How difficult is this game

I played and thoroughly enjoyed 1-3 . I keep hearing how difficult x definitive is.
So as someone who really enjoyed the trilogy and had no problems because I did all side quests as I went along in the game. Really how difficult is x? Is it as rough as I read online?
