwest PA spraying knotweed. :) Bonus gigantic dead ailanthus in this shot, which I annihilated last year. By this time next year, this little area will be ready for replanting!

My partner and I took a trip to Chatauqua Institution in NY yesterday to see an incredible performance of Carmina Burana. The whole thing was expertly orchestrated by the darlings at wqed fm; the bus ride to and from, breakfast and lunch, and keeping the cats herded. I couldn't believe how well organized and delightful the whole experience was. And I got to meet Jim Cunningham! I love him! If any of you have heard the promos for the Chatauqua trips on wqed, it is more than worth every penny of the donation fee. My partner and I seemed to be the youngest guests (we are 40), but the entire day seemed dreamy as heck for people of any age. The setting is ✨amazing✨, the bus driver is a champion, the food and drinks were excellent, and the music was unbelievable. I love yinz, wqed!

Just laid out my latest project (no room for a design wall). I'm really hyped about this one. It's a lot of 30's/40's/feedback style fabrics. I taught myself a bit of embroidery and made applique pills and embroidered them. They're all common brands of ADHD, weight loss, sleep disorder, depression, antipsychotic, beta blocker, and anxiety medications. Forty different pills, all researched so I could match the colors and designs. Yes, one of them is a triangle which seems like a literal tough pill to swallow! I am obsessed with quilting so I worried about going down a distracting rabbit hole with embroidery, but I loved learning some basic stitches and I had a ton of fun. I'll post an update when it's pieced and quilted. :)

Pulling fabric for my next project and I am a bit stuck. First image is the pattern example. Second image is the fabrics I'm planning to use for all of the 'light'. So should I go with solids or stripes for the 'dark'? Or a combination?

It made me so happy to see the parkway goblin posted on here the other day and I love seeing other people share the graffiti they've seen that struck them in one way or another. I did some paint shenanigans when I was half my age but wasn't brave or talented enough to keep at it. Anyway I want to share this treasured piece and tell you about it and I hope you'll share too! I used to clean up the trash and shovel the snow on the 40th Street bridge and one day I found this laying on the bridge sidewalk. In 2017. Not 2019. It felt like a message from a time-traveling alien spaceship fell from space and landed on 'my' bridge. I love it, it's a mantra. Any time I see one of these phrases painted somewhere it feels sort of personal? And nice. I know that the person who made this passed away, and I'm pretty sure it was a sudden and traumatic situation. It just feels like a very special artifact to have.

There's locally 'famous' graffiti 'artists' that peeve me, cutie goblins that make me happy and also make me hope their creator is a good person. I get mad when kids paint on trees or mossy stones when there's plenty of bridges or banks to paint. I get hyped when I'm traveling and see a familiar doodle.

Panic washing! Sullivans basting spray has left big blotches of yellow dye showing through all over my backing fabric. Why on earth would a product like this exist?? Started by doing my usual Quilters Rule quilt soap, then moved to Tide, then found some Dawn that previous tenant had left in a cabinet. The yellow isn't going away. I'm furious.

I've just finished piecing the rows for a queen size hexi quilt. This photo is just the extra pieces that I'll be using for a matching pillow. I'm not a confident FMQ-er on large quilts, just baby quilts and QAYG. How would you quilt this design with a walking foot? For some reason I can't visualize what could work well without detracting from the lovely fabric or the 30° piecing.
