Indiana Peony Festival 2026

A year ago, we came to the peony festival as a brand new couple. This weekend, we came back and revisited so many little places that became part of our story, including the including the exact spot where he asked me to be his girlfriend 🥹

One year later, still hand in hand and carrying at least 5 bouquets 💐🥰 Count me thankful for peonies and memories 🤗

Why Are My Buds So Browned on the Edges? Due to Early Heatwave or Something to be Concerned About?

This year seems particularly bad for it, with nearly all my buds looking like this to various extents. We did have pretty mild temps with a sudden 88° heatwave dropping back to mild earlier in April, but curious if this is something more than just heat stress as they've been on automatic watering since very early on.

Last set of photos and one question.

At what point should I trim these blooms away? Once the petals begin to fall off?

I haven’t bought any inside for a vase because I have a cat that eats plants and flowers! 😾

Variety: Danse du Feu Itoh

Courage

I planted the courage root fall ‘24. I purchased it right after opening my llc; a nod to that step in life. It’s been a pain staking process navigating insurance companies. So many hick ups, barriers, tears, and to the point where I was about to throw in the towel in March. Owed thousands (10k+) of dollars, in addition to having lost out of 6 months of pay by being fucked over by another company. I love what I do. But I was just so fucking done. I didn’t get any blooms from courage last spring ‘25 . I got two this year; two weeks after finally starting to get paid out from Medicaid, paid about 2k at first, and almost two year into this whole trying to be a business owner endeavor. I know it seems silly; but it all just felt very aligned for me. I’m a therapist. I specialize in trauma and grief. My work is so heavy. Flowers, to me, are the happiest thing in the world. My garden is my safe and creative space. I can nurture and see change. No words, no brain power, no massive emotional labor. Peonies are my favorite. I just wanted to share my story. Also- featuring: golly, touch of class, and pietertje vriend wagenaar and one of my delphiniums.

One of my favorite peonies! Coming from Van Wert, Ohio. (At one-time the self proclaimed Peony Capital of the World!)

First Bloom Ever From My Coral Charm 🩷🧡

My first peony bloom of the season on a Coral Charm I planted last year. Happy peony season!

Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how to fix!

I don't see any fungus/fuzzy stuff so hopefully it's not blight!

Planting depth

Does this planting depth look okay? This is the depth it was in the pot from the garden centre but it feels off to me. Maybe too shallow?

This is my first time planting a peony. It is coral sunset.

Could anyone ID these?

These are from the peony that has been on the property since we bought the house almost 9 years ago, the house was about 13 years old or so when we purchased it. I tried to Google lens and looked at tons of photos but I am unsure. I would love to find another to purchase and plant on another part of my property. (Northeast Indiana zone 6A)

Peony bloom petal drop from the heat? Or animal damage?

Hi folks, new peony grower here! This morning I was shocked to see the 3 oldest of the four blooms on my peony had dropped most of their petals. Does this look like normal petal drop, or animal damage? They only opened up 3 days ago, so it seems awfully fast for the blooms to be finished, but we’ve also been having a few days in the mid 90s F, so I’m guessing the heat knocked them out? Or is this normal? This is my first year with blooms, and would have loved them to hang around longer, but so happy I got them while I did! Also attaching a pic of the bloom in its glory. Thanks for any insight!
