I’m a beginner runner. I usually run 5K in the morning.
Recently it has been very hot and humid. The morning temperature is already around 26°C / 79°F, and it feels like a sauna.
Is it still safe to run 5K? I’m worried about overheating or heatstroke.
Should I slow down or run less?
Thanks for any advice!
Just got back from Guizhou! If you want to escape the summer heat, July and August here are amazing. Aside from some rain, it’s not hot at all.
The water volume at Huangguoshu Waterfall is massive right now, and it looks incredible. Two quick tips if you go:
Go early or late: Hit the tracks first thing in the morning or later in the evening to beat the crazy midday crowds.
Buy the VIP ticket: Seriously, it’s worth it. You get to skip the massive lines for the shuttle buses between spots, which saves so much energy.
I really wish I had more time there and would love to go back!
I’m 46 and I’ve been running consistently for about 3 years. My current routine is running 5 km every other day, usually at around 7:30 min/km.
The pace feels fairly comfortable, but my average heart rate is often around 150 bpm, and it hasn’t changed much over time.
I’m mainly interested in training-related suggestions from people who have worked on building their aerobic base or lowering heart rate during easy runs.
A few questions:
I mainly run for health, consistency, and general fitness, not racing. I’d love to hear what training approaches worked for you.
I'm planning a family trip to Yunnan this July and will be traveling with my 76-year-old parent. We're considering visiting Lijiang, but I'm a bit concerned about the altitude.
From what I've read, Lijiang is around 2,400 meters above sea level. For those who have visited Lijiang with elderly family members, did they experience any altitude-related symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, headaches, or fatigue?
Would it be safer to spend a day or two in Kunming first to acclimatize before heading to Lijiang? Are there any precautions we should take?
